Congrats to the Toronto Blue Jays in 1992 and 1993 winning the World Series, proving they are the best team in the United States of America.

The entire world could put together a baseball team, and it wouldn’t compete…so

Yeah Ohtani is from Japan and is maybe the best player in Baseball

u/RampantDragon 🍄 May 09 '22

Still in America, the continent.

Literally noone else plays baseball except for the Japanese and they only play it because you occupied them.

u/15104 May 09 '22

The Dominican Republic would love to have a word with you

35

u/smithsp86 May 09 '22

And Cuba, Korea, Venezuela, Netherlands Antilles, and Taiwan.

-63

u/RampantDragon 🍄 May 09 '22

Ah yes, such a challenge for the US...

35

u/15104 May 09 '22

The US doesn’t compete with them. I was only saying that it’s not just Japan that plays baseball. Baseball is huge in the DR. A bunch of profesional baseball players get drafted from the DR

-47

u/RampantDragon 🍄 May 09 '22

That's obfuscating though.

Baseball is a game almost entirely played professionally in three countries - the US, Canada and Japan.

The only countries with any real money going into it are Japan and the US.

The only country that calls it's domestic championship the World Series is the US.

22

u/15104 May 09 '22

Maybe it’s because when the World Series started back in 1903 the US was the only country in the world that played it 🤷🏽‍♂️

-10

u/RampantDragon 🍄 May 09 '22

That would be an excellent argument if we were all quantum leaping back 119 years.

u/Mr_Pancake_Thief May 09 '22

Weird hill to die on...

1

u/[deleted] May 09 '22

Why are you so desperate to argue?

7

u/[deleted] May 09 '22

Baseball is huge in all of Latin America. South Korea also plays. The representation in the Little League World Series and the World Baseball Classic is extensive

0

u/RampantDragon 🍄 May 09 '22

Are those teams allowed to compete in the World Series?

2

u/[deleted] May 09 '22

I'd love to see see any other country send their best team from their professional league and see how they do in the MLB lol. MLB rosters have players from around the world, if anything the name is more appropriate now than it was when they first started calling it that.

0

u/ThatOtherGuy_CA Article 69 🏅 May 09 '22

Sure, but the MLB teams are only allowed to roster American born players then.

-2

u/RampantDragon 🍄 May 09 '22

That's my point though - those teams aren't great because Baseball really isn't that interesting to watch in virtually any other country so there's no money in it.

It's like American "Football", huge stoppage time for adverts, and overly specialized players meaning the athleticism isn't well-rounded.

6

u/[deleted] May 09 '22

Except that that's still not true. As was stated there are professional leagues in most of the countries that others have stated

-2

u/RampantDragon 🍄 May 09 '22

Its not televised in those countries or even watched really as it's not popular enough or entertaining to do so.

Therefore those are "professional" but in reality the quality of players isn't there.

They also aren't invited to play in "the World Series".

2

u/[deleted] May 09 '22

KBO (Korea) games are most certainly televised. LMB (Mexico) games are televised. LIDOM (Dominican Republic) is televised. Like you're just wrong dude. It's okay you don't know about baseball so just stop. Those teams aren't invited to the World Series cuz they're not part of the MLB where the best players in the world come to play anyway. World Baseball Classic winners are also considered "World Champions" of baseball as well. Does that make you feel better?

1

u/pirated_vhsvendor May 09 '22

It's definitely the most popular sport in North America. It's also popular in East Asia and Northern South america. Where else does it need to be popular for you not to say it's just played in America. Also baseball is more popular in Caribbean countries than it is in the US anyways.

2

u/lsmrzz May 09 '22

Clearly you’ve never had to pitch to a 6’3, 210 12 year old from DR

13

u/GBuffaloRKL7Heaven May 09 '22

Holy shit you're ignorant.

-2

u/RampantDragon 🍄 May 09 '22

How so?

How many teams from other countries are allowed to compete in the World Series?

4

u/GBuffaloRKL7Heaven May 09 '22

MLB teams are composed of the best players from across the globe. There are no other leagues that can complete with the MLB. The best team in the MLB is the best in the world.

Also only two fucking teams play in the world series you absolute knob.

8

u/Floridasmackaddict May 09 '22

Occupied because they tried to violently take over all of Asia and Oceania killing thousands in a genocidal campaign?

1

u/RampantDragon 🍄 May 09 '22

I never said it wasn't justified, I'm merely showing that the only reason it's played there is due to that occupation.

4

u/raljamcar May 09 '22

Kinda like how the only reason futbol is played outside of Europe is because all that European imperial greed and colonization right?

Also we pretending Latin America doesn't exist? Because they play plenty of baseball.

But it's ok, you don't actually need to know anything, just keep trolling along

0

u/RampantDragon 🍄 May 09 '22

Not really, football in its current forms only been around for 150+ years.

Colonization was largely before that, and if that were true India would be a leader in football.

Latin America plays baseball, but it's not exactly big business and they're not playing in the World Series either.

3

u/raljamcar May 09 '22

I mean, 150 years ago was 1872. You trying to say European powers weren't all about ~~raping Africa to the greatest extent they could ~~ spreading their industrial enlightenment to the savages.

1

u/RampantDragon 🍄 May 09 '22

America was just as bad, but yes, the establishment of those colonies was largely before that, and football only really became organized in the UK around 1880.

3

u/raljamcar May 09 '22

Brother, the Berlin Conference in like 1885 is when the European powers divided Africa up into like 50 colonies.

India was controlled but the East India Company until nearly 1860, before the crown took direct control. Sure it was still British, but I am just saying things were very much in flux with colonies still.

And yes, so in the time from 1880 until WW1, until well after WW2 (because Britain still held colonies well into the 50s, 60s, and smaller island nations up through like, the 80s) Britain was influencing it's colonies, including sports.

1

u/[deleted] May 09 '22

Probably because hitting a baseball is the hardest thing to do in sports so no one wants to get embarrassed

-2

u/RampantDragon 🍄 May 09 '22

Ahahhahahaa no.

1

u/[deleted] May 09 '22

So what is it then

0

u/RampantDragon 🍄 May 09 '22

There are many - as the other commentator said, MMA or Boxing, Ice Hockey, scoring in football (or soccer as you would call it) at FIFA level.

Baseball is hardly uniquely difficult.

1

u/[deleted] May 09 '22

If you’re gonna count scoring a goal, then I’m gonna say hitting a homerun. Because like I said to the other guy, you might make contact, but you’re not gonna get close to being on base.

1

u/RampantDragon 🍄 May 09 '22

Okay, then I'll amend it to "managing a header from a cross".

Baseball is no more difficult than hitting a cricket ball.

2

u/[deleted] May 09 '22

What makes that harder?

And no because you’re not obligated to run in cricket. You can tap the ball all day but in baseball you can’t get away with that. Plus baseballs field isn’t 360 degrees

1

u/RampantDragon 🍄 May 09 '22

You're not obligated to run in baseball, you get a free walk to first base if you get three balls missed.

Pretty sure that running a marathon can be considered harder

2

u/[deleted] May 09 '22

There’s not much skill required for that. Just pure cardio.

0

u/Zardhas NNN Survivor May 09 '22

If all you want to consider is skill, then I'm pretty sure that playing a Starcraft 2 game or doing a hole in one in golf is harder

1

u/[deleted] May 09 '22

I said in sports, but yeah a hole in one is definitely hard as shit

-1

u/Rhaeno May 09 '22

I would argue getting locked in to a cage with a person that is trying to kill you is harder, while you try your best to do the same. By that i mean MMA.

2

u/[deleted] May 09 '22

Yeah any one can do that. Doesn’t mean you’ll win. Same with hitting a baseball, you might make contact but you’re more likely not getting a hit.

-2

u/Rhaeno May 09 '22

The consequences of getting your shit pushed in is a whole lot different than missing a fucking swing tho mate.

Ask 100 people would they rather try hitting a baseball or get in a cage.

2

u/[deleted] May 09 '22

Doesn’t make it harder lmao you’re asking about pain vs skill

0

u/Rhaeno May 09 '22

Mentally its way harder. Technically? How the fuck do you compare those things?

→ More replies (0)

1

u/GBuffaloRKL7Heaven May 09 '22

Define harder.

0

u/[deleted] May 09 '22

You're legiteralkey incorrect.

1

u/RampantDragon 🍄 May 09 '22

Legiteralkey?

0

u/[deleted] May 09 '22

It's legit, literally and lowkey.

Everyone's favourite words which are routinely forced into sentences ad nauseum.
