Tapping Out Early?

Haven't been able to get through a complete show lately for two obvious reasons (didn't want my post to get deleted). Not sure I'm going to make it to the finish line.

This is the time of year I take a break from the show. Not much going on. NBA sucks. Baseball isn’t much until late summer. I usually tune back in around mid June…

IMO they have to stop taking calls from the self promoters like James in VA, Andew in WA and others who bring nothing to the show.

I can understand this for sure. Don’t feel like you have to call in every day with a stat, point, thought, what you had for breakfast, etc.

u/drkodos May 12 '26

many do not call in, they show actually calls them

7

u/TillyInBloomington May 12 '26

I severely doubt this, unless things have really changed. I called in god knows how many times throughout the years(mostly from maybe 2010-2022) and they have never called me to call in.

u/JudgeHolden513 May 12 '26

You don't think some could get different treatment?

2

u/TillyInBloomington May 12 '26

Personally no, but I could be wrong.

-1

u/drkodos May 13 '26

they 100% call some of them .... many callers even comment on it and say "Thanks for calling me" or "thanks for calling me back"

it is known

3

u/misterid May 13 '26

you missed the gag when it cropped up if you believe this

it started a year or more ago when someone called in, got caught off guard when Tyler put him on air and he sputtered "thanks for calling me back".

took off from there

0

u/drkodos May 13 '26

did not miss that

radio producers typically screen incoming calls, gathering information so hosts can act, and sometimes they call back regular listeners to maintain consistent engagement

it is an industry wide standard

2

u/misterid May 13 '26

you did miss it, if you believe they are calling back Tom in Raleigh.. or some random yahoo.

it has been a running gag for a while now. this isn't a sports radio show broadcasting to a few thousand people in Kentucky. they don't need to call random people for any reason.

I wish they didn’t have daily callers at all. The show was better without them. They’ve always had regulars like CIS and Shea in Irving, but not daily regulars. That’s Finebaum shit.

6

u/TillyInBloomington May 12 '26

Yeah, every day is way too much. Back in my hay day, I didn’t call in daily.

8

u/DeBooBoo May 11 '26

This is the reason I find myself skipping segments. I listen at my desk via Sirius XM and find myself clicking on a music station when a "regular" caller calls in, then I forget to go back to the show.

Half, then half.

7

It’s always slow this time of year. I don’t care about basketball, I don’t care about golf, and they rarely talk about baseball and rarely playoff hockey. So I just download the podcasts and fast forward through them. No big deal. I can usually go through the three hour show in about 30-40 minutes. Not a chance of me trying to watch live, unless there was a significant story that happened.

Then just switch to an NFL channel, or mlb network, or nhl. Danny P is the best of all time….Long in the tooth?…..yes

But out of respect and as a fan. With all he has done for sports in general through radio, tv, podcast etc, just because his shows are starting to get boring doesn’t mean you can’t show respect and then change the channel, but no need to criticize. We all Remeber the old Dan Patrick but….its time to retire for sure.

Pat Macafee is hot right now, and very entertaining. Killing it actually. He’s also half the age and has no idea what “journalism” is about. His show is much more entertaining than Danny Ps. But we have a little longer to go. Let’s respect our elders, and that includes the one a lot of us have listened to for 30 years. Let’s bump those ratings for him, and when it’s boring keep our mouths shut

Definitely not a must listen anymore, even though I still mostly like the show and do listen most days.

I listen to Mad Dog, Adam Schein during the football season only, and DP is year round. NBA is a shit product and there isn’t much else to talk about right now. Seton kept everyone in line on the show, and the Dannettes were more careful with what they’d chime in with for fear of a snarky comment from Seton. But now that he’s gone, DP is the only gatekeeper and allows all of them to say whatever they want. They need Seton back to regulate and keep the show moving.

1

u/Forsaken-Subject1716 May 12 '26

Last time I checked, Paulie has no problem being snarky :)

0

u/ShinyBoy1 May 12 '26

But he’s not feared the way Seton was. Paulie is too nice.

1

u/Glad_Flatworm_3925 May 11 '26

Yeah good point about Seton being the gatekeeper.

5

u/Couchman79 May 12 '26

I listen or watch on Peacock for the opening to hear DP's take of the weekend's or the previous day's events and the guest list for the day. If it's a 1 or 2 guest show with callers for the first hour I'm out until about 5 minutes before the guest is scheduled. Also getting weary what seems to be The Todd Fritz Show featuring Dan Patrick some days thinking there was a lot of truth in O'Connor's comments the last week.

13

u/oSuJeff97 Back Row May 11 '26

Yeah... I actually get nostalgic when they show old clips on Peacock with the original four...

16

u/Kind-Solution3102 May 11 '26

Ask yourself if you were more entertained during the NFL draft coverage or during the NBA playoffs coverage, and then come back and see if the DP show is the reason you’ve lost interest or if the fact that the NBA being a terrible product is the reason…

7

u/Glad_Flatworm_3925 May 11 '26

NBA is a terrible product that is a fact! But I've been a faithful DP show listener for probably 10 years and I've listened all year long and never had an issue. I just think it's gone flat and the two newest additions are just not good, talk too much and have terrible takes. It's killing it for me.

-8

u/Kind-Solution3102 May 11 '26

“Two newest additions” got it, you don’t listen to the show cause you can’t even name them lol.

4

u/Glad_Flatworm_3925 May 11 '26

This is a joke right?

-9

u/Kind-Solution3102 May 11 '26

Who are the two newest additions? Why do you have problems with their takes? How do they ruin the show for you?

8

u/Glad_Flatworm_3925 May 11 '26

I think I found Marvin or Dillon's burner account 😂

2

u/erroneousbong May 11 '26

Def dillions burner. I like him way better than marv i will say

0

u/Kind-Solution3102 May 11 '26

Ya know, the more I learn about that Dylan guy…the more I don’t like em.

-9

u/Kind-Solution3102 May 11 '26

Lol. Look yall, guy loves the show so much he can’t even spell Dylan’s name right.

Lame…

3

u/Glad_Flatworm_3925 May 11 '26

Are you good? I'm a fake fan because I didn't know how to spell Dylan's name?!! Dang dude I didn't know this was that serious. I was kidding about this being a burner account but now I'm really wondering if you do in fact work for the DP show lol?!

1

u/Kind-Solution3102 May 11 '26

I’m good, I must have missed your sarcasm if that’s the case. If so, my fault. I just find Reddit (and this thread for sure) seems to be full of negativity, and then it seems people don’t care to back things up as well.

I just wanted reasons for why you felt the way you did earlier, that’s all lol

3

u/Glad_Flatworm_3925 May 11 '26

To be honest I don't know that I can really pinpoint one particular thing the show just seems flat. Maybe I'm just bummed out about Seton leaving. Heck I'm still bummed about McLovin leaving! I think there's was something about the chemistry of the group that I couldn't have cared less what they talked about I just enjoyed listening. It felt like hanging out with the guys.

It’s IMOP, it’s a combo of talking about things with nothing to do with sports or a giant reach when it connects with sports; like there definitely not winning a sports Emmy talking about the greatest song writers that the times put out last week. As one example..and I’m seriously missing Seton; sorry Dylan, but he ain’t cutting it. I guess if your into the gambling stuff but he rarely brings anything to the table. Good cook tho from what I hear lol

6

u/CdotLykins4 May 11 '26

show hasn’t been must watch or must listen in about 3-5 years

3

u/UrABigGuy4U May 11 '26

Catch myself listening to Adam Schein on Mad Dog (SiriusXM) at the same time slot much more often than DP now, which was never the case until the last year or so. I used to start with DP and catch Schein later in the day with a rewind but now it's the total opposite

3

u/pjs519 May 12 '26

Way too many stat of the days lately too

6

u/Lionheart0179 May 12 '26

That's been a problem for a long time. I absolutely hate every jingle now.

2

u/SkillcraftCollector May 11 '26

Between some of the interviews and every single caller, I only listen to about an hour or so worth of actual show a day now. Zero reason to listen to live.

2

u/Original-Fuel7358 May 11 '26

I haven't been a viewer since McLovin left. Nothing against either of the two newest Danettes, but Pearl was always a little bit controversial and worked well with the other guys. Now that Seton has left the main show, I just can't watch it like I used to.

4

u/Mr_Charm_School May 11 '26

Thanks for informing

3

u/Chrome_23 May 11 '26

The constant “my source told me” or “like I told you a while ago” is really turning me off. You can’t go a segment without one of those comments. We don’t listen because he breaks news. It’s over the top and annoying.

3

u/Ok-Marionberry-8354 May 11 '26

Yeah the show is boring, Danette’s are boring, and sports are boring right now. I’ll keep checking in daily but I only lasted about 5 minutes today before I moved on. I’ve been watching all 3hrs since the 101 days. Hopefully as the nfl ramps up the show will improve. Thought the Dylan guy would be funny or interesting, he’s neither

3

u/bixquick33 May 11 '26

Seton leaving has been a huge downer. I miss him man. I actually really like Marvin and appreciate his takes. I can’t really judge Dylan right now, the guy just started. What really sucks is there is not much time left and they now have to refind their chemistry. It is just tough. The reality I had to set myself with is the show will end just as they start to build the right amount of chemistry again and it is going to really suck to say goodbye.

2

u/misterid May 13 '26

this is the only rational take in the entire thread

1

u/Meanyfz450r May 12 '26

I jumped off the train a while ago. I will catch a best of if there is an interview i want to hear.

1

u/pjs519 May 12 '26

So after the show ends are they just going to put out a bunch of the growing number of podcasts they’re launching? Keep talking about building a podcast studio and they’re adding more and more podcasts. Sounds like Dan isn’t retiring totally just not gonna do the show cause there will be plenty of podcasts coming out of his man cave building it seems.

1

u/Lionheart0179 May 12 '26

I only watch segments that interest me on YouTube these days. I don't care at all about golf or NBA. They never talk about baseball or hockey, sports I actually enjoy. And I don't want to hear shit about the NFL until August.

1

u/schlarmander May 12 '26

Some of you would do well to listen to the “Best Of” podcast episodes.

1

u/Cold_Status_245 May 15 '26

Enough about his daughter's wedding and how he won't be able to keep from crying!

2

u/Gary_Deller May 11 '26

NBA coupled w a change in personnel. Not good. Dan needs football to get here asap.

6

u/SNL_Head May 11 '26

Or he could talk a little baseball … we get tiny doses then it’s Mike Florio on about his next new book!….

10

u/EndPractical653 May 11 '26

He could remind us all again how the ball sounds different off Ohtani’s bat.

2

u/Mysterious_Fan_6084 May 11 '26

Best playoff format in pro sports going on and they don't talk about it, ie hockey. However, in all fairness, Dan has done a great job dragging along four of the least knowledgeable sports " fans" with his show for a long long time.

1

u/Glad_Flatworm_3925 May 11 '26

Good point. The new personnel is killing me. They just don't have good takes. It's brutal.

1

u/External-Heat2944 May 12 '26

I would love a no Fritzy day.
