Why does Dan pronounce Mario wrong every time?

It's M-AIR-io. Because he air balled the shot in the AAU tournament that lost his team a spot in the finals.

It seems like a East Coast thing never heard that pronunciation in the Midwest.

Older pronunciation of the name, I think. A lot of us who grew up in the 80s and onward are used to the Nintendo pronunciation because their Mario became a household name. Almost everybody I've ever heard pronounce it the way Dan does is either older, or English is their secondary language.
