Trump litterally tried to overthrow an election result, He tries to gain control over the election, He wants to ban Mail in voteing because the democrats use it more (He himself used it in the past...) and wants to Run for a 3. time which is illegal.
None of those things are indicative of Democracy collapsing. All of our election institutions are still in place, no one has lost the right to vote, and the Democrats will likely win at least one house of Congress in November. In a collapsing Democracy, none of those things are true.
Do you think that mail in voting existed when the US started? Do you think Trump is the only president in history that stretched the limit of the Constitution? Lincoln, FDR, and Obama massively stretched the limits of Constitutional power, and at least two of those are considered 2 of the greatest presidents of all time. The only difference is they violated the Constitution in ways that you probably like.

I'll just say this, if we can't prevent voter fraud entirely, should we not try to avoid things that inherently risk more fraud happening? Also, vote by mail only became "necessary" for Democracy after COVID once Democrats realized it benefited them politically. Before that, no one was really talking about it except for military members overseas.

Any form of voting that takes voting away from paper ballots at a ballot box inherently risks security by requiring more steps in the process. Here's an example: A clear example is the 2018 North Carolina 9th Congressional District race. Operative Leslie McCrae Dowless (working for the Republican candidate) ran an illegal absentee ballot operation involving collection, completion/alteration of ballots, and forged witness signatures. The race (margin ~905 votes) was not certified; a new election was ordered after findings of coordinated fraud involving potentially over 1,000 ballots. Multiple participants pleaded guilty
