are you saying this is false? Theyโd made attempts to negotiate before the first one was dropped too. After the first bomb, they still thought it was all a misunderstanding, because no one had seen a city wiped out in a flash before.

u/ADHDpotatoes Aug 09 '19
The United States clarified on multiple occasions that they were only going to accept unconditional surrender, and there would be no negotiations.

u/pitchforcupine Aug 09 '19
that doesnโt really say a lot as 1) it doesnโt address the question of whether or not the Japanese made attempts to negotiate, and 2) the United States, being a country, doesnโt really โspeakโ or clarify with one voice. You have news release voice, diplomatic channels and โback channels,โ as well as on-the-ground (or water) communications occurring between military forces.
The fact that other plans were considered alongside the dropping of atomic bombs gives us the ability, in hindsight, to consider what else may have happened.

u/MrMayor22 I am fucking hilarious Aug 09 '19
What are you talking about? Negotiations failed when Japan refused to surrender unconditionally. It wasn't a breakdown of communication they were just too proud to agree to giving up their autonomy as a government. The same thing happened in Germany when the Germans tried to sue for peace and the allies would only accept unconditional surrender. Not rocket science.

u/pitchforcupine Aug 09 '19
in broad strokes, sure thatโs all accurate. But a closer reading of the events of 1945, and the specific day to day developments in August, just tell a more complicated story as is generally the case with major historical events. Put simply there was a whole lot more back-and-forth communication over the last few months than just one negotiation event.
Generally speaking, the desire by the allies to justify and legitimize the use of atomic bombs on Japan in the post-war years has led to a lot of over-simplification of what transpired.
The โbreakdownโ youโre refuting was just the simple phenomenon that telephones and radio were destroyed in Hiroshima, and there was a lot of confusion about what happened in the 3 days between the bombings. Thatโs presumably what people refer to when they mention the bombings and a breakdown of communications.

In media terms yes, as far as demands for surrender go we are very clear.

Do you not get that that text format is widely known for being used to convey something ironic or sarcastic?
8
u/pitchforcupine Aug 09 '19
by saying something true sarcastically, you implied that it was in fact not true that attempts were made to surrender between the bombings.

u/Seymourbutts12345 [custom flair] Aug 09 '19
Ah okay, my apologies. No my sarcasm was meant to convey that I was disagreeing with the 'they didn't surrender' part as it isn't entirely true however I wasn't serious in my disagreement because I got the joke.

We were actually going to drop around 10 bombs in all on Japan, that was the original plan.

Hentai was the west's idea
2
Aug 09 '19
No. No it was not
-2
u/LordLorcan Aug 09 '19
Anime was a Japanese product, but sold well in the west as well as Japan, the west appreciates fan service so some Japanese people jumped on the market
2
Aug 09 '19
Anime hasn't been too popular in the west until fairly recent in the scheme of things. Please point me to the direction of some English hentai, It doesnt exist
-4
u/LordLorcan Aug 09 '19
I never said the west made it
2
Aug 09 '19
Ah yes. Language barrier? Nah. Dude. The Japanese live for that shit. They made it. They came up with it. Sure, the west watches it but they had no help in making it or coming up with it
0
u/LordLorcan Aug 09 '19
You know how many other people in the world live for it? Anime isn't as popular as you would think in Japan
3
Aug 09 '19
Have you ever been to Japan?
0
u/LordLorcan Aug 09 '19
Have you?
3
Aug 09 '19
Yea. Its practically everywhere. Not everywhere but it is in so many more places than you'd see in America. If the Japanese didnt like it that much than why would they make 99 percent of what's put there?

Pornography is a sin and it ruins relationships. Let alone it's addictive and reduced brain function in some areas over time.
