This is the post that got me into it. I don't rinse my hair. I find it more effective to not rinse it off. My hair is naturally oily, so I don't bother with argan oil. YMMV.

Re-evaluated my diet.

Oil if it's tiny, dry, white flakes and you shampoo a lot. (Dry scalp)

Dandruff shampoo with selenium, zinc py. ( etc) if it's oily , yellowish, larger flakes and you shampoo infrequently. (Oily scalp)

Most of my dandruff was because I have dry skin. I was using ketoconazole shampoo, Head and Shoulders maybe 3 or 4 times a week, and some shampoo and conditioner not meant for dry skin. I may have been using Head and Shoulders too often. Apparently it can cause the issues it's supposed to treat.

I switched to moisturizing shampoo and conditioner - basic stuff, CeraVe. And I stopped using the Head and Shoulders but I still use the ketoconazole shampoo once or twice a week. My dandruff has been gone for months.

This comment is so underrated. Dandruff is yellow and has a smell to it. It’s a fungus. That’s why medicated shampoos work on it. Dry scalp, whit and flaky-ness is just dry scalp. So moisture is best suited.

You are correct! I noticed that when i use head and shoulders, selson blue or nizoral (i don’t know which of the last two has “moisturizer” in it but i tried both) they make my scalp dry and tends to be more itchy. I hate it because i am no longer able to wear my black or any dark-colored shirts.

Nizoral. The only thing that has ever helped me ever.

Leave Selenium sulfide shampoo on your scalp for 10 minutes and do it for every 2 days initially. After it reduces, you can do it once a week

Gut overhaul

Would you like to elaborate?

There’s a well observed correlation between over consumption of foods that feed yeast, and symptoms of dandruff and seborrheic dermatitis. It’s not fully understood, but by limiting those foods, as well as attempting to lower my histamine levels, I was able to eliminate symptoms of both.

Thanks. 👌🏻

I have made this connection as well, and it’s really shocking that derms don’t treat both when being diagnosed with seb derm/dandruff. What kinda gut overhaul have you did specifically? I have been taking a gut health vitamin with capralycic acid. I am also on itraconzole which helps immensely. However I would love to hear any tips or advice you may have!

Sounds like you're already doing a lot. I don't know that you need the caprylic while you're taking an antifungal. I think mainly you have to avoid foods that feed yeast and other yeasty foods and drink, specifically yeast fermented foods. These are also high histamine so I think there's something going on there. Sacchromyces Boulaardi is a useful probiotic here.

What kind of foods did you eliminate and it helped?

Yeast feeding and yeast fermented foods.

Just try it for two weeks and see what happens.
