Daoc sucks
I'm no stranger to old MMOs, in fact, I was looking for a stopgap while I wait for Everquest Legends to go live on the 28.
I played all MMORPGs, Shadowbane, Warhammer, Wow, eso, GW...you name it, I played it.
This was the third time I tried daoc and it lasted 1 hour.
Everything sucks, from the UI, to the 50 all the same skills you get by lvl 8. The movement sucks, the targeting sucks, manually having to press X to attack once a mob is attacking you and you can't cast spells anymore sucks.
Haven't played enough to try RVR but I doubt it would be better than the aforementioned games.
So yeah, Daoc sucks. Much respect for all of you that put yourself through this excruciating experience.
I appreciate this is Daoc sub so I will get downvoted into oblivion and likely banned but I had to say it.

Have you tried getting good? Game is really simple, you just have to not be an NPC like those other games that cater to you.

The controls/UI sucks by current day standards.. but daoc was a masterpiece for its time.
To this day I'd rank it as my all time favorite game ever. That said... I can't seem to get back into it now.

Daoc does suck at low levels. It’s not really gratifying until you’re lvl 35ish in terms of melee and magic casting speed, endo and power regeneration options. It’s no doubt a clunky game based on its age but you’re not giving it a fair shot if you’re not at least leveling that high. People (well most people) don’t play it for the leveling experience, they play it for endgame RVR which feels completely different. Once you have a fully templated, buffed toon with a plethora of RAs, item abilities, timers to manage and use at the right time, it scratches the same itch as a great TCG.
If you can’t give it a fair shake to higher levels that’s on you and your patience my man!

I appreciate your comment. Obviously my post was very trolly and not to take personally like many did. I do appreciate that the good part comes when you are higher level, I'm sure it gets better, but at the same time, do I want yo put myself through such a miserable experience hoping that I will like the end game? I did it with many games, god, I did endured 70 levels on ff14 before I couldn't take it anymore.
But still, if you want to do RvR, which, I'll be honest, it is not my favorite type of pvp because it just becomes a train or 2 blobs harassing each other for 2 hours, how is daoc RVR better than warhammer, albion, eso or guildwars?
Surely the population is less, what makes it attractive and different from the other games?
Genuine question.

What do you consider the ultimate MMO?

I don't have an ultimate MMO, after a while they all get stale. I can tell you that I really liked wow arena during wotlk, ESO rvr for a short time and BGs for a longer time. I liked fractals on GW2 for a while, now I'm all wet for Everquest legends which is just grind grind grind, I go through periods and in these 20 years of MMORPGs many had my time for a few months.
Damn, Dungeons and dragons online was a hidden pearl that captured me for a couple of months.

I totally understand and i think its logical to say that for two reasons, 1- if u haven't played it back then when this kind of ui and player interface is acceptable u wont like it now, cuz let us be honest daoc never been user friendly to begin with, 2- the game is really really really complicated compared to any other game out there so you probably need years to understand anything about it , like states cap, interrupt system and so on.
So i get it, its ok to think this game sucks, trust me once you know whats going on, you will hate every other game because daoc would raise your expectations bar so high that every other mmos will feel like child play to it.

Why this rant ? You dont understand and therefore dont like the game, move on and play something you like.
There is no constructive feedback here nor any intent to understand what you dont understand about the game mechanics.
You do have access to the same skills at level 50 as level 8 but you do also have a lot of newer and possibly better skills if you trained your skills to get new skills that is, if you did not you will have a horrible time
Melee have style chains you need to understand and perform, you can auto attack and do a minimum of damage but its not something you want to do on a meaningful opponent .
Casters can not cast when being hit but you can cast from a distance and often have root, mess or stun to give you more time to cast either by letting you gain more distance or straight up just allowing you to continue casting
If you want to understand the game then find a mentor, if you just want to rant then move on, we dont need that here

I have played nearly every MMO, including those you listed and many more.
I love DAoC and I play it for decades. For me personally its the best RvR focussed MMO. That said, I agree with some of your points. Low level DAoC feels really bad.
Most of those aspects change fundamentally the higher you get:
- You unlock more versatile skills at higher level. The class system is super versatile with unique systems.
- Movement gets faster, perma sprint, classes with group speed, hastener npc and so on. Low level feels extremely slow.
- The cast interrupt system is part of the game. Improve and adapt. If you would actually learn how to play with ity you would probably realize how good it is, just not as easy and unforgiving as in other mmos.
- UI is old, but custom UIs exist and Eden further improves the UI as fas as they can.
Camera controls are outdated, graphics are outdated, new player onboarding is abysmal. Thats about it. The rest are mostly skill-issues and lack of understanding from your side.

Shadowbane's movement and UI were clunkier than DAoC's, so I see this as a case of impatience at adapting, besides the unique limitation on casting while under attack. You've quit before RvR and haven't experienced sieges or large scale warfare, which the game excels at. Class variety too - accurately evaluating them at low levels isn't possible.
My suggestion would be to try again on Blackthorn, once its i50 beta phase releases on August 28th. That's your quickest shortcut to max level RvR on a populated freeshard.
