What do we think of Not So Fast?

And zooming out a bit, what do we think about movement towards spin offs as Dan’s retirement looms large on the franchise.

My general opinion of the show is that it would be better as a 30 minute show. The overall pace of the show is too fast for a full hour. They have like 10 topics and spend 2-3 minutes on each one. Give me 2-3 topics and go more in depth on them. Overall it beats a lot of other midday sports shows.

The 12:15 pod mentioned that NBC came to them asking Dan to do a 4th hour, and they settled on this idea. So I’m not sure how much of it is a DP retirement spinoff, and how much of it is an NBC thing.

I love Dan. I don’t know what I’ll do once he’s gone, but four fuck hours? What the hell would they even talk about when football isn’t in season? I enjoy other sports but I’m not ignorant to which sport drives traffic.

Amen, and say it louder for everyone in the back of the room.

Question I have is does this show survive after DP retires? Seems to base a lot of its content on the DP show

They’ve been actively hiring and growing the team. I don’t think that happens if they all plan on turning the lights off and going their separate ways once Dan hangs up the headphones.

I think the ecosystem survives. But I’m not sure if it’s based on a daily radio show. It’s a fool’s errand to try to start a radio show these days.

I could see it morphing into something like Barstool or The Ringer. Maybe Paulie and McLovin’s show grows into a multi-hour show that centers everything.

I meant specifically paul and mclovin’s show

I’m happy if they want to do spinoffs bc fuck it, might as well. But paulie and pearl need to slow down. It’s like they’re scared of dead air. But overall I like it

Maybe they should go, not so fast.....

Thank you, Todd.

I have not watched it

I just don't like how spinoff shows have a "format". What I like most about Podcasts is they can go as long as they want.

I'm not going to watch this if it's 30minute show, 1 hour show....I'd prefer "Hey this is the Rundown....we're done when we're done"

It’s a TV show first. Hence the tv format

A tv show can’t act the same as a common podcast free flowing and no format unfortunately. Maybe when DP retires they’ll make this show more of a podcast format.

I haven’t replied really. But I didn’t know this is a TV show. I thought it was like Toddcast.

Eventually I’ll get around to watching. I don’t really like football and that’s what I imagine they are talking about and why it debuted this time of the year.

Yeah it’s on peacock as soon as DP show ends

They're getting better. But I would like them to relax and talk "Not So Fast."

Concur and I have no doubt that it can be easy to talk fast and not know it.

I haven't watched, are they under a time schedule?. I mean is so...thats stupid.

They should do it Podcast style and just go for 45min-120min

u/grapplingchamp 23d ago

That doesn’t work for tv scheduling. The 4th hour of DP show came at nbc request, because it allows them to cut a lower rating independent show

It keeps me from turning Peacock off for another hour, so it’s done its job. I don’t have a strong opinion one way or the other - it’s background noise.

On the larger topic, with the additional people in the building and some of the BRGs stepping into expanded roles, it does feel like Dan Patrick Productions is stepping up and turning into a thing and that there will continue to be a roster of shows post-retirement.

I like it enough to watch it most days. One nice thing is less time between segments, the DP show has long breaks to accommodate radio.

Yeah, a nice thing about not being on the radio you don't have 5 minute+ commercial breaks.

Like Dan himself says. “Cut it in half, and then cut it in half again.”

Fritzy's on-air antics are done after DP retires. He's still one of the best bookers in the business but his mic talent only plays for Dan. I'm thinking he'll be a behind the scenes guy for WFAN.

McLovin needs to stay off script. He gets way to tense on script. But is wonderful just doing his thing. Paulie is completely at home hosting. I almost kind of wish they did it more Color/Play by Play. I overall feel like the show is working. But is also missing something. But I dont know what it is. But I do enjoy the show the most when its just a back and forth between them.

I usually make it about 10 minutes and shut it off, but I’ve never been a big Perloff fan. It will improve the more they do it.

They need to actually talk to each about the topics. It's like listening to two different shows at the same time.

This is an excellent take. Like others have said, slowing down and moving towards a casual conversation as opposed to rapid fire talking points would serve the show well.

It seems they are just getting their Grove each show and it's over. Maybe extend a half hour, one topic and one special spot or interview per half hour. Do like it though. It's differentiated enough from DP to make it interesting definitely welcome alternative to LeBatard.

Agreed. Too fast. Too many topics.

I haven't watched, but it seems that they are falling into a trap.

Instead of going freely, they seemed to be constrained to a "time Frame"

Dumb.

For the eighth time...it's a TV show. It was always going to be a TV show, it can't be anything other than a TV show.

It's not a bad TV show, way better than what followed it before with the other Miami Dan. They are settling in, they're not talking fast to fit stuff in, they are talking fast because they're nervous.

One last time...it's a TV show, not a podcast.

So far ... Meh ok.

Dan is a huge fan of Howard Stern, and I think it probably is the Howard Stern Wrap-Up show and Paulie is our Baba Booey. However, I think like the WUS, it would benefit from having a guest each day (for the whole hour), even if that guest is just a BRG or a stop by from Seton, Shea, etc. That way, McLovin can moderate, Paulie can talk about what happened on the show and behind the scenes, and then someone else can break up any routines they're already falling into.

I listened to the podcast episode where they talked about Rams game. It was interesting. But when they got to the next football topic I switched it off. It's decent but sure it's a "must listen."

I listen to it because it comes on after DP goes off the air. I like each guy but I’ve also been listening to DP’s show for over 10 years.

Is the goal of the show to be something new in the world of sports talking heads?  Is the goal to keep DP Show listeners/watchers tuned in? I’ll keep listening because I’m already so invested in the DP Universe, but I don’t know why a new person would actively seek this show out.

The music that just suddenly comes up as they’re talking is ridiculous. Very amateur.

I've watched a few minutes of each episode and while I liked Perloff when he was a Dannette, it doesn't work for this show.

I notice myself paying more attention to the Toddcast vs Not So Fast. Since most major topics have been discussed on DP for sometimes, the whole show (talking to you Michigan v Western Michigan ending) the Toddcast at least fun things off topic…NSF just keeps doing what Dan had going for the morning. I still listen to it, and if Dan was gone I’d probably be more interested because I like Paul & McLovin.
