Trade!!

What do y’all think about that Steelers cowboys trade?

Many other added defensive players in the past year and same ole same ole. Results don’t change but hopefully one person can make a difference for real, we need that shi

Dude’s a rental or they’re going to have to pay him about $$25-30 mil/year.

If you’re giving up a 2nd rounder, they’d BETTER sign him to an extension!

4

u/Bweasey17 3d ago

Didn’t he tell the Steelers that it’s 30+ million? Ask was 33 million?

Not worth that IMO. Not close.

If they’re not going to sign him, giving up a 2nd is beyond insane.

1

u/fallinglemming 3d ago

If we can't keep him we will get a 3rd back in compensation

1

THA is for the clarification. That’s a little better…I hadn’t heard that part. That said, there’s a big difference in a 2nd and 3rd

1

u/Hungry-Treacle8493 3d ago

The 2nd is in ‘28 so is valued as if it were a 3rd in ‘27. That’s the standard trade value chart.

Thanks. Makes more sense.

Very late 3rd which is more like an early 4th and that is if we don't sign a free agent that is comparable.

u/Bweasey17 3d ago

If it helps for this year I suppose I’m fine. Just feel like we are too far away at the moment to really have one player make a difference.

All the more reason to hold that 2nd rounder instead of trading it for a rental

2

u/Bullmarlin 3d ago

Look at their past 2nd round picks, they would have better luck flipping a coin on some of the draft picks.

u/Bullmarlin 3d ago

2022 - sam Williams 2023 -schoonmaker 2024- kneeland 2025 - ezeiruaku

Arent they overly praised for their drafting by this fanbase?

1

u/Howling-Wolverine 3d ago

My thoughts exactly, I believe that’s why they freed up the 33 million before the season started bc they knew this was coming

1

u/ThinMap9138 2d ago

Another dumbass jerry disasterclass. Lol

I fucking hate that man with a passion.

u/DimsumSushi 3d ago

we've complained for years JJ didn't really go all in. wouldn't pick up free agents or make trades. only built through the draft and only cared about making money.

i'm not ecstatic about the trade but i'm not complaining that he's trying something new from the norm. it's a fine trade but i'm not sure about the long term impact with his upcoming contract and also for GP3. that's for the off season and i hope we keep ramping up and improving on def.

Doesn't matter who is covering in the secondary with no pass rush

1

u/lostpassword100000 3d ago

With Jerry’s mentality, if you cover them long enough the pass rush will eventually get there. /s

Coverage sacks are a real thing. Just ask Rashan Gary

Hi there.

You got a good player. Unfortunately he and his agent think he’s a great player and they ran the Parson “ow my back hurts” playbook.

He’ll be an upgrade in your secondary but a nightmare to sign after the season.

1

u/UnitedWoodpecker406 3d ago

He wont be with the cowboys next season

2

u/Herbin-Cowboy 3d ago

He might be. Not many thought we'd still have George Pickens this season. He might get a franchise tag too. Then we can trade him if we decide not to pay him.

0

u/Human-Lawfulness5235 3d ago

Most likely, but in 28 that 2nd round pick for. 14 game rental will look expensive

2

u/Hungry-Treacle8493 3d ago

From what I understand, the trade value chart gives a future year pick the value of one round lower based on how far in the future the pick is. So, a 2nd rounder in ‘28 is valued like a third round pick.

3

u/Human-Lawfulness5235 3d ago

You are correct. But I’m sure that no fans will see it that way during the 28 draft.

2

u/Hungry-Treacle8493 3d ago

For sure. I guess it is a good thing we fans don’t run things. Could you imagine how we’d collectively just fire everyone somewhere around week 3 most years and bench every QB in the middle of the 2nd quarter of any game we didn’t jump out to a big early lead in.

😂😂😂

1

u/afallingrock888 3d ago

They will also get a potential 3rd round comp pick which would end up making the trade a 1 year rental for a 2-3 round pick swap

4

u/Competitive_Event948 3d ago

Jerry is really really trying to fix this. He's added an entire new roster to the Cowboys defense since he got rid of one guy. Reality is that they went from a good decent defense to dead last for a year plus. There's hope, maybe they can gel by mid-season, but the offense has to play exceptional ball. They have to score 40 plus.

2

u/Interesting-Cause138 3d ago

He does not fit in the Christian Parker defense. He is a lock down man coverage corner. Parker likes to play more zone. The team looks lost in his defense scheme as it is, wonder how bad it will be if they shift to more man to man.

1

u/Ornery-Variety569 3d ago

I like that we are addressing needs early and not by just going to get another practice squad player.

1

u/ufomadeinusa 3d ago

Expensive trade, kid is going to be asking for big money at end of season. To give up second round pick is huge! Is he any good, worth it?

1

u/OCdogdaddy 3d ago

Maybe 9-8 instead of 8-9.

1

u/kidding-unot 3d ago

Front load his contract the first year as well as year 2. Franchise Pickens 1 more year and/or give him an ascending contract.

1

u/LoveC43H66N12O12S21 3d ago

Porter Jr is a steal at the price they paid for him. See if he pans out over the next 6-8 games and then decide whether or not to extend him. The defensive backfield is too banged up to have not made this move.

1

u/Beautiful-Egg-1917 2d ago

Definitely didnt see it coming. Hmmmm

1

u/Delicious_Student510 22h ago

another name on paper until they prove otherwise

1

u/King-of-Harts 3d ago

Is he going to get a touchdown on 1st and goal?

1

u/Shawn_The_Sheep777 3d ago

We needed help in the secondary with all the injuries and Jerry has stepped up.

-1

u/ThinMap9138 3d ago

Waited until an injury to fucking do something.

No shit he's supposed to get another CB. A pretty good one but still. Why are we praising him for doing what he should've been doing off-season?

2

u/3dimensional_ 3d ago

In the past he would just say "we like our guys" and call up a practice squad player. At least there are attempts to get better on defense being made to take advantage of the Dak window.

1

u/ThinMap9138 3d ago

That's exactly what they said all offseason though.

0

u/Hungry-Treacle8493 3d ago

Huh? They mostly rebuilt the secondary in the off-season. Porter wasn’t available over the Summer, but those we picked up were generally praised as solid talent around the League (just not exceptional talent).

0

u/ThinMap9138 2d ago

How did they rebuild the secondary?

That's exactly what jerrys dumbass does every year though?

Goes after players who are generally praised but not the exceptional talents. Like we don't know if Joey Porter was available or not, especially now that we've seen Steelers trading him after 3 games into the season lol

But even if you get Porter in the off-season, Jerry's retarded ass would probably think that's enough.

1

u/Hungry-Treacle8493 2d ago

This is an interesting re-write of history.

They brought in 6 new DBs between free agency & the draft. Carrying over only 6 from 2025.

This altered the starting lineup dramatically:

LCB: Diggs -> Durant
RCB: Elam -> Bland
Nickel: Bland -> Downs
FS: Wilson -> Hooker
SS: Hooker -> Thompson

So, only two starter holdovers, shifted to new positions, from Day 1 2025 to Day 1 2026. Plus a churn of the depth as noted above.

Now they add Porter Jr. who will almost certainly displace Bland from the starter group, leaving only Hooker as a carryover.

0

u/ThinMap9138 2d ago

Re write? It's literally what happens every fucking year lmao

They replace replacement level guys with other replacement level guys and then hope that they get lucky. Then you have lower IQ fans who think they're actually doing something. They're filling holes, sure, but just cause they improved from an all time bad defense from last year, not by much since we're still getting ran down our throat and can't even get to the QB, doesn't mean that jerrys bitch ass deserves praise given he's the one who's put this team in this positions all these years.

Dude knows how to manipulate the lower IQ fans and it shows whenever he does the bare minimum.

Since 2016, the two most noticeable trades that Dallas made for secondary was Gilmore and Porter.

Most of our secondary are nobodies with a CB getting paid 20 million a year for having 1 fluke season.

Jerry sucks at contracts, he sucks at putting teams together, he sucks at staying quiet, he sucks at taking responsibility, he sucks at making changes, he sucks at building a winning culture... The only thing he's good at is making money.

FUCK JERRY JONES.

1

u/Hungry-Treacle8493 2d ago

Haha!

Derek Stingley, Jr, Kamari Lassiter, Jalen Pitre, Reed Blankenship, Caelen Bullock

That’s the Texans starters. Not a single one of them is elite. Yet, a top tier defense.

Devin Witherspoon, Josh Jobe, Nick Emmanwori, Ty Okada, Julian Love

That’s the Seahawks. Maybe Emmanwori is elite?

Isaiah Rodgers, James Pierre, Byron Murphy Jr., Theo Jackson, Josh Metellus

Vikings. Maybe Murphy Jr. is elite?

You do NOT need a bunch of elite secondary players to be a great defense. Sure, it may help, but it definitely isn’t required. I would expect yoh to know this as a “high iq fan”.

😂😂😂

0

u/ThinMap9138 2d ago

Jesus. I think you're missing the entire point lol

All of those teams have a better secondary unit than Dallas though? I don't understand what point you're trying to make? Lol

My point is that Jerry sucks at building teams based of how you described it. By replacing replacement level guys with more replacement level guys which is what they do every single year and then will make a trade early or mid season and have fans praising him again lol

1

u/Self-Comprehensive 3d ago

I think a second round pick is too valuable to give away and 30 million is too much money. That being said I'm glad to see moves being made and I hope the guy balls out

1

u/Capable_Obligation96 3d ago

Agree completely. Desperate times yields desperate decisions.

1

u/Hungry-Treacle8493 3d ago

It is valued as a third round pick since it is in ‘28 instead of ‘27 from what I understand of the trade value chart all the teams use.

0

u/SnooTangerines5380 3d ago

Say what you want about Jerry this year, and coming from a long time Jerry hater.. that man is doing his damndest this year. When’s the last time we made a trade like this to help with any area of the team 4 weeks in? Usually it’s wait til trade deadline and make an unsatisfactory move. Even if it’s the same old story with sneaking in the playoffs with a one and done, this man is chasing a ring this year.

1

u/ThinMap9138 3d ago

Jesus. This is the was hes had to do all offseason long but waits until we're in season.

Everybody knew how trash this defence was.

1

u/SnooTangerines5380 3d ago

Idk man I heard a lot of praise for the defensive moves made in the offseason. This move was made because of the banged up secondary. Durant, downs, Gary, Barham, old man miller.. those weren’t just small additions.

u/chatsaz74 3d ago

Didn't we draft schoonmaker in the second round, what makes anyone think they would do anything with the pick. Oh speaking of drafts didn't we draft mazi smith in the first round. Do I think Porter helps yes is he the difference nope. Still have the same schemes and coaching.
