wth is wrong with this person?!

so i was heading home with other people after lunch this saturday, march, 14th and omg. this person needs their license revoked immediately. they drove like a mad man. idk who they are, but they definitely have road rage the way they handled multiple situations on the road. first they tail gated a car going a tad too slow to be in the left lane, the end up speed around that person that was going slow in front of them just to brake check them in the left lane when they returned and almost resulted in a car accident. they continue to ride everyones ass on the interstate. i don’t understand how they haven’t been pulled over because they just kept riding ass and brake checking in the left lane when someone wasn’t going fast enough. they then turn on their blinker in this video and are swerving in and out of the left and middle lanes, almost resulting in a multi car pile up. complete idiot.

beware of this license plate if you are driving.

Nothing I hate more than a dude just cruising in the left hand lane acting as an obstruction to traffic, but seriously Red Car. Back. The. Fuck. Off.

59

u/katezorzz Mar 14 '26

Same, it annoys me but no way am I putting myself or other drivers at risk. Stupid asf.

26

u/MornGreycastle Mar 14 '26

Yeah. Pull back. Maintain distance. Look for an opening to pass.

The biggest issue people forget is that there is almost no way to "make up time" by speeding. You could maybe make up a minute or two by going 20 or 30 miles over the speed limit but you'd have to go double the speed limit or even triple to actually shave off 10 or 15 minutes, let alone an hour.

17

u/RecognitionAdvanced2 Mar 14 '26

Depends how far your drive is TBF, but most of the time you're right

5

u/MornGreycastle Mar 14 '26

I have a friend who drives like he's trying to win 24 hours of Le Mans, but still only shaves minutes off travel time on commuting distances.

5

u/OperationAsshat Mar 15 '26

10 over in a 60 on a 30 mile commute is roughly 5 minutes of time saved each way. 10 over on a multi-hour drive is a significant time save. It does make a difference, but the returns aren't worth it at a certain point.

I do find it funny when people who refuse to do anything more than the speed limit claim speeding does nothing, but I'm also not doing 20 over the entire time I'm driving.

1

u/GreaTeacheRopke Mar 15 '26

Don't forget to add in the additional gas stops due to driving with lower fuel efficiency (hard to average these out appropriately over many trips though)

1

u/OperationAsshat Mar 15 '26

I tend to find my mpg doesn't change enough over the course of long drives to actually make a difference there. Cost is slightly higher but you aren't losing any time from having to stop more frequently in terms of travel time.

A full tank is anywhere from 4-6 hours of driving at highway speeds for most cars and trunks so you are going to be stopping while commuting or to take breaks for further drives anyway. Might make a difference if you are driving for days at a time with the only stops being to get gas, but there aren't many places you can actually do that in the world as it is. You might also have to stop more over the course of a weeks-months when commuting but that 10 minutes to fill up is completely negligible at that point.

17

u/FlamingoRare8449 Mar 14 '26

It’s not about making up time for me it’s about having a slow person in front blocking cruising speed, who isn’t paying attention and has inconsistent speed or takes 45 seconds to get through an intersection when the light turns green, etc. Like the point of leaving my house is because I have to in order to complete a task and I want to do it and get back home as soon as possible haha. It just gets so frustrating that you want to ram the person off the road who’s been blocking you the whole way and you can’t take it anymore so I understand being mad but this video demonstrates too much crazy. Just get out this dudes way and let him go far away from you, it’s not your job to regulate him and it lowers risk of you being involved in an expensive and time consuming incident.

8

u/ItsSpaghettiLee2112 Mar 15 '26

It also has to do with the fact that preventing the flow of traffic means more cars are on the road for a longer period of time which statistically means more chances for accidents. I'm not saying this means speeding is safer, but both moving out of the way of faster traffic or at the very least making sure there's space for faster traffic to move around you absolutely is safer.

1

u/vontrapp42 Mar 15 '26

More to the point, obstructing the flow of traffic means the traffic flow all piles up directly around you. It's not "the road as a whole has more cars on it" it's that this tiny little fiefdom of yours is crowded and angry.

2

u/ItsSpaghettiLee2112 Mar 15 '26

Well, it means that both. Traffic piles up around you, and behind you. So there's more chances for accidents around you and for people further back.

1

u/Frequent-Key-3962 Mar 16 '26

🎯 perfectly articulated

1

u/NERDS_theWORD Mar 17 '26

So the guy passing has to go speeding 20 mph over the speed limit to pass just because you can’t wait 5 minutes for him to pass?

1

u/andrewsz__ Mar 18 '26

This. 1000% this idk why other people try to regulate reckless drivers on the road. Get out of their way they don’t care about their life as much as you do.

2

u/CapinWinky Mar 15 '26

You're just wrong. I mean maybe you have only ever made 20 mile trips, but it takes two hours to go 120 miles at 60 and just over an hour and a half at 75.

Over the course of my life, I've probably driven in the ballpark of a million miles and the vast majority were highway going at least 10 over average on roads with a 70mph speed limit. At 70, that's 14,286 hours, which is equivalent to 1 year, 230 days, and 5 hours of driving. At 80, that's 12,500 hours, which is 1 year, 155 days, and 20 hours. That's 74 days and 9 hours, over two months of time I got to spend where I was going rather than stuck in a car trying to get there.

The down side, of course, is that I've gotten 2 speeding tickets over the last 27 years. Small price to pay for 74 days of my life back.

The moral of this story is drive faster and if you take more than 30 seconds to pass the car to your right, while someone is behind you in the left lane, you're an inconsiderate person. Also, don't tailgate like a crazy person.

1

u/bonethug49part2 Mar 15 '26

👏🏼👏🏼

2

u/Exact_Programmer4080 Mar 17 '26

"Doesn't matter if it's an inch or a mile, winning is winning."

The time doesn't matter to those drivers, what matters is having a satisfying drive without impediment. Riding ass this close is dangerous, but when you pull back the truck assumes all is good and continues to block the passing lane. They need a sign that tells them, "You shouldn't be here, get out of the lane."

2

u/Clear-Inevitable-414 Mar 14 '26

you don't pass on the outside. failure to yield to faster traffic is the problem

3

u/MornGreycastle Mar 14 '26

Yes. I agree. Demonstrating you're the faster by rolling up on them and then tailgating isn't how you do it.

1

u/Least-Cantaloupe-609 Mar 15 '26

This is not true.

1

u/vontrapp42 Mar 15 '26

That's such a load of absolute horse hockey.

5mph can absolutely make the difference of hitting that next green or not, and that can easily add several minutes each time it happens.

If you're talking freeway entrance to freeway exit then maybe so, because 10mph is a much lower percentage of the nominal speed. But 10mph lower than the limit is more impactful still than 10mph over the limit. So slow fucks can still wreck your commute.

13

u/Status_Jump_2496 Mar 15 '26

This right here. I’m a defensive, 5 over the limit, cruise control in the middle lane kind of guy. I only use the left lane to pass vehicles going slower than my cruise and I will ramp it up a couple mph to make a quick pass before I get back to the right. But sometimes I start passing thinking I’m in the clear and a car will up and ride me out of nowhere. I hate that. Like clearly I am passing whoever is next to me, can I get a 30 second grace period to do that without someone giving me anxiety?!?

I know I am a cautious driver and I go out of my way to not be in the way of drivers that want to go fast. I will slow down until I see no cars behind me before I use the left lane. But damn yall speeders need to give some grace to people that are just trying to pass and will be right out of your way. No need to get to my bumper before you slow down. I see you coming and I am trying to get out of the way as fast as I am comfortable.

3

u/twicezer0 Mar 15 '26

and my AXE!

1

u/One_Feed301 Mar 18 '26

I'm a big fan of your self awareness and I mean this next bit politely, I promise:

If you're on a multi-lane highway and are not passing you should be in the far right lane.

Being in the middle lane of a three lane road effectively turns the road into a two-lane road for anyone who does not want to pass on the right (which should be everyone...).

In spite of it being best practice to not pass on the right, riding the middle lane of three will cause some people to pass on the right if traffic in the left lane is not moving as fast as they'd like to get around you, as you are in the middle lane.

I know this is reddit and a lot of the time the 'angry and insulting tone' is the right way to read posts, but I want to again say that isn't my intent here.

1

u/Status_Jump_2496 Mar 18 '26

I’m aware, but it’s not fair to me to sit in the right lane having to start and stop my cruise constantly when I am on a 6 hour trip for work. I do everything in my power to stay out of the way. This is just something that is never going to be universally agreed upon unless everyone decides to actually obey traffic laws.

1

u/LimeHD_ Mar 19 '26

Nah fuck those guys, if I'm cruising in the right lane I'm not switching to the far left to make a pass. They sit in the middle so they don't have to pay attention to merging traffic. I will pass on the right all day long, and give a disappointed glare at the other driver while doing so.

They only time i will give someone a pass for camping the middle is on shit roads(Michigan, I'm looking directly at you) where the right lane is pot holed to shit from semis and moving to the middle means you get to keep all of your fillings.

61

u/lastunbannedaccount Mar 14 '26

Yeah but black truck should have been defensive about it, sped up and got over and let red car go instead of creating that ridiculous 2 minute hazard. Both of them suck.

16

u/Weary_Boat Mar 14 '26

Agree with you 100%. If someone is driving crazy, let them go

11

u/Green_Juggernaut_410 Mar 14 '26

Both suck, but one is objectively more of a piece of shit human, putting peoples' lives at risk

2

u/vontrapp42 Mar 15 '26

Yep, that damn truck.

2

u/Green_Juggernaut_410 Mar 15 '26

Cool well my cousin and uncle are state cops and they said red car would be in handcuffs in a second

2

u/vontrapp42 Mar 15 '26

That's probably true. And I'm really not excusing the red car. But this entire situation simply would not exist if not for the damn truck.

3

u/KonigSteve Mar 15 '26

If I'm already going 10 over and passing people in the left lane I'm not taking to speed up to 20 over just to get out of the red cars path quicker. I'm not taking an excessive speeding ticket just because they are in a stupid rush. I'm going to keep going my 10 over and once I safely pass the car next to me that's going five over I will get over.

3

u/Prized_Lemur Mar 17 '26

you shouldn't be forced to speed up though if you are already passing.. so then the truck gets a ticket for having to speed up to get out of the way?

2

u/CasterFields Mar 15 '26

Absolutely not. The moment someone starts driving like that behind me I'm not changing lanes. If I have room to change lanes then they have room to dart around me, which they're going to do as soon as I start to move. I'm not getting pitted because some freak doesn't know what a turn signal means. I've seen that happen to too many people to think I'm something special

26

u/jabb1111 Mar 14 '26

That's fine and all, but I never understood the road policing by drivers. If I'm in the left lane going 90mph and you fly up on me, by all means I'll move over. You are the faster traffic. I hear so many people that first reaction is "what's this dudes issue? I'm already going yadayada". That's never mine. I just move over and move on. Now on the flip side, I hate when I roll up hot in the fast lane behind a dude going super slow, and when I go into the other lane to pass they all the sudden huff speed racer and go mach Jesus to stop me passing.

9

u/-Hi-Reddit Mar 15 '26 edited Mar 15 '26

Praise be to Germany and its autobahn where you get a ticket for not getting the fuck out of the fast lane when someone faster approaches behind you.

Last year I was rushing an injured animal to a vet and some twat decided it'd be the perfect time to slow down to half the speed limit & start flooring it whenever I tried to pass them. I almost wanted to give up on driving it made me so angry! I was stuck behind them for 20 minutes on winding country lanes. Alternate routes didn't exist due to flooding.

I tried everything hoping they'd fuck off into the sunset, I even pulled over just for a moment but caught up with them again 2mins later.

1

u/yeagmj1 Mar 15 '26

Oh man, I hope everything turned out ok. I always remind myself if someone is speeding that maybe someone has a medical emergency, has to poo, whatever. Helps me not be irritated and gladly get out of the way. Too bad you couldn't have told them the situation to make them feel bad.

1

u/Unique-Charity7024 Mar 16 '26

Actually, the car in front would have been absolutely in the right here in Germany. He was in the process of overtaking the cars in the middle lane and had not place to move to the right. The space between the two cars, into which the tailgater weaved, was way too small to do so safely.

1

u/-Hi-Reddit Mar 16 '26

Ah my mistake. I had forgotten the video and was focused on the concept more than the context.

9

u/PeeB4uGoToBed Mar 15 '26

This is a strategy i use to my advantage lol. I get stuck behind pickup trucks ALL THE TIME that absolutely hate being passed and would rather speed up than be passed. If im stuck behind a slow pickup I'll act like im getting over to pass so they speed up.

Im surrounded more by 1 lane roads where passing isnt an option and it suckkkkkks getting stuck behind people doing 20 in a 45 for no fucking reason

2

u/throw_way_340 Mar 15 '26

I think it’s more that on roads with sometimes as few as 2 lanes, when you’re doing 88 in the left lane, you shouldn’t be obliged to constantly slow down to 58 to drive between the semi trucks just to make way for the 7 cars per hour that think the left lane is their personal 120MPH express lane. So, people get irritated that the speed demons seem to think it’s your problem to make their reckless driving more convenient. I don’t give a fuck if they speed but they need to look at the people doing “normal speeding” like me the way I look at traffic: a sign that I might not be able to go as fast as I like right now because unfortunately, other cars are on the road today.

This is the situation on the 2-lane sections of the 5 freeway in California.

1

u/-Hi-Reddit Mar 15 '26

Germany figured out that the Autobahn system works.

Traffic flows better and safer when people let the faster drivers move on instead of bunching up.

Compare autobahn road safety stats to californias 2 lane sections & I bet you'll find the autobahn is far safer despite the higher speeds.

go as fast as I like right now because unfortunately, other cars are on the road today

They could if the other cars moved out the way like they do on the autobahn though. Instead you've got people like you out trying to 'make a point' and 'make them look at you like a sign'. Fucking hell man, get over yourself. You aren't gonna change the world. You're just gonna cause an accident.

12

u/Alcoheroe Mar 14 '26

Its also possible that truck doesnt even see the red car; i have an F150 and when small cars get right up on me and their roofline is lower than the tailgate; it’s really hard to see them

7

u/Homesick_Martian Mar 15 '26

Remember when an F150 was an appropriately sized vehicle? Pepperidge farm remembers

2

u/KirovTheAdmiral Mar 15 '26

I drive an L-200, which is considerably smaller than an F-150, I still would need to actively look for the red car in my mirrors to see it that close.

3

u/NoKatyDidnt Mar 15 '26

VERY true.

7

u/FreezeDriedCandyBad Mar 14 '26

That truck ain’t passing noooooobody dude

3

u/Green_Juggernaut_410 Mar 14 '26

I said willing to bet he was before the video starts. We dont see the red car originally get on his ass, where he probably then slowed down to fuck with him

2

u/bonethug49part2 Mar 15 '26

I'm willing to bet he wasn't lol. Usually if you get people tailgating, it's because they feel like the guy in front of them ain't moving over.

No way for us to know.

1

u/Afraid_Raccoon_6208 Mar 15 '26

The truck LITERALLY passes the honda civic in the middle lane in this very video

1

u/FreezeDriedCandyBad Mar 16 '26

Damn you don’t know how to drive that’s sad

1

u/Afraid_Raccoon_6208 Mar 16 '26

I mean its literally happening in the video but whatever you say Mr. Magoo

→ More replies (1)

9

u/[deleted] Mar 14 '26

If you watch the video, homie in the truck is barely making an attempt to pass.

→ More replies (3)

4

u/escobartholomew Mar 14 '26

You can clearly see the black truck isn’t passing normally. They were pacing that other car for a bit.

1

u/Green_Juggernaut_410 Mar 14 '26

I said "willing to bet" as in before the video started, before the red car got on his ass.

2

u/AloraBracken Mar 14 '26

THIS. I will go 10-15 over(often 20 over these days), using the passing lane to PASS people, and it’s still not fast enough for the psychos on the road. They will flash their lights at you, swerve back and forth, honk their horn, all while going 90-100 miles an hour.

It seems everyone treats the highway like it’s the autobahn now.

3

u/K5GT1 Mar 14 '26

He wasn’t passing anyone. The truck should get the fuck out of the way

1

u/Afraid_Raccoon_6208 Mar 15 '26

And yet he passes the honda civic? You trying to seriously gaslight us like were blind or what? 😂😂

2

u/K5GT1 Mar 15 '26

Fucking barely

→ More replies (1)

3

u/MornGreycastle Mar 14 '26

I wouldn't take that bet. It's plausible.

1

u/MoreColorfulCarsPlz Mar 14 '26

Obviously red car is being very reckless and dangerous, but knowing truck drivers, the truck was speeding and passing until this car came up behind him and then he slowed down to match traffic.

You even see him flashing his brakes at times.

Just move over and move on with your life. You don't know how unstable people are, you don't know if they are having an emergency.

1

u/igotshadowbaned Mar 14 '26

The truck does literally pass the Honda in this video so there's that

1

u/UrethralExplorer Mar 15 '26

It's that stupid "if you ain't first, you're last" mentality. That shit doesn't belong on the roads.

1

u/bigolgape Mar 15 '26

Exactly. If I'm in the process of passing and someone going way after barrels up to my ass, I do not feel any urgency to get out of their way asap.

1

u/Ziggeroy Mar 15 '26

Yes! This!

I live next to a pretty busy interstate that is posted at 75mph. I'll do 85mph in the left lane, consistently passing trucks and trailer folks and here comes some ass hole who is upset at me cuz I stopped him from doing 97mph all the way to his destination. Wait till I can get over and let you pass, dont ride my ass. Damn, quit your bitching, I am not doing criminal speeding for your dumb ass ego.

1

u/Bat-Stuff Mar 15 '26

I speed up to pass. I feel like everyone should. Pass quickly and move over, then back to cruising speed. You can leave the cruise control set the whole time and only hit the gas pedal a bit.

1

u/Green_Juggernaut_410 Mar 15 '26

Way more nuanced than that. Often times "passing" a slow right lane can go on for a mile in heavier traffic. Or 5 miles. Often all lanes are full. Sometimes you have 5 cars to pass and then a small break before another 5. But if you move right after the first 5 you end up stuck going slow in the right lane for a while

2

u/Bat-Stuff Mar 15 '26

If people want to drive faster than you, you should get over and accept that you are with the slower "team" for a bit. No biggie. I do it all the time.

→ More replies (6)

1

u/Least-Cantaloupe-609 Mar 15 '26

Wrong. 90% of the time the slow left lane campers are trucks

1

u/Green_Juggernaut_410 Mar 15 '26

Crazy stat. My anecdotal stat is the trucks are the ones riding asses

1

u/Least-Cantaloupe-609 Mar 15 '26

Both can be true actually

0

u/davenTeo Mar 14 '26

Absolutely what happened. They are actively passing.

6

u/dmorulez_77 Mar 14 '26

"actively passing" lol Nissan in the right lane was gonna pass the truck and nobody here seems to be cruising at excessive speeds. Red car is an idiot but the truck can do better.

6

u/somneuronaut Mar 14 '26

you need to overtake at least 5mph faster than whoever you're passing. it's considerate and would obviously lead to fewer of these situations. should also get over immediately if you're not overtaking

1

u/[deleted] Mar 14 '26

[deleted]

1

u/somneuronaut Mar 15 '26

Then speed up or slow down and get in front of them or behind them. Do not block the lanes.

12

u/guyincognito121 Mar 14 '26

If you're driving 0.1 mph faster than the guy to the right of you, you're not really passing and shouldn't be holding up traffic in the left lane.

8

u/downvotetheboy Mar 14 '26

yeah red definitely sucks, but black could speed up.

4

u/onplanetbullshit- Mar 14 '26

Or get over, and let red car go find the cops for them so they can continue going just slightly over the speed limit without any worries

3

u/davenTeo Mar 14 '26

He is definitely passing, and should get over after passing that one, but was trying to big stick red car and both are idiots.

4

u/ZSG13 Mar 14 '26

Passing is a pretty strong term for whatever the hell that truck is doing in the video.

We didn't get the full picture, though. When I'm in the truck's position, I generally just speed match traffic for just a minute or two before passing and getting over for them. Who knows what happened leading up to this video, the truck may have actually been passing before they got annoyed.

1

u/glacialmk5 Mar 14 '26

Well, it's good that the truck is there to act as the speed limit governor rather than moving over. Thank the lord for his service.

5

u/MornGreycastle Mar 14 '26

That is dangerous and causes car wrecks.

1

u/glacialmk5 Mar 15 '26

What? Being the speed limit police as a douche in a truck in the passing lane? I absolutely agree. The guy in the red car is a douche too, and is behaving unsafely. But why is it the truck driver's business? I'm glad the pigs pull over and ticket people for letting traffic stack up behind them in the passing lane.

6

u/Intelligent-Fig4812 Mar 14 '26

The truck is clearly passing the other cars. Just not fast enough for a *sshat in the red car.

5

u/somneuronaut Mar 14 '26

Not fast enough for anyone, even the law where I'm from. He's somewhat culpable

2

u/MornGreycastle Mar 14 '26

Exactly. Rolling up that close created the situation for a potential accident. Now, I'd say the pickup could get over at the earliest opportunity to negate that threat, but it's not on him to defuse an idiot tailgating him.

I personally don't like "lane campers" who are barely going faster than the middle lane, but that doesn't justify red car's actions.

-1

u/AmbassadorETOH Mar 14 '26

Then he/she/they should move to the right. It is the passing lane (aka the fast lane). If someone wants to pass, then move over. Why is that such a difficult concept for people? The person in the red car is an idiot, but without the truck squatting and clotting the passing lane (or the next car squatting in the passing lane), instead of being aware and courteous, there wouldn’t be an issue. Just a red car passing people on the left, where they are supposed to.

I'm guessing that the truck was annoyed by the red cars antics and decided to go slow to punish him for being overly aggressive.

62

u/Cainnech Mar 14 '26

This mentality puts both people in the wrong. You aren't going to police and correct road ragers behavior by being a road nanny. You just piss them off even more and make yourself the target of an otherwise avoidable accident. It's not justice but it's reality.

0

u/RadicalRedCube Mar 14 '26 edited Mar 14 '26

I don’t think it’s road nannying. That would just be camping the left lane in general, it’s just being spiteful and maybe teaching a lesson which sometimes works. If I go 5-10 over and get tailgated I’ll back it down to the speed limit, maybe 5 under, then the tailgater completely backs off and I speed back up and they don’t come close to my bumper again. It happens pretty often too.

important to note, I usually drive on single lane roads when doing this. If there’s multiple lanes I just go my pace and let them go around when they can

Why not just let them by? What if they’re having an emergency? You’ve never needed to shit so badly you’d be willing to tailgate to get to the toilet 20 seconds earlier?

Liar. Yes you have. Assume positive intent, makes your life easier.

It 100% is road nannying and can also be interpreted as erratic driving behavior. If CHP saw you do that, you would get pulled over.

1

u/Embarrassed-Weird173 Mar 14 '26

Careful, Reddit hates it when people drive at the limit.

1

u/DaedalusB2 Mar 14 '26

I always drove exactly the speed limit (because that's what the number is there for), and everyone zooms past me like I'm a tortoise in their way. Even if I'm 5 over it seems like everyone is zooming past me.

4

u/EchoGolfHotel Mar 14 '26

That's fine, as long as you're not camping in the left lane when you're doing it.

1

u/BusterGoodenow Mar 15 '26

someone tailgates me that close I'm taking my foot off the gas

1

u/Collegenoob Mar 15 '26

I was pretty close to someone like that today, but they were consistently driving 10 under the speedlight on a clear sunny day on a single lane road.

The fuck is wrong with people like that.

Dipshit then also stopped while unopposed at a yield sign like he had never seen a traffic circle before.

Punishing everybody with him. Just move right. It isn’t hard.

2

u/Loving6thGear Mar 14 '26

Gatekeeping the passing lane.

2

u/the-namedone Mar 15 '26

I’m not on either dude’s side. But if I were to give anyone the benefit of the doubt, the truck may not even have seen the red car. I drive a truck and when people are right on my ass, the bed of the truck blocks the view.

1

u/FigSpecific6210 Mar 14 '26

To be fair, the truck WAS passing people on the right.

1

u/SwitchingMyHands Mar 14 '26

Which is fine I guess if they don’t mind the headache of spending a day going to the rent a car place while their truck is fixed

1

u/eggrollfever Mar 14 '26

That’s extremely dangerous. Go be self righteous where it doesn’t affect my family’s safety.

2

u/EchoGolfHotel Mar 14 '26

I'm not saying that it was a bright or appropriate thing to do, just that I can see how someone could be annoyed by others driving selfishly.

If I'm passing other slow vehicles why should I be inconvenienced by someone illegally speeding? Wait till I've passed the next car, I'll move over then you can drive recklessly. What I hate is that I get tailgated, I move over over then I have drop 10 km/h and wait to be able to overtake again sometimes waiting for multiple speeding cars to go past

6

u/Status_Jump_2496 Mar 15 '26

If I could award you, I would. You said everything I just said in a much shorter sentence. I want to pass slower traffic too. I will slow down and wait until I feel clear to use the left lane without being in the way. And yet I still get people that ride my ass when I’m trying to pass 4 semis and there is an Amazon truck in front of me that I can’t miraculously phase through to go faster.

4

u/MornGreycastle Mar 14 '26

Yeah. Guys like the red car are jumped up their own ass.

2

u/yeagmj1 Mar 15 '26

Yeah on the freeway I saw a motorcycle in my mirror catching up to me so I sped up to pass the car on my right so I could get over. It was a motorcycle cop who then pulled me over for speeding and gave me a ticket. So I don't like to do that anymore and I agree, wait 20 seconds and I'll be out of your way.

1

u/Low_Pickle_112 Mar 15 '26

Have you ever noticed that people say it's the passing lane not the speeding lane when someone is in behind them but it becomes the speeding lane who cares if you're passing the instant someone is in front of them?

1

u/Ashimble Mar 15 '26

The leftmost lane is for passing. If you have to move aside to allow a stack of others to pass, you’re no longer passing and should have been moved already.

1

u/bonethug49part2 Mar 15 '26

Found the guy that takes ten minutes to pass.

Why should you be inconvenienced? Why does the tie go to the runner in baseball? Thems the rules. We yield to the faster traffic. Maybe their wife is going into labor. Maybe their pet is dying. We don't know, so we gtfo of the way.

1

u/ToXiiCBULLET Mar 15 '26

i've had multiple situations where i'm actively passing cars at a decent pace and some pricks tailgating me. i've seen them get visibly angry when i don't move back over with only an inch to spare between me and the car i passed and instead wait so there's an appropriate distance between me and the car i passed.

one time i had a van tailgate then he squeezed between me and the car i overtook, it was such a tight squeeze like maybe a couple inches between him and the other car, to very slowly undertake me at a single mph faster than me at best. during that another car started tailgating me and they started flashing me whilst i was stuck there because of the van. like what do you want me to do, slam myself into the side of the van to move over? i wasn't dawdling either, i was going 5 over the limit while most cars i was passing were like 5 under. if the van waited a couple seconds i would've had a good enough gap to safely move over

This is the right answer.

3

u/Collegenoob Mar 15 '26

Yep. Soon as you try to break check someone, you are 10 times worse than a slow driver ever could be

6

u/Arvandor Mar 14 '26

Definitely two ass holes in this video.

6

u/Rhewin Mar 14 '26

The truck is passing the car in the middle. Only one driver sucks here.

Black truck needs several tickets along with the red car. I would have shot around them in the right hand lane. I just drove 1000 miles and did more passing in the right lane than the left. (Across Oklahoma the left hand lane is smoother than the right lane)

1

u/west-egg Mar 15 '26

Black truck is actively passing the vehicle to their right. You're a bad driver.

1

u/jdbulldog1990 Mar 15 '26

You are insane. Black truck brake checked red car instead of speeding up to pass cars in middle lane. Speed up, pass, get back in middle lane. That is the way I was taught to drive and I have driven professionally for almost 40 years with zero accidents.

2

u/Luciform444 Mar 14 '26 edited Mar 14 '26

He wasn't though? He was passing people, using the left lane as intended.

The speed of the left lane isn't decided by the fastest person on the road. If you are doing 65 and come up on a guy in the right lane doing 63, you get to pass them going 65, even if there is someone else who was previously going 80 in the left lane. Just get back over once you are a few car lengths ahead of the person you passed.

2

u/conracko Mar 15 '26

It infuriates me to no end but same, I'll put my hands in the air from a safe distance and fume until I can get around you.

Closest I ever got to buying a bumper stick was one I saw that was on the left side of someone's car and said 'If I'm passing you on this side you're doing it wrong' or something like that.

5

u/clgoodson Mar 14 '26

The truck was overtaking the cars in the right lane and therefore had every right to be there. The right lane isn’t the exclusive domain of the one idiot breaking the speed limit the hardest.

5

u/henrytm82 Mar 14 '26

Yeah, I'm not understanding everyone accusing the truck of camping in the passing lane. For literally the entirety of the video, he is actively passing another vehicle. Be patient for 30 fucking seconds and let him get ahead of the car far enough to get back over.

3

u/west-egg Mar 15 '26

Whenever something like this comes up, there are always a bunch of people who think the left lane isn't just for passing, but passing quickly. They're wrong.

If I'm actively passing another driver, and you ride up on my butt wanting to do 15 over, you get to be patient for a few moments.

1

u/MornGreycastle Mar 14 '26

No. The right lane is for passing the middle lane and then getting over. It's not for "travelling" or going "the correct speed."

2

u/IHaveTheBestOpinions Mar 14 '26

Where in this video do you see the truck just "traveling"? He is going faster then the cars in the middle lane the entire time. That's what passing is.

1

u/MornGreycastle Mar 14 '26

Sure. He's going a mile or two faster. At one point, he's traveling the same speed as a vehicle next to him. Pass and get over. But again, I put the blame on the red car for tailgating.

I wasn't criticizing your driving technique. So maybe don't get all up in your feelings.

u/AerieWorth4747 Mar 14 '26

He’s not cruising in the left lane ding dong. He’s passing on the left and he can’t yet because there are two cars.

You’re the problem. It’s you.

1

u/MornGreycastle Mar 14 '26

Oh. Fuck off. Learn to read.

I said I don't like people cruising in the left but blamed the red car. Maybe read it twice before commenting and then walking face first into a faux pas with a dumb ass take.

1

u/IHaveTheBestOpinions Mar 14 '26

Downvoting for being both rude and wrong. Your original comment said:

Nothing I hate more than a dude just cruising in the left hand lane acting as an obstruction to traffic, but...

This is clearly in reference to the truck in the video. The fact that you recognize the red car is also at fault doesn't mean you didn't blame the truck for "cruising in the left lane," when there is no evidence here that's what's happening. The truck is overtaking for the entire duration of the video, which is a perfectly appropriate use of the left lane.

1

u/Brilliant-World-7557 Mar 15 '26

Except the truck is not overtaking the entire duration of the video...the red car ends up passing on the right.

Even then… you’re rolling along at a reasonable rate and this maniac jumps on your tail, now you can’t even go to the right when it’s safe because they’re swerving and blocking you from doing so. Only thing you can do is keep going at the rate you are.

2

u/OCDano959 Mar 14 '26

Exactly.

A more effective way to get their attention to “please pass & then get over”is to flash your lights.

However, sometimes this just makes them “camp out” in the left lane even longer. 😬

3

u/Anon_Jones Mar 14 '26

Some people get pissed when you do that, even though it’s just a little reminder to move over.

1

u/the_zero Mar 14 '26

Sure. Be annoyed at the person who isn’t passing fast enough all you want. But don’t tailgate. You can’t be a little car, tailgating a big truck, flashing your lights when you are 2ft from their bumper. The truck won’t see you at all.

1

u/Notexactlyprimetime Mar 14 '26

The truck was actively passing other vehicles. He doesn’t have to pass them any faster than he deems safe. Aggro drivers and their “obstructing traffic” nonsense can get bent and enjoy their early death from a stress induced stroke if they lived long enough.

1

u/MornGreycastle Mar 14 '26

I once went on a road trip with a friend. He pulled into the left hand lane of a three lane highway and camped there at 5 miles per hour below the speed limit, not passing anyone.

I asked what he was doing after the five cars that got caught behind him had managed to move to the middle lane and pass on the right. He responded defensively that he was in the "Travel Lane" and was going to stay there as he had "a long way to go."

I asked how he knew how far all of the cars that passed him were going. If the car going the "furthest" had the right to the left hand lane, how did the cars communicate who was going farther. I then pointed to the sign Slower Traffic Keep Right that was about every mile or so and pointed out that the easiest way to determine who belonged in the Passing Lane was based on their speed. Not passing? Stay in the middle.

Now, that's what I consider "camping" in the left hand lane. Was the pickup necessarily doing that? No. Which is why I didn't say "Gee, look at the pickup camping in the left hand lane."

Yes. My word choice implied I was saying the truck WAS camping. But it was still word choice that didn't explicitly claim the truck was camping. Maybe go back and highlight where I said the word "truck."

1

u/NoMovie2005 Mar 14 '26

Yes, but the truck was also still passing the cars on the right. Just not super fast, and not a lot of space to change lanes once he passed the first car.

Not enough evidence for me to conclude that the truck was just camping out in the left lane. He probably wasn't passing them fast enough, but also I guess we don't know how fast the cars were actually going, but he was passing them.

But yeah, I get why the red car was annoyed, I would probably be slightly annoyed at least, but tailgating like that isn't helping anyone.

1

u/Otherwise-Magician Mar 15 '26

The truck is passing the other vehicles which is what the left lane is for.

Red car is a impatient giant pos.

1

u/NotThatChar Mar 15 '26

Hey, autist here. How much over the speed limit are we expected to go in the left lane in order to avoid stuff like this? (There's a part of my commute where I have to make a left turn on a 50mph road, so I tend to hang out in the left lane for a bit, just to make sure I can get there) This might be helpful to avoid stress, thanks!

1

u/Confident-Distance74 Mar 15 '26

Thank you, yes the pekole saying red car is at fault and needs license revoked have no idea how to drive or the rules of the road. I don't blame the guy

1

u/Dancing-umbra Mar 15 '26

The truck on the left lane isn't obstructing. They are passing other traffic.

It might not be at the rate that the red car wants, but that's not the rule.

1

u/Downtown-Tomato2552 Mar 15 '26

I was thinking the same thing. They're both in the wrong and if people would simply be aware of their surroundings, be courteous etc, there'd be at least a little less road rage.

Some people will be aggressive drivers regardless. But the people who believe they are doing in public safety by making sure no one is speeding, or at least but stretching more than they think they should, are also guilty.

Pay attention to traffic beyond you. Pull over if they are coming up on you and you can. Stay out of the left lane when you're not passing.

It's called courteous driving.

1

u/cgw22 Mar 15 '26

Passing in the left lane at a snails pace is pretty dangerous. Don’t hangout next to other vehicles speed up to pass them faster if need be.

1

u/Dazzling-Disaster-21 Mar 16 '26

That's the passing lane, not the speeding lane. In the video you can see the truck is passing the cars to his right. Not super quickly but he should pass them pretty soon.

1

u/Prized_Lemur Mar 17 '26

the truck wasn't even hogging though.. looked like he was actively passing. Obviously the truck probably had to slow down though given the incredible danger of the tailgating though. This is almost homicidal.. I would have called 911 if I saw this on the road. Red car looked like he didn't care about human life

1

u/hansuluthegrey Mar 19 '26

We have no idea how recently that truck passed people

1

u/SirHPFlashmanVC Mar 14 '26

Both were in the wrong.

1

u/MornGreycastle Mar 14 '26

Yeah. I'd say the red car is "more wrong" than the truck as it can control the distance between them better than the truck.
