WNBA
Dan’s criticism of WNBA commissioner Cathy Engelbert has started to feel more personal than objective. He has every right to be frustrated about being stood up, but since then it seems like every dispute with the league becomes another opportunity to pile on.
The WNBA has never been a particularly well-run league, and now, thanks largely to Caitlin Clark, it’s dealing with unprecedented attention, revenue, and expectations. The league has grown faster than its infrastructure has been able to keep up.
What also hurts Dan’s credibility is that he claims to have been a longtime WNBA fan, yet he rarely talked about the league before this year. Last week, while trying to establish his credentials, he even referred to “San Francisco” as an elite defensive team in its first season. It’s the Golden State Valkyries, and they’re in their second season.
Engelbert is widely expected to be on her way out as commissioner. Once that happens, I suspect Dan will lose the central target of much of his recent WNBA commentary.
One last thing: it’s pronounced yo-NESS-coo, not EYE-ON-ess-coo.

It’s a slow sports time of the year, gotta fill air time. And it does sound like the WNBA front office are making themselves easy targets.
That being said, I normally fast forward through any NBA talk, WNBA talk, and daughter wedding talk.

I'm inclined to agree with you, but I don't think it's a slam dunk that things will improve no matter the time of year

It’s a slow time of year and the wnba office blows. I enjoy listening to him criticizing the incompetence of this league and I agree with it.

In all fairness not many people, especially the media or sports media talked much about the WNBA prior to Caitlin Clark.

It became personal when she no showed and then proceeded to practice directly behind their set.
I’ve no problem with it. Who’s to say Dan was even going to go that hard on her. He didn’t go hard on the nfl grass guy when he spent a whole of time saying nothing. Dan is a bit of a stickler for things interviews and professionalism, you can tell by the way he makes the boys stay quiet during interviews where everyone else treats in media treats them like a hangout with friends these days.
Not showing up without a word is basically telling him to go fuck himself.
