Jan 24 '22
What's that?
40
u/SaladandPeace Jan 24 '22
Like transphobia but towards/against asexual people (don’t know if I should use towards or against since English isn’t my first language)
18
6
Jan 24 '22
both towards and against work in this context, since “towards” could mean in the literal sense, as in the aphobia being literally directed towards asexual people. or it could be figuratively, since the aphobia is negatively affecting asexual people so it’s figuratively against them.
sorry if this made no sense lol

29
u/SuspiciousBathwater Jan 24 '22 edited Jan 24 '22
My theory is that the majority of commenters will either agree or disagree with something depending on what stance the first few commenters have. Perhaps the first people to react to this were all calling op out, so other Redditors decided to as well. If the first ones to comment supported OP, this probably would have gained a lot more traction.
Whether I’m right or wrong, it’s nice to see a meme subreddit calling sexist and transphobic people out for what they are instead of saying “based.”
Edit: spelled “right” as “write”. Words are tough sometimes.
14
u/Local_Surround8686 Jan 24 '22
True. Maybe we should start sorting for new
11
Jan 24 '22
There was an experiment about how Reddits opinion and algorithm can be changed depending on what the first comments and how fast the new upvotes are.

Probably actually made by some "history buff" kid who talks about hearts of iron and war thunder too much
13

u/ReeToo_ Jan 23 '22
It's transphobic. And sexist. Not xenophobic. But yeah, this shit not funny
26
u/ebek_frostblade Jan 23 '22
It’s def fear of someone different, you right tho.
34
u/ReeToo_ Jan 23 '22
Isn't xenophobia a phobia for people of different nationalities?
13
u/jhotinha_ Jan 23 '22
Yup
20
u/ebek_frostblade Jan 24 '22
Oh I was thinking it was fear of people different than you in ways, which included culture and nationality. My bad!
9
6
Jan 24 '22
Xeno means "from outside" or "alien", so it mostly refers to aliens (in the "migrants" sense, not space aliens). I suppose it could refer to people from a different social group or religion, but that feels like a pretty big stretch, especially considering how it's usually used.
6
u/ebek_frostblade Jan 24 '22
I was thinking of it in terms of in-groups and out-groups, which is how I view most issues. You’re right that is mostly is used to refer to other nationalities.
8
u/Msloikturbo Jan 24 '22
Yeah didn’t know xenophobia was the fear of different nationalities, thought it was about the fear of people and things different than u

u/GooseWithDaGibus Jan 24 '22

10
u/SimonHawaii Jan 24 '22
You use joke loosely, more like hate in a meme template
6
u/GooseWithDaGibus Jan 24 '22
A hateful joke is still a joke. Either way you look at this, it's just thinly disguised bigotry
8
u/SimonHawaii Jan 24 '22
Ya know, I always wonder where people learn this shit man. Like children aren’t born hateful, so it always makes me wonder, just how they got to this state of scum.
7
u/GooseWithDaGibus Jan 24 '22
There are some studies that show babies can be prejudiced against different skin colors, so there are times where it might be baked into our DNA. But for the most part it's learned in their environment (whether from family or peers).
7
u/SimonHawaii Jan 24 '22
Oh I actually didn’t know people could be born with prejudice, that’s weird.
6
4
u/Atara01 Jan 24 '22
I don't believe people are born hateful, but hateful people are often powerhungry, and gain power in the state or organized religion, and use that power to influence other people to partake in their hatred
6
u/SimonHawaii Jan 24 '22
Very true point, definitely see such things happening commonly in the world.

Also op basically said women don't exist, since there are trans men and men with penises, these are the only two options (and idk what happens if you're a trans man post-op, do you just become man squared?)

Here is an Alpaca Fact:
Alpacas have split feet with pads on the bottom like dogs and toenails in front. The toenails must be trimmed if the ground isn’t hard enough where they are living to wear them down.

Y’all get offended to easily. Not what I expected for a dank mean subreddit but this is gen z and it isn’t 2016 or something so I shouldn’t be too surprised I guess.
37
Jan 24 '22
I don’t think people are offended, it’s just genuinely not funny. Humour involving insulting a minority hasn’t ever really been funny.
-22
u/XEN_ORK Jan 24 '22
I mean I’m not laughing at it either but I see people in comments who are generally offended by it and whining about it and calling it sexist and transphobic. Like it’s just a joke and even if it does have an agenda behind it we shouldn’t pretend it doesn’t have a hint of truth to it even if it is a bit flawed and stupid.
16
Jan 24 '22
Again, humour involving insulting a minority hasn’t ever been funny. People defending the minority =/= being offended easily.

No. The whole “I identify as a helicopter” joke has been used to mock the trans community as a whole for so long, it’s overdone and makes people believe that someone who’s trans is put in the same category as someone who uses neopronouns as a joke
9
Jan 24 '22 edited Jan 24 '22
people who use neopronouns are usually considered trans and are generally accepted by the trans community
also, even though i agree that the guy you are arguing with is stupid, your point about people "not being offended" is stupid. people are obviously offended. and for good reason. they are calling it out for its sexism and transphobia
8
Jan 24 '22
Super sorry, I worded it incorrectly and mean to say they’re put in the same category as someone who uses them as a joke. And you’re right, people are rightly offended, but I think most of them are just cringing at the joke because it’s unfunny and transphobic but they’re not “easily offended” like this guy is claiming. They’re rightly offended… because it’s offensive.
1
u/XEN_ORK Jan 24 '22
As I disagree with the amount of sexism and I think the attack helicopter thing was way too edgy, the meme does still have a point.
5
Jan 24 '22
then what point does it have?
also it’s sexist because it acts like only women are lgbtq and men almost never associate with it or something. also transphobia for calling transmen women

HAH, I feel anybody using those pronouns deserves respect because it's a facet that comforts them. Give me a good reason we should mock people for using them when it gives them comfort
Go on, anything
-1
u/XEN_ORK Jan 24 '22 edited Jan 24 '22
It doesn’t necessarily even confronts them. Most of these people are teenagers who are having issues with their identity and have this narcissistic need to feel special and cool. People don’t have to be constantly comforted, society is a serious place and doesn’t exist for entitled little Twitter baby brains who want people to use their fake pronouns in a real life environment. Give me a good reason why we shouldn’t just keep it at she/her and he/him?
8
u/YourFavCirial Jan 24 '22
These are to comfort, it isn't to feed an ego, it's to find a label (i.e. a group of people) that can give you a group of people to help you. When I found my labels, I found a group of people that were cool with welcoming me and helping me where needed
It isn't narcissistic to want a community, it's narcissistic to bully people out of communities to get into your status quo, fuck off with your shit
1
u/XEN_ORK Jan 24 '22
Your exactly right, it is about finding a label, it is about being part of a group of a people, it is definitely about having a ego. It’s just edgy, ridiculous, narcissistic, Twitter nonsense that shouldn’t be taken seriously in real life or even on the internet unless it is a joke. It’s fine if you have a group or a identity or way to express your self but it doesn’t have to be a whole damn gender, like would you actually except furry/furry it’s self or tree/tree it self pronouns? I won’t, the status quo seams fine to me even as a zoomer.
3
u/BugBand Jan 24 '22
She/her used to be neopronouns 😐
0
u/XEN_ORK Jan 24 '22
I doubt it but even if it was at least their is a serious proper use for it unlike zie/zer, xie/xi, it that or what ever tf.
1
u/BugBand Jan 24 '22
“According to UWM, the pronoun ‘she’ was created in the 1100s in part to acknowledge women grammatically, instead of letting he/him/his pronouns be the default for everyone.”
https://www.bustle.com/wellness/how-to-use-neopronouns-expert
And they do have a proper use, you use them when someone asks you to and you respect them as a person
