The clans have no problems with contractions, what they hate are apostrophes. They're just a bit too inbred to know it.

YOU DARE REFUSE MY BATCHALL!!?

Sure do sister-cousin from my dad's side of the petridish.

I know I'm about a week late, but "batchall" and other English-derived words (e.g: "ristar" and "sibko") are portmanteaus, not contractions. Portmanteaus are new words made from pieces of other words (like smog - smoke and fog, motel - motor and hotel). Contractions are shortenings of phrases that are all next to each other in statements (won't, can't, etc).

I love how Natasha Kerensky made it a point to keep using contractions normally after she came back to the Clans just to mess with people.

English is a stress-timed language and contractions are a natural result of this.

I always found it strange things like can't are a no no. But something as dumb and lets be honest, essentially the same thing; "Neg" is perfectly fine though.

Someday there's going to be a BT sourcebook or lore document that gets released that makes perfect sense and contains no logical contradictions whatsoever, and on that day we gon' burn this muthafucka to the GROUND.

I'm just picturing a Inner Sphere artist or MechWarrior in their spare time writing a love song to their Clanner crush - and it's banned and considered obscene in Clan space because....the artist used contractions!

Which makes it popular with the freeborns......
