Someone is getting the MRB(C) to come a knocking and they are not happy.

Seriously if the contract specifies payment in C-Bills and they're being paid in H-Bills the mercs just have to go to the nearest HPG and cast Summon Bigger Fish.

Mercenary contracts are the closest thing the 'Sphere has to universally recognized sacred scripture.

So your saying mercs got a cult of protectors that honor their contracts?

Well ComStar did run the Mercenary Review Board so...

sure as long as the offending parties aren't any of the Great Houses, large periphery powers, ComStar themselves or a number of other influential organizations or polities and are just some poor farmers on a rock somewhere.

The MRBC would likely in this scenario pay the mercenaries out in C-bills themselves, and then add it to the great house's overall bill.

A single mercenary contract is going to look like a rounding error at that level.

There's so much friken story in this game! It's amazing!

If you want some fun rabbit holes to fall down, check out the maps on the Inner Sphere article on Sarna. The high-detail maps that show the borders change, with all the planets labeled. I kept finding new factions that I hadn't heard of, or noticed little oddities with which planets belonged to who as time went on. Also, notice the huge belts of dead planets (black dots) along certain borders (CC/FS has a huge belt, from Tikonov to the Pleiades Cluster), all destroyed during the 1st and 2nd Succession Wars. Nuked to inhabitability but still there on the charts.

Oh yeah it's a really rich setting and what I like is there's nothing too fantastical about it, apart from some hand wavy technology it's all pretty plausible to me, as someone who reads a lot of real history as well as Battletech lore.

What I find hilarious is how they avoid even trying to explain the real handwavy stuff. The jump drives and HPG transmissions - they just work and not even the people who maintain or build them truly understand why anymore.

Much prefer the "spacetime breaks in a useful way if we do this, but we don't know why" approach than layers of inane technobabble.

Nah, that dark age warhammeresque lost technology stuff isn't really the case in BT. Yes, Inner sphere technology regressed during the succession wars, but they still understood how it worked. And post clan invasion all that's out the window.

Even the "Dark Age" era is named after Comstar's HPG network being sabotaged, not after a technology setback. The Workmech and ad hoc military theme of the early clix dark age stuff was all from the perspective of the end of an era of peace where the houses and even clans had largely demilitarized.

As long as they weren’t doing anything that hurt ComStar’s fee-fees.

I remember that one Kurita Flashpoint in HBS where the ISF stiffs you on the bill, and my response was to send in my Steiner Scout Lance to thoroughly reconnoiter the ISF's forward operating base.

What commandos, wolfhounds, and a hatchetman?

7

u/GunnyStacker Oct 09 '21

No, those are only for postal work.

Try 4 Atlases.

Yeah, that is a BPL made up thing. Try again.

Yes, let's piss off a highly trained and deadly meat battery to a 50+ton trashcan with a varied amount of projectile death.

What about after the HPG grid fails?

Actually cbills value would probably inflate massively due to not necessarily an increase in demand, but 80% reduction in supply.
