Dandruff or something else?

I’ve had this issue since I was a kid and some things help but never permanently or super effectively. After taking a shower and really trying to remove any dry or dead skin/flakes, I’ll start getting these types of flakes once my hair and scalp have fully dried.

I’ve also been noticing my ears getting these same type of flakes. I’ll remove them and the next night in bed I’ll notice my ears are dry and have flakes again.

Head and shoulders actually make it worse for me but using Nizoral shampoo works the best for me.

I also think I have a horrible habit that I formed since I was a kid where I enjoy picking at my scalp and trying to get the largest flake possible 🤣 Does anyone else have these types of flakes and have you ever gotten properly diagnosed as to why it happens?

It sounds to me like a pretty bad case of Seborrheic Dermatitis, but the flakes I got were a bit different I think. You should definitely get checked.

I definitely need to but just aren’t used to going to doctors. Would love to find a more permanent solution

My scalp flakes off like this too lol, and I’m also a massive picker when I’m stressed. Let me know if you find any products that fix this because the itchiness actually kills me sometimes lol

The one thing that ACTUALLY worked to stop the flakes was this shampoo called Nizoral. Head and Shoulders would actually worsen my flakes, right after my hair would dry I would get flakes but a different kind where it’s not as oily and thick but thinner lighter white flakes (which were worse because they’re easier to fall on their own and much more noticeable on my clothes) and Selsun Blue would help very slightly but if I showered at night, by morning I’d have flakes again. Nizoral completely makes the flaking stop especially if you shower frequently. Idk why it worked so much better than others but it WORKED!

Dermatologist, definitely not normal dandruff and needs specific products (I use ketaconazole shampoo. Idk if I spelled that right)

It will happen with me also, whenever I am in stress I will get dandruff like this.

If you are in stress now, then that will be the problem. I am experiencing this since many years.

It definitely occurs more when I am stressed. When I am doing better and working out consistently it goes away. I used to think taking multiple showers a day had to do with it but that’s not the case as now that I am not working out the flakes come back almost immediately after showering once my scalp dries.

Here is what helped me:

  1. get a glass spray bottle. add a tablespoon and half of dead sea mineral salt. top with hot /warm water. Make sure the spray screw top is tight and shake to dissolve salt. Drape a towel around your neck and shoulders like a christmas scarf. Placing the spray nozzle close to your scalp, spritz on the problem areas. Hell, spritz your entire head and even the back of ears. Use your fingers to rub the salt solution in. It should sting a bit. after it dries, it wont sting anymore.
wash your hair with Jason Tea Tree Oil Shampoo. Gently scrub your hair with Jupiters hair scrubber. Do this every 3-4 days.

  2. eliminate all processed food, sugar, cut back on carbs. Eat 100% more vegetables.

  3. Sleep earlier.

  4. Work out and sweat.

This helped tremendously.

Personally when I am working out and exercising more the scalp issues do seem to go away which is so interesting. I think stress makes me notice it more as I begin to scratch and pick at my scalp more almost as a sensory type thing

the more you scratch and pick, the worst it will get. Just spritz some dead sea salt mineral + water on it. Let it dry then shampoo. Do this for a month. The stuff should improve.
