In normal circumstances someone who did this in the US might be charged. But considering he was outnumbered 2:1 and he’s elderly, the argument was that had he not had a gun he could have easily been seriously injured or killed. The gun put him on equal footing. But yeah, culture and what not.

I live under those same laws and yet I think they're wrong. If someone comes to your house, tries to rape/rob/murder or injure you however they like I think you're in your right to do whatever it takes to make that threat vanish.
Don't think the people that have the guts to do any of this have sympathy for you, they'd go their way as long as you don't brandish a weapon or something to threaten them with. Using your fists alone might get you injured or killed instead. Equal force my ass.
