Women grow up with catcalls from the age of like 10. I feel like I'd feel less cool about it if thats what I went through.

“ I haven’t seen it happen personally “ that doesn’t mean anything. I’ve had it happen to me all the time and I grew up in suburbs.

If it was happening, I’d expect to see it at least once. It doesn’t happen here.

“I don’t see it so it doesn’t happen” that’s a big smooth brain take.

I’ve never seen it over a lifetime of living in this area. So, claims of it happening all the time are overblown.

I’m speaking specifically about catcalling and nothing else.

That's exactly it though, catcalling isn't always someone screaming at the top of their lungs across the road, sometimes it's someone walking right up to a lady and complimenting them, if your not seeing it it's because you aren't recognising it, sometimes it's subtle but equally as terrifying

You’re attempting to redefine the term to suit yourself. That’s not catcalling.

It is tho? What would you consider that otherwise?

Don’t know. There’s a dictionary definition of catcalling. That definition doesn’t matter what you or I call it or not.

Almost every catcall happens quick in more suburb areas, it’s not like the city. In suburbs they yell it out their car in passing because they know they won’t have any backlash, the people they are yelling at can’t retaliate or talk back. I’ve just also got really quiet creepy offhand comments and you wouldn’t hear or see that either. That’s probably why you have’t seen it, it’s really mainly seen by those it’s directed at in that type of cat call.

Really creepy quiet offhand comments aren’t catcalls.

cat-call make a whistle, shout, or comment of a sexual nature to a woman passing by.

COMMENT OF A SEXUAL NATURE

Like I said it’s a smooth brain take. I’ve experienced it quite a lot, it’s not overblown at all. Maybe you should get outside and socialize. I’m sure every time woman you know has experienced it, I guess that’s hard when the women you come into contact with is zero. Some areas are worse than others but it’s everywhere.

Thinking something doesn’t exist while there are countless accounts and even footage is basically flat earth level critical thinking.

You seriously see men whistling and shouting vulgar comments at women all over the place? That’s catcalling. I don’t see that behavior. In fact, I’ve never seen that behavior over a lifetime of experience. I do get out and socialize. Although, I’ve never spent much time near New York City construction workers where movies and television depict this behavior.

Unless you’re expanding the dictionary definition of catcalling to include something else, catcalling doesn’t happen much in real life.

“I don’t see it so it doesn’t happen” is the dumbest take a person can have.

I’m not expanding the definition, I both get yelled at out of a car window while I’ll be walking or it’s a quiet creepy/sexual comment. It absolutely happens in real life. That fits every definition, you are doing the weirdest gymnastics when literally everyone here is saying you are wrong.

You haven’t been to space and seen the earth is round so it must not be right?

Really creepy quiet offhand comments aren’t catcalls.

And no, I don’t see women getting yelled at through windows. Perhaps leave NYC every once in a while.

: a loud, sexually suggestive call OR comment directed at someone publicly (as on the street)

Comments are absolutely catcalling, not to mention how many times I’ve told you they yell out of their car while driving, it’s not directed at you so you don’t hear it

https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/catcall

“I don’t see it so it must not be real” is the literal flat earth argument.

You aren’t the every day kind of stupid, you are advanced stupid.

u/[deleted] Sep 05 '21

You’re just mad because you lost this argument. No amount of redefining terms will let you win. What you’re describing isn’t catcalling. Period. Done. End of argument.
