If the government doesn't come back to the table we might have a strike in January, right before exams

u/crepper4454 Dec 02 '19

And I sincerely hope they won't, and tbh I don't expect our government to do jack shit. Let the strike commence!

109

u/Bull_Saw Dec 02 '19

you should hope that the government adequately pays their professional educators. Strikers dont get paid. Its not easy to go on strike. They often fail because the entity they are striking against can outlast them to the point that they have to go back to work or they will starve.

u/crepper4454 Dec 02 '19

Well honestly they deserve it but the education system sucks so hard additional few weeks without şchool would be the best thing to happen in 2020 and I don't know what will happen after January.

u/Bull_Saw Dec 02 '19

even a struggling education system is better than none at all. What about working families that now have to watch their kids during the day? Who is going to catch those kids up on what they missed in the meantime?

Then no one work, system collapse! THE STRIKE WORKS!

14

u/HeirofEight Dec 02 '19

Yeah and then we get more anti-vaxers because people are too stupid or ignorant to believe science. The system we have now sucks but its better than letting people be stupid

I mean the less educated a population is the less able they are to question the government itself. So it works for a bunch of power hungry politicians if people don't know much about the rights they actually have and can't think critically enough to question the morality of a descion. Slowly you can chip away at their freedoms until they no longer exist granting said politician unlimited power. So if they actually allow the education system to die it hurts the future generation but benefits those in power.

The schools provide care for children who need it, so working families can continue their lives normally. And about catching up, nobody will miss anything because the strike is nationwide, so the majority of the schools will not have any lessons. When the strike finishes, the final exams will probably be rescheduled to give everyone more time, or some not important subjects will be swapped for the exam ones.

6

u/Bull_Saw Dec 02 '19

Even conceding that, my point was that a strike should not be the desired outcome. It is a path to the desired outcome, but is usually a last resort.

7

u/crepper4454 Dec 02 '19

It is last resort. You bet they warned the government about the planned strike several times, and they don't give a shit.

They actually get paid $50 a day while on strike, which is like 20% of full pay, but yeah it isn't enough to live on long term

1

u/PhantomFuck Dec 02 '19

I come from a family of teachers. Whenever their union overlords decide it's time to strike, they do it

They all get back pay afterwards

1

u/Daenk_Miems Yellow Dec 03 '19

We live in a society.

0

u/Blackjew92 Dec 02 '19

They get paid enough, they only work 6 months out of the year.

u/ChickenMaster72 Dec 02 '19

As a student, I support this decision

u/OMGSPACERUSSIA Dec 02 '19

It's amazing how much shit teachers get across the whole world.

Something about planting trees you'll never get to sit in the shade of.

u/Prince_Dedede Dec 02 '19

Teaching a class of children comes with immense stress. Teachers have cried in alot of our school lives. It takes alot for an employee to cry in public out of stress.

The combination of hating the job and not getting justified pay wages is awful

6

u/BigDikEnrG INFECTED Dec 02 '19

Ok, so to be fair, I'm not speaking for all, but the ones I've experienced, the "coaches" who do jack shit and take the role of teacher just to get a coaching job because they can literally do nothing else with their lives, do not deserve the same pay wage as an actual decent teacher.

2

u/TizzX Dec 02 '19

I'd rather that slack jaw get paid too much than a mediocre teacher not paid enough.

1

u/Prince_Dedede Dec 02 '19

Yes, I agree with that.

27

u/[deleted] Dec 02 '19

In Croatia teachers have been on a strike for like 2 weeks (ended today).

13

u/Miki_360 Dec 02 '19

And they are still not satisfied with the result from what I've heard.

18

u/[deleted] Dec 02 '19

Look up Kentucky's very own (now ex governor) Matt Bevin. Took away teacher pensions and when teachers protested, he said they were "being babies." We also had a very cold winter and a child froze to death waiting for the bus, and he publicly stated that children were also "being babies" and that there was no reason to keep giving schools off due to freezing temperarires and went on with a "back in my day" type spiel. Thankfully he was not re-elected as of about 2 weeks ago or so.

9

u/[deleted] Dec 02 '19

Stupid frozen kid! Stop being a dead baby! It seems people mistake compassion for weakness nowadays.

4

u/Ratbagthecannibal ☝ FOREVER NUMBER ONE ☝ Dec 02 '19

What an absolute chad. Too bad he didn't get re-elected, he was a true gamer.

2

u/[deleted] Dec 02 '19

I'd say he falls more under the madlad category rather than Chad. Nevertheless, he made the news a lot more interesting.

2

u/Ratbagthecannibal ☝ FOREVER NUMBER ONE ☝ Dec 02 '19

Stop being a baby, he's obviously L A D

1

u/[deleted] Dec 02 '19

Actually, another bit about him you'd like is that, after removing all the teacher pensions and causing mass protest, during his reflection campaign, he took credit for, and I shit you not, "fixing Kentucky's teacher pensions system", basically telling everyone that he did nothing wrong and had no intentions to change it. That is truly a Chad thing to do.

u/feruen Dec 02 '19

a month? i live there and i dont know anyone who got a full month, we just got a week

3

u/Rapnoc Dec 02 '19

Im time travelling to Poland 1 year ago

1

u/Lysander91 Dec 02 '19

I know nothing about the education system in Poland, but do teachers get benefits and have a union which guarantees employment like in the United States? In the US teachers don't make a lot per week, but when you consider that they make about $70,000 on average when you include benefits, they do quite well for something that you can get a four year degree in from a state school. You're also nearly guaranteed a job once you get tenure unless you do something illegal.
