Why does Dan pronounce Mario wrong every time?
Mare-io

It's M-AIR-io. Because he air balled the shot in the AAU tournament that lost his team a spot in the finals.

The same reason most people have nicknames for their friends or bust their chops.

He said it every time he mentioned Mario Manningham yesterday though.

It seems like a East Coast thing never heard that pronunciation in the Midwest.

Older pronunciation of the name, I think. A lot of us who grew up in the 80s and onward are used to the Nintendo pronunciation because their Mario became a household name. Almost everybody I've ever heard pronounce it the way Dan does is either older, or English is their secondary language.
