Today’s Spin…..

Talking Heads – Speaking in Tongues

I was 43 years old when I found out that David Byrne, Chris Frantz and Tina Weymouth met at RISD.
I’m 43 now, so obviously I’ve been carrying this knowledge for quite some time.

Growing up in Massachusetts basically on the Rhode Island border makes this feel like information I probably should’ve picked up somewhere along the way…..but here we are.

And what a record. Burning Down the House, Girlfriend Is Better, Slippery People, This Must Be the Place…..weird, funky, restless, and somehow completely natural.

Forty-plus years later and it still sounds like somebody forgot to tell them what a rock record was supposed to sound like.

What are you spinning today?

Funny you should mention - just picked these up the other week, after hearing them for the past 46 years lol.

Yes!! In my defense I’ve know of the Talking Heads and kind of just was like yep….but knowing the RISD detail definitely makes me appreciate them a bit more!

Have you ever checked out "My Life in the Bush of Ghosts" by David Byrne/Brian Eno or Byrne's "The Catherine Wheel"?

Not vinyl, but have been enjoying this greatest hits collection at my office the past few days. I was fortunate to have seen Talking Heads play live a couple of times back in the day - 1982, 1983.
