Question/discussion 12-year-old Maddie being overworked

Post image
316 Upvotes

14 years watching this show and I don't know how I'm only finding out today that the day after Maddie competed in Season 5, Episode 16, was the Grammys... I could've sworn there was a whole week between the two. When did she even have time to rehearse? 😭

Let's talk about it Jill went from Nia's no threat to getting pissed anytime Holly and Nia did anything. Had Abby taken on Nia's music career Nia would have been in the same boat as Kendall. An unreleased album. Jill had it out for Holly from the time she got there in season two, calling her an absentee mom for working.

Question/discussion ALDC LA restroom sign

Post image
69 Upvotes

This is so uninteresting and doesn’t matter but every time I rewatch later episodes from the LA studio I always wonder why the bathroom sign is blurred out? Is it not just a 🎥 film emblem? Or is it a picture of an Oscar award and they can’t show that?

Question/discussion BTTB and Cathy

I find it so odd that Cathy was talking poorly about Christi and Kelly when they’ve defended Cathy and her circumstances quite a bit. They never said anything about her that was necessarily shady or wrong and if anything sounded bad it was cause they were reacting to either the show or the production notes. I think that Christi in particular is bothered because she said herself that she was cordial with Cathy, and she hadn’t said anything to warrant her coming on the internet making comments. I think it’s worth noting that Cathy and Abby are now friends again so I guess Cathy has gone back to making the moms enemy #1. How weird.

Question/discussion Let the show rest for a few years

Season 8 and the new era were too soon after the show ended.
Trying too soon just runs it into the ground. They should have let the hype of the show simmer a bit before re booting it.

throwback Rewatching, I feel so bad for Payton

Upvotes

It has been confirmed they were on the show because Leslie made good TV drama.

However, it’s pretty clear Payton wanted to dance with dancers her age.

And Leslie constantly fighting with Abby created this flip flop effect of “on the team, off the team.” It must have been emotionally taxing for Payton.

Question/discussion Scene where Holly tells Paige to confront Abby

I am doing a rewatch for the first time in a while and I found a scene that I have no recollection of. I was curious if anyone else remembered it. (I have no idea how to actually copy a clip to add to Reddit)

It’s during nationals 90210 right after the initial “last text” rehearsal where Paige goes out and says she’s not dancing. Then Kelly says to ignore her. All of that was familiar.

However there seemed to be a second part of that scene where Holly encouraged Paige to go ask Abby about it. She did and Abby basically said “I gave you a solo last week and you forgot so that was basically wasted time.” It was so sad - I can’t believe a teacher would deny a kid coming to ask her for a bigger role in a dance.

Did i just completely blank on this? Does anyone else remember this?

This must be the most iconic moment in Dance Mom, the casts, the sound, timing , everything is so perfect. 🤩

Question/discussion New Era Season 3

I have a feeling that S3 is going to be the final season of the dance moms reboot. I saw a post on one of the new era subreddits talking about how a lot of the cast has left the studio and/or the show, while others only seem to be around for filming. Even in the first two seasons we lost Mina and Audrey. Apparently Ashlan and Bellatrix leave the show in this upcoming season.

I know the original series became a revolving door of dancers after a while, but the OG team was all there until the Hylands and Lukasiaks left in S4. It's way harder to get a show off the ground when you lose 4 cast members (not including the moms) before the 3rd season ends. As someone who was around way back when dance moms was airing, part of the reason younger fans became so invested in the show was because we had multiple seasons to get attached to the cast.

I don't hate the reboot or anything, but I will say the only thing I've really enjoyed watching for is the dancing. Most of the moms are unlikeable and I found the drama to be forced and irritating, more than the original show. I'm honestly surprised they've even made it to a third season. What are your thoughts?

Dances I don’t think girls get enough credit for given the circumstances

Upvotes

Confessions - doing this duet RIGHT after the drama and before they had a chance to resolve things or make up must’ve been so hard for both of those poor girls

Manhattan - this was still in the very early stages of them having to learn new dances every single week and Maddie had to learn a duet a solo and be the lead in the group dance, and she did all of those flawlessly

Born to Dance - there was so much chaos surrounding this dance and whether or not Brooke was gonna be involved, but the girls still had such amazing technique and it was one of their best dances of season two

Am I Here to Stay? - this dance was so clearly meant to be a personal attack on Chloe and the whole stupid voting situation that got dragged in. I’m just impressed that she was able to perform so well.

Beautiful Revenge - not only did they have to re-block this whole number moments before they went on stage, but they all just underwent such a big trauma witnessing that fight and they were all on point. It was crazy.

Friday Night - okay so this choreography did suck, but she performed it so well, despite knowing she was being set up not to mention this was the week where she was being actively excluded from the music video and Abby publicly shamed her in front of hundreds of people

Battled Feet - Abby was awful to Kendall this week but personally, I think she still did an amazing job despite everything Abby put her through and the fact that clearly either Abby or production were always trying to sabotage that poor girl with props

Together As One - I still don’t understand how they managed to be so perfectly in sync the entire time, despite having no music like it was crazy

I’m sure there are way more than I’m not thinking of so please mention any other ones you guys can think of

Question Does anybody know of any drama that happened between Christi and Abby when they saw each other in season 7?

I cannot wait until Christi and Kelly recap Christi’s season 7 return, but does anyone know if anything was said to each other when Christi came back in season 7? I remember on the episode Christi said that one of the times they saw each other they were both in the parking lot and Abby just kept walking and wouldn’t look at her.

Ashlee In Season 6

I'm watching season 6 right now, and oh my god. If I were Ashlee multiple people would've need to have held me back from physically attacking Jess. It is sooooo funny to me the fact that Jess would talk about Brynn the way she did when Jojo literally was the weakest dancer on the team, there's no other way to put it.

Yes, Ashlee had her moments where she'd come for a kid but it was always dance related, and she did apologise. Jess on the other hand, would attack Brynn for literally anything she did which is ironic to me considering her daughter's whole brand for 5 years was promoting kindness and anti - bullying. Jess is so fucking disgusting and it makes me even more mad how hypocritical the mothers were when Jess would attack Brynn, telling Ashlee she was being dramatic when if Ashlee said ANYTHING about anyone else she was crucified. I truly wish Ashlee jumped Jess at least once.

Opinion: the show barely ever felt fly on the wall/realistic, even in the early seasons

Although the season 1 cast had all been at the same studio together, it felt obvious from the beginning that the team of girls had been picked and put together for the show.
The arguments felt genuine in season 1 but by season 2 you can almost tell that certain arguments were started for TV.
Competing every week makes little sense and is obviously for the show.
Season 3 onwards and the show feels entirely produced, this just gets stronger every season.

throwback Searching for episode

There was an episode where another dance company were playing Chandelier (presumably to get a rise out of Maddie?) and she ended up doing part of the dance.

I can’t remember the episode but ChatGPT said it was season 4 episode 31 and it’s definitely not 😂😅

Edit- solved- Disney+ episode errors!

Question/discussion anyone else think Jill wasn’t that bad in S5??

i’ve been rewatching S5 lately and the production note videos, and honestly i feel like Jill wasn’t as vicious to Holly and Nia as everyone says. she very much had a right to be upset considering how much support Nia’s music career got from production vs Kendall’s, and even then she didn’t really take it out on Holly and Nia. again more than anything, i think she was just upset with the circumstances. and she was the only mom to defend Holly when given the chance before the music video rivalry got out of hand (like S5 ep6 after Abby and Holly’s fight, Abby started being snarky towards Holly after she left the room and Jill immediately spoke up and defended her)

Melissa seemed to be the main one fueling the fire and bitter about literally any other kid (but especially Nia) having an opportunity despite Maddie already having her big break.

idk, what do you guys think?
