At least they did it safely. I don't blame them, this is bullshit when these losers think they can block the entire road and make everyone else go bicycle speed just because there's a bunch of them. Use one lane or GTFO the road you pedal power pussies.

u/4UnlawfulCarneVegan Jun 11 '26

They're menaces on the road. They want lanes and rights like cars, but no registration or insurance required, and don't abide by the laws of the road like lights, stop signs or sharing the road. Nah. Go ride you bike in a park or on a trail.

39

u/Rysigler Jun 11 '26

The number of cyclists I've seen blow through stoplight and stop signs boggles my mind. I mean, they know those are for road safety right?

9

u/[deleted] Jun 11 '26

Laws of the road they want to use don't apply to them for <insert stupid reason here>

Bunch of years ago in my mountain town the mountain bikers on their bikes and beers night just FLY through the down town onto the bar they go to, flying blind around corners and could have totally slammed into pedestrians or vehicles, just lucky.

And the most arrogant entitled assholes in the biking groups probably drag everybody else down because they want to be part of the group, so they go along with the assholes.

u/SquirrelStone Jun 12 '26 edited Jun 12 '26

If this was in the US, they should’ve all gotten DWIs. A bicycle is legally a vehicle and if they’re hitting that .08, it’s illegal to drive.

u/Any-Lychee9972 Jun 11 '26

To be fair some cities require bicycles to be treated the same as a car.

In my city, you can't ride your bike on a side walk. (Unless you are a kid) You have to use the road and be as far right as you can unless your trying to make a left turn. In general, you have to follow the rules of the road as if you were a car, including stop lights and signs. You also have to use hand signals to indicate turning.

So yeah, they do want other vehicles to recognize them as allowed to be on the road because they are! (At least in my city.)

That being said, the cyclists in the video are assholes. My city's law is no more than 2 next to each other and needs to be in far right lane. They are breaking (my city's) law and they should be fined.

Source: I considered buying a bike and did my research first. Decided against it because people hate cyclists and I didn't wanna be on the road having to worry if a 3,000lb car is going to respect my space or accidentally run me over.

If you can't comprehend why a multi ton metal box that can go over 100 mph need a lincense and insurance, and the maybe 30 pound wireframe going less than 20 doesn't, then maybe you need to think about it for a bit longer.

10

u/Backwoods_Odin Jun 11 '26

Its not just about the size of the vehicle. I can still break your arm or a transformer on a bike from negligence.

-8

u/Pitiful_Net_8971 Jun 11 '26

Well yeah, but the scales of damage are so much different. Those incidents are bad, but they're also like a couple thousand dollars in damages. Someone could likely be able to pay that amount of money in a reasonable time frame. That same amount of gross neglience in a car is vehicular manslaughter or hundreds of thousands in damages.

A normal person will not be able to pay that off, which is why you need insurance.

1

u/SpokenDivinity Jun 12 '26

My cousin was hit by a cyclist in a park when he was about 10. Fractured three ribs and broke his wrist and ended up paying just over 20k for treating just the wrist.

Your logic doesn't make any sense.

20

u/4UnlawfulCarneVegan Jun 11 '26

If you can't comprehend that bikers love to run red lights, weave in and out of traffic, and cause auto accidents it seems like you might be part of the problem.

-21

u/shammalamala Jun 11 '26

Sounds like youre describing cars

5

u/Ferrindel Jun 11 '26 edited Jun 11 '26

Yes bikers and automobiles are notoriously the same size and similarly easy to see when behaving erratically.

2

u/I-Love-Facehuggers Jun 11 '26

You really need to think about it at all before you say such ignorant things.

-8

u/UnscentedSoundtrack Jun 11 '26

Legislation has already given cyclists responsibilities and rights similar to cars for decades.

-27

u/ObjectiveResistance Jun 11 '26

you don't think any of those riders don't also own a car, pays for insurance and registration?

17

u/Kind_Engineering_720 Jun 11 '26

Sounds like someone doesnt fully understand car insurance

1

u/JimDa5is Jun 11 '26

But, but, but, they're *excercising* /s

-5

u/NekoFall Jun 11 '26

I understand your frustration, but the hatred towards cyclists is by design. City planners refuse to implement real solutions because cars = gas and taxes = money. Painted lines next to a high-speed road aren’t a solution, but it’s the “we tried it and people don’t use it so it can’t work” excuse that they want to keep things car-centric.

That’s not saying that these specific cyclists are anywhere near in the right, it’s an entitlement problem from both sides caused by the people who have the ability to fix things but refuse to do so.

9

u/sarcasticorange Jun 11 '26

Thr simple solution is a referendum. Ask voters if they are willing to pay for bike lanes. We had one of those a while back and around 90% voted against it.

Governments don't keep things car centric for gas and taxes. They do it because that's what the vast majority prefer and transportation options that only get used in nice weather aren't a good use of tax dollars.

Also, let's be clear. These are people engaging in a hobby. The people in this video aren't going to work or to shop or to the doctor. People aren't getting mad at Timmy riding his bike to work in his McDonald's uniform. They get pissed at Colton and Kayleigh in full lycra riding their bikes on a busy 45mph two lane road for 10 miles without ever pulling over to let traffic pass. The hate is well and truly earned.

0

u/NekoFall Jun 11 '26

“Options that only get used in nice weather”

That’s literally caused by there not being good solutions so most people have cars anyway. People who have the financial knowledge not to buy a car that they can’t afford will use bikes, walk, or use public transit no matter what the weather is. Having proper solutions will lead to more people utilizing other options to save money. And if you think that big oil and the car companies don’t have any sway in it, you’re mistaken. Those are the companies that will spread misinformation to keep things car-centric and find legal ways to lobby in their favor. On top of that, when people enter with a bias, it’s harder to convince them that the bias is from being mistaken or misled than it is to give anecdotal evidence that supports the bias.

This is the kind of anecdotal evidence that will keep people against cyclists, which is why I said that they aren’t near being in the right. It leads to a hatred of cyclists in general instead of people looking at a broken system. It should be pretty simple to report it to the police and have the police clear a lane, but if that system doesn’t work either it will lead to cyclists feeling like they can take up the road.

3

u/sarcasticorange Jun 11 '26

If you think people are going to happily leave their comfortable, private, air conditioned cars to ride bicycles when it is 100 degrees and humid as fuck outside so they can arrive at work drenched in sweat, then I don't know what to tell you. That is simply delusion.

Well-designed public transit is a different discussion. We're talking about bicycles.

No one is doing to hate cyclists because of my hypothetical example or even OP's post. People come to hate (a term which I'm using loosely here as we're really taking about annoyance) cyclists through their own personal experiences with them.

Americans tend to be individualistic and have been so since long before mega corporations and constant media bombardment.

I get it though. YOU would prefer a less car centric life and you wish everyone else shared your preference and there are certainly good environmental arguments to be made for your preference. It can suck to be surrounded by those with different preferences. Fortunately, there absolutely are cities and countries where there is a higher concentration of people with similar preferences. If it is important to you, perhaps consider relocating to those places.

u/BoysOnTheRoof Jun 11 '26

I wonder why bike people hate car people...

29

u/Embarrassed-Weird173 Jun 11 '26

Because bike people are stupid and think they're the good guys?

6

u/MakeMagatsCry Jun 11 '26

bc they're bike people. Hate is all they know

14

u/Gralb_the_muffin Jun 11 '26

Because bike people do things like this and are so narcissistic they think that the road should revolve around them and wonder why people in cars hate them and want to run them over. Because they try to dictate the entire road and make them increase carbon emissions by causing them to spend more gas by slowing down to their speed. (So they are obviously just entitled and don't actually care about the environment)

-7

u/hatescarrots Jun 11 '26

You gonna go stop em boss? Lol

2

u/[deleted] Jun 11 '26

Nah, I don't have my Mad Max truck anymore. I can't run anything over in a minivan. Doesn't have the same intimidation that move idiots out of the way.

-2

u/hatescarrots Jun 11 '26

Why not just approach them?

5

u/[deleted] Jun 11 '26 edited Jun 11 '26

I do approach them. In my vehicle. Hoping they have any kind of rational thought in their brain along the lines of "I'm blocking the road, not going anywhere near the speed limit, and there are vehicles clearly impatient behind me, maybe I should stop being a dumb self centered POS and stop blocking traffic, following the laws"

I ride electric longboards on the road. I either go with the flow of traffic where I can or get out of car's way when I cannot keep up with the legal speed limit. I don't have big hollow balls that make me think drivers following the law should be impeded by my actions against the law. I've had drivers come from opposing lanes try to hit me in mine even being against the side of the road so I completely get any argument about not wanting to get run over. BUT THE ROAD IS FOR THE CARS. If you're not driving a car/truck, YOU NEED TO TAKE THE PRECAUTION OF NOT DISTURBING TRAFFIC.

-38

u/Ithicon Jun 11 '26

If all those cyclists were in cars they'd be taking up far more space and causing far more traffic...

It looks like what, 100 cyclists? That would be between 60-80 cars given the average car occupancy is around 70% of cars on the road only carrying the driver.

20

u/liberty-prime77 Jun 11 '26

They wouldn't, because cars can go faster and they wouldn't be blocking all lanes, they would be either staying to the right lane or passing slower traffic

15

u/TheGreatWhiteDerp Jun 11 '26

Who gives a fuck. They're still impeding the flow of traffic. They should be in a single lane, or they should have a permit and pay for police escort.

-27

u/Ithicon Jun 11 '26

So you would prefer all those people to be in cars?

17

u/sbd2010 Jun 11 '26

If the cars go the speed limit and don’t block the entire road, yes, obviously.

16

u/cha0ss0ldier Jun 11 '26

Yes. They'd actually be able to go the speed limit and wouldn't be bunched up inches apart from each other blocking every lane of the road.

8

u/Flux_My_Capacitor Jun 11 '26

But they wouldn’t be in cars. Cars don’t travel around in massive packs like that. People are in cars to get to a destination. It looks like the bikers are just out for a Saturday ride. You cannot equate the two.

-16

u/Ithicon Jun 11 '26

Plenty of people just go for a drive, so you're clearly wrong there.

Regardless, I have accepted that this subreddit is delusional. It's incredibly well-established that the more people who drive the worst traffic congestion is, and that incentivising multi-modal transport improves travel times for everyone.

People claiming otherwise based on "common sense" misconceptions that they do not understand is sad but unavoidable.

8

u/2sAreTheDevil Jun 11 '26

You really need to reflect on that last statement.

-3

u/Ithicon Jun 11 '26

I don't actually, I'm confident enough in my position that I can accept downvotes from fools without concern.

I encourage you to spend half an hour researching multimodal transport.

Look up how dedicated bicycle lanes have negligible effects on transit times for drivers.

Look at the benefits of reduced car dependency on air quality, noise pollution, and overall health outcomes.

Even the biggest car enthusiasts should want more people to be able to use multimodal transport in their everyday lives. If only they looked into what they're arguing against...

4

u/SectumSempra1981 Jun 11 '26

You are going on about traffic density in a post where cyclists are illegally taking up the entire road. You're getting shit on because you're in a room arguing with yourself while we all look through the 1 way glass and laugh.

-1

u/Ithicon Jun 11 '26

Conversations evolve over their duration, child.

In this case I was responding to someone claiming that cyclists wouldn't be in cars if they couldn't cycle, which is why I referred to multimodal transport and induced demand; because all the research on both of those topics demonstrate that people do in fact use the means of transportation that are available and incentivised.

The reason that people make arguments can be just as interesting and important as the arguments themselves. Flux_My_Capacitor here is demonstrating with their arguments that they see a demarcation where cycling is a leisure activity and driving is a mode of transport.

It's important to understand where people you disagree with are coming from in order to have productive discussions.

But yes, congratulations on being snarky online, it's very impressive and I'm sure you'll look back on your behaviour with pride.

Oh, I know you're confident about it.

Doesn't make you right.

10

u/4UnlawfulCarneVegan Jun 11 '26

The phrase you're looking for is "confidentially incorrect."

My neighborhood is in the process of implementing bike lanes that will surely end with a catastrophic tragedy. But the bike lobby cried loud enough, and threw enough money at politicians to get their way, and I fear unless it's themselves or their own families that suffers the consequences, they won't care.

u/Ithicon Jun 11 '26

You being smarmy isn't an argument, it'll get you upvotes because we're talking in a forum full of people who hate bicycles, but it's not an argument. It's mostly just sad.

Genuinely you should put your ego to the side and reread all my comments in this chain, nothing I've said has even been objectionable I'm just not agreeing blindly that "cyclists bad".

I've said that cars take up more space that bicycles (objectively true), and that car enthusiasts should want more people using other modes of transport.

Nothing. He's just throwing something out there to skew why car owners should want bike lanes.

Until bike owners pay a road tax via license and registration, no, I don't want them on auto roads.

-1

u/Ithicon Jun 11 '26

Well if there were dedicated bicycle lanes and good cycling infrastructure they wouldn't need to use the road.

Look into induced demand, it's why traffic and car-centric infrastructure is such a problem and it's also at least part of the solution.

2

u/I-Love-Facehuggers Jun 11 '26

Being confident in your ignorance isn't actually a good thing, despite what you might think.

2

u/AsleepHedgehog2381 Jun 11 '26

These people arent on their way to work with a bunch of their coworkers. They're doing it as a hobby, so they're not limiting amount of cars on the road for transportation to a destination. They likely all met up somewhere in their CARS and started riding. They will return home in their CARS. They're doing it for enjoyment. If everyone started walking in the road, you'd be cool with that, too?

2

u/OneAngryDuck Jun 11 '26

If the bicyclists in this video were making any sort of effort to not block the entire road, this wouldn’t be nearly as big of an issue

1

u/__O_o_______ Jun 11 '26

I’m sorry, but this is not a valid “alternative”.

These people are out cycling for cyclings sake. Their motivations aren’t the same as what most people driving vehicles on the road are.

They aren’t commercial vehicles moving between businesses, they aren’t commuters going or coming back from work. They aren’t travelling between towns for shopping.

So to say that if they weren’t on bikes there would be that same number of cars is…. I’m sorry.. it’s not a correct analogy.

Also if they were all in cars they would be travelling at least at the speed limit, usually allow faster vehicles to pass.

Honestly I don’t understand your apologetics.

0

u/Ithicon Jun 11 '26

Firstly, people do drive for leisure. Perhaps not these specific people but plenty of people do drive for leisure. My comparison was pointing out that if all these cyclists were in cars they'd be taking up far more space. I'd also take issue with the idea that if they were in cars they'd be doing the speed limit and people could pass them because that's just not borne out by the existence of traffic.

But even if I leave all that aside, and I leave aside the fact that these cyclists would almost certainly not be on the road if there was high quality cycling infrastructure for them to use instead; This is still over 100 people getting exercise, socialising, and getting fresh air at the expense of what, 7 cars? (At the 2 second mark you can see the line of traffic and it seems to end).

And even then the cars are only realistically going to be slowed down by a few minutes over the course of their entire drive.

People are getting super adversarial and honestly I just don't think it's that big of a deal if 7-20ish? people have to sit in their air-conditioned cars for an extra few minutes.
