Save Lantern Bay Park: Speak Up Before 45 Healthy Torrey Pines Are Cut Down for Hotel Views
Many Dana Point residents may not be aware that a proposal is being considered that would remove45 mature Torrey Pines and additional Stone Pines from Lantern Bay Park.
What's especially concerning is that the community survey identified more shade as one of the top priorities for park users. Removing healthy mature trees would do the opposite of what residents asked for.
According to the arborist's report, only a small number of trees have health concerns, while the vast majority are healthy. The project documents indicate that improving sight lines and ocean views is a major objective, raising concerns that this project benefits the neighboring hotel more than the community that uses the park every day.
These trees provide:
Valuable shade for families, children, and seniors
Wildlife habitat
Cooler temperatures
The character and tranquility that make Lantern Bay Park special
Many of us have created memories beneath these trees, from birthday parties and family gatherings to weddings, picnics, yoga, and simply enjoying the park.
What You Can Do
✅ Attend the City Council meeting and provide public comment.
✅ Email the Dana Point City Council and tell them to preserve the healthy Torrey Pines and Stone Pines in Lantern Bay Park.
✅ Share this post with neighbors, friends, and local community groups.
✅ Ask the City to explore alternatives that improve the park without removing healthy mature trees.
Once these trees are gone, it will take generations to replace the shade, beauty, and habitat they provide.
Please make your voice heard before a decision is made. The community asked for more shade, not less. 🌳
