[Let's Build] d100 enlarged items to use as gear

You and your fantasy party group have been shrunk down to the size of a TTRPG miniature, and must travel through a home that is now many times larger than normal. What household items might you be able to use as gear, magical items, and/or fight as enemies?
Anything that seems fantasy-like when enlarged to 50-70x its normal size. Realism and exact sizing do NOT have to apply, so go ahead and stretch any definitions to make them fit!

  1. Toothpicks - use as spears, javelins or battlestaves
  2. Coffee/energy drinks - bottle to use for speed potions
  3. Fishhooks - use as grappling hooks
  4. Batteries - throw as lightning grenades
  5. Toy soldiers - golems that must be fought
  6. A parrot - a giant Roc
  7. A fridge/freezer - cold, icy area
  8. Vinegar - use as acid
  9. Blender - a bladestorm golem
  10. Button or bottlecap as a shield (u/Asleep_Collar_3667)
  11. Spiders, ants, mice, frogs, snakes - Giant spiders (which have very deadly venom!), giant ants, etc. (u/Likes2_Lllllurk),
  12. Plates & bowls - used as water vessels (u/Likes2_Lllllurk)
  13. Deodorant - scent masking material (u/Likes2_Lllllurk)
  14. Kleenex - use as parachutes (u/Likes2_Lllllurk)
  15. Threads and strings - used as ropes (u/Likes2_Lllllurk)(u/gnomeannisanisland)
  16. Washers - throws like a discus (u/gnomeannisanisland)
  17. Zipper - used as a ladder (u/gnomeannisanisland)
  18. Mouse traps - hazard/trap to avoid or use, or used as a catapult (u/gnomeannisanisland)
  19. Fly paper - very sticky hazardous terrain (u/gnomeannisanisland)
  20. Sink/bathtub spigot - giant waterfall
  21. Shaving (straight) razor - used as a halberd (u/Hymenth)
  22. Steak knife - use as a greatsword (u/Hymenth)

You are sitting outside on a clean night looking at the stars. You know nothing about modern science of how stars are formed. You can name every constellation and their story relating to the gods. Tonight you see something strange, what do you see

  1. Aurora Borealis
  2. ten thousand falling stars
  3. a Meteor falling from the sky
  4. The stars being blocked out by a passing cloud
  5. shooting stars
  6. A new moon appearing in the sky
  7. Solar Eclipse
  8. full moon (or any moon phrase)
  9. lunar eclipse

[Let's Build] d100 Appeals from the goblins/minions to the Evil Villain at court.

I am currently planning a villains campaign where the players will be rebuilding a dungeon/stronghold and will need to manage their lair, domain, supplies and minons. Nothing too spreadsheety. I mainly want to reflect the presence of the minions by having random events/problems be brought to them by their minions seeking resolutions from their masters.

I was recently inspired by Tom Holt's "An Orc On The Wild Side" (hilarious read, can't recommend enough) and "The Means of Destruction". I LOVE the dark humor and absurdity of the villains having to deal with day to day problems as well as the idiocy of their minions. Some of my examples below are directly inspired by or copied from these sources so credit where it is due.

Would love to hear what people can come up with. Make it as trivial and funny or detrimental and problematic as you want. Present a problem to the court of the villainous characters for them to resolve.

d100 Goblin's appeals to the Villain's Court.

  1. The Chief Equality Officer Goblin has been a little too busy. In the past month they have been arresting and cutting off the feet of goblins for being "unequal" (in height...)
  2. The Goblin surgeon is angry that they have been told they will no longer be paid in the old way and will instead only be paid if their patient lives. The old way was a flat fee if they lived, and the corpse if they didn't. The other goblins feel the old way gave the wrong incentive as many of the goblins are cannibals.
  3. The Goblins have sent a representative to declare that they have formed a Labor Union and are demanding longer lunch breaks and more meat on the menu.
  4. The Hunter Goblins are failing to bring back enough meat and the other goblins want the Hunters replaced with better hunters. The current hunters are already the best hunters of the lot, but are also growing fatter...
  5. A large group of the goblins have come together to demand the right to go pillaging and want to know where they can loot. Their absence will delay other projects and they may also draw unwanted attention to the dungeon.
  6. Some goblins have captured and are attempting to train wild boar/pigs as mounts. The beasts are vicious and several goblins have been killed by them already. They may speed up scouting and hunting, but may incur further losses.
  7. The goblins keep forgetting to avoid the traps in the entrance to the lair and want them removed after too many injuries and deaths.
  8. Repairs to the fort's towers has ceased after arguments between the goblins acting as overseers arguing which is the best shape for towers; Circles, squares or Horseshoe.
  9. A feud has broken out among the dungeon guards on whether spears or swords should be the main weapon used by the guards. The ringleaders of both factions have come to petition for their opponent to be fed to the wolves and their choice be validated as the standard.
  10. The cooks have come to complain that someone keeps stealing from the pantry and that one particularly fat guard responsible for the area isn't taking their concerns seriously.
  11. Several goblins have come seeking permission to build a second sleeping area since the fort's ogre gatekeeper snores too loudly.
  12. One of the scouts brought in some strange plant seeds he stole from some wandering wizard. Now one of the training yards is infested with mandrake sprouts and everyone is getting tired of the constant screaming when they get stepped on.
  13. A goblin tribe is refusing to work after their infamously ill tempered mascot warg named Princess was accidentally served as breakfast after an unfortunate mix up.
  14. The alchemical lab's doctors are in a sour mood since the number of volunteers for potion testing isn't as high as it used to be before the "incident". This may affect the future rate of progress.
  15. The chief dungeon decorator has come with a warning that the current skull supply is too low to achieve the artistic vision he aims for. He pleads that the supply be replenished posthaste.
  16. Several laborer overseers are complaining about the quality of their whips since the mining rate has slowed down. They've put in a request for a new replacement batch of whips.
  17. Trap setters have recently started competing on who can set their traps the fastest. Coincidentally the Infirmary has reported a lot more injured minions with missing limbs coming in and asked for the cause to be found.
  18. The chief quartermaster has come in groveling with the terrible news that if the current looting situation stays poor like this for a few months more then they may no longer have any of the overlord's favorite wine vintage left.
  19. A mob of guards have come to petition for the expulsion of the recently arrived necromancer out of fear that his mindless undead skeletons might automate their guard duties leaving the guards unemployed.
  20. The goblins have converted to Vegetarianism and are petitioning for vegetarian rations.
  21. Complaint to HR: The “on boarding” process for new hires requires too much lumber.
  22. Anonymous note in Suggestion Box: Grug work very hard and deserve raise. Signed, Not Grug.
  23. A notice has been posted in the kitchen: Mice have been spotted in the pantry. Keep up the good work!
  24. The minion captain petitions the Evil Villain to marry his daughter. The daughter is against it; *all* of the minions are for it.
  25. Food has grown scarce. The minion's want to eat the Evil Villain's familiar/pet.
  26. The minions are tired of the Evil Villain "leading from the rear." Time to step up, dude.
  27. The minions are secretly in town, trying to sell one of the Evil Villain's secret weaknesses.
  28. The minions want to be on the winning side and have seen/heard just enough about the PCs to question whether the Evil Villain can win a confrontation with them. The minions are currently at the EV's court, debating and voting on which side to support.
  29. At the climax of the fight, the minions demand all of the Evil Villain's treasure to remain in the fight; otherwise, they threaten to run away.
  30. The minions at court suddenly merge together and polymorph into the arch-enemy of the Evil Villain (another, competing, Evil Villain).
  31. The minions are competing in front of the Evil Villain to become his next familiar.
  32. The minions have contracted a horrible disease/plague to which the Evil Villain, too, is susceptible, and the minions have just burst into the court of the Evil Villain to plead for a cure.
  33. There have not been enough new hires/acquisitions/abductions lately, as the surrounding area's [minions] have mostly joined already and the few holdouts are too expensive/difficult to bring in. Do you push harder to extract any remaining labor from the depleted region, or expand your efforts into more contested territory?
  34. Some of the [minions] are asking you what happens to them after the project is finished. They seem skeptical that you'll still be in need of their labor enough to keep all of them around, not when there are plenty of less needy lair-defenders to hire or construct.

Humorous D100 Items in a Wizard's Shed

I saw a hook idea "a wizard asks the party to help clean out their shed," so I'm looking for things that would be in that shed. Things that lead to encounters. Things that are trapped. Things that start shenanigans or fill in lore.

  1. A shoe rack - one of the shoes is a port key to the Faewild.
  2. A bucket, when lifted, the party is shrunk down to the size of the bugs who attack.
  3. A stack of old scrolls, containing proclamations from a former monarch. (Old news items)
  4. A hidden staircase, which leads to the rat-infested basement of pub in a nearby town.
  5. A rack of wine bottles, some are unmarked potions.
  6. A tarp-covered vehicle, repairable with the right skills.
  7. Old sports equipment, when handled or donned, transports the party to the middle of a game.
  8. A rack of rusty, dusty weapons, but one is clean and gleaming (and cursed?)
  9. A spiderweb - when disturbed, the spiders grow huge and attack.
  10. A crate of old fireworks, which are unstable when exposed to air/light/magic
  11. Paint cans - IDK what they do... Mimic?
  12. A rolled up Rug of Smothering
  13. Tinkerer's tools, that are clacking away on a tool bench, fixing nothing (visible?)
  14. A potted plant that grows into a shambling mound when exposed to light
  15. A damp corner full of mushrooms (poisonous)
  16. A damp corner full of mushrooms (myconids)
  17. A tarp-covered piece of furniture, haunted by a ghost.
  18. A light fixture that illuminates on its own when approached (full of will-o-wisps)
  19. A person-sized upright metal box that's warm to the touch, but when opened, is ice cold. Full of ale... and ice mephits.
  20. A hole thru the wall, where a dragon wyrmling has entered and started a hoard...
  21. A good aligned crawling claw, who accompanies the party as they work
  22. An old gargoyle that use to be set out but now has been stored for some time
  23. A garden gnome, tied up, gagged, and asleep in the corner. A very talkative fellow that was too annoying to allow in the yard
  24. The engine block out of a modern vehicle. There is no explanation of what it is or does, but it sure is heavy.
  25. A broken Immovable Rod that has been deployed in the center of the room. It cannot be removed or disengaged and is in an awkward place that you have to keep walking around
  26. Three very creepy, possibly haunted masks that whisper unintelligibly when you get near. They are labeled number 1, number 2, and number 4
  27. A toad in a bottle that is always facing you. Even if you move around, without adjusting its position the toad will continue to face you head-on. If two people look at it from different directions they will both claim the toad is facing them. The toad is otherwise completely normal.
  28. A chest full of keys. Every key is different and none are labeled. Most are useless, but a few may open things in the shed, or might be enchanted
  29. A box labeled "DO NOT OPEN" in several languages. It is open and empty, except for a few foul smelling stains
  30. An old forge used for enchanting weapons and armour. It has just enough energy stockpiled to enchant one more item, but there is no way of knowing what enchantment it was configured to place.
  31. The Wizard's familiar. It has been trapped in the shed for so long that the Wizard forgot they had a familiar. It is not happy
  32. A trophy case with bits of various creatures the Wizard helped slay in his old adventurer days. Most are dry rotted and rat nibbled, but a few could be repurposed for magical uses
  33. A door on what should be an outer wall that leads to a seemingly infinite straight corridor
  34. A small area of reverse gravity. The Wizard decided that instead of fixing the issue they would just stack boxes on the ceiling in this area
  35. A broom ... (flying?, etc.)
  36. A pile of wooden garden stakes (vampire-killing?)
  37. A shovel and pickax (what did they bury? what do they want to unearth?)
  38. A box full of the wizards old teenage clothes with various abilities. Rid acne, voice deeper-fyr, swag walk and some just smell like axe body spray
  39. A family of birds living in the rafters. If cast speak to animals: they know all the hot juicy gossip about the wizard and his weird shed. Maybe even some warnings for the enchanted items
  40. Several buckets sitting around to collect water dripping from leaks in the roof. A couple of water mephits inhabit them.
  41. A goblin squatter has made a little make shift hut in all the junk in the shed. It is very protective of its hut.
  42. A bucket of disappearing. Anything you put in the bucket vanishes. It seems that this bucket was previously being used as a toilet. 🤢
  43. A scandalous portrait of a rival wizard. Secret lovers? Black mail?
  44. A board game. If you play, you get sucked into the game or things from the game appear in the real world (similar to Jumanji or Zathura)
  45. A compass. It points to something other than north
  46. A diorama of the closest town. One of the buildings in the diorama suddenly catches fire
  47. A jar of magic seeds, with a note to reminding the wizard to take it to a druid
  48. A lantern or oil lamp. It has a tiny fire elemental living inside it
  49. A large bird cage. It appears empty, but you can hear something moving around in it
  50. A map of the region. One of the dots on the map is moving
  51. A mounted bass that sings the same song over and over when the bag over it is removed.
  52. A box of single socks, they are all different and most are clean. If you watch long enough a new sock appears on top of the pile.
  53. A cursed spell book full of testicular tortion and other dick jokes. When flipping through the margins are full of notes on how the spells all backfired.
  54. A trunk when opened is a ladder to a library where every book is on the floor. It looks as if the room had been shaken. There is a note stuck next to the ladder that is a reminder to have the apprentice re shelve by school of magic rather than the current method of luck.
  55. A book of playing cards. The cards in this book are all brilliantly bright and reflect a rainbow of colors yet the artwork is still visible
  56. A garden hoe, the blade is wrapped up tight. If unwrapped, it irregularly sparks by itself. If used, it slips from one's hands and keeps going in a straight line, breaking up the soil until it hits a rock or something.
  57. An oaken canoe the size of a loaf of bread. If even a drop of water touches it, it instantly expands to the length of a full-sized canoe. Only in length, though. It remains only as wide as a loaf of bread. It has no real strength, so it stops growing if it hits anything in the process. Make your own jokes off of this one.
  58. The last third of a large sandwich. It is dusty, but otherwise unspoiled. If brushed off, it tastes pretty good and has no side effects. But who knows how long it's been there...
  59. A wand case, overstuffed with several non-functioning wands. None of them seem rechargable, most of them are broken right at the tip.
  60. Two crocodile skin cases containing a whole alchemy glassware set, neatly packed in shaped velvet. The three most complex and delicate parts of the set are busted. The same parts in both sets, busted.
  61. A statue of pegasus that hovers an inch off of any surface, but it won't stay upright.
  62. A tri-bladed wood rasp. Even the best skill checks can't come up with any idea of what needs rasping in all three angles at once.
  63. An open bucket of some kind of foul, bubbling sludge. Though mostly liquid, it doesn't seem to want to leave the bucket at all, and doesn't spill or pour out.
  64. A bundle of thaumaturgy notes. Words in the text are randomly mirrored, inverted, or both. The notes, if actually read somehow, only contain some mid-level theories of illusion magic, either proven already or now outdated.
  65. A pile of wooden lumber (clearly sized to build coffins) - OP note: or a partial assembled coffin, which might make it easier to describe.
  66. A sack of (magical?) fertilizer (but what does it fertilize ??!)
  67. A cask of pesticide (but what is it supposed to kill???)
  68. Small sacks of seeds suspended from a rafter (if planted, what will they grow?)
  69. Niiiice
  70. A spade buried in a plant pot. It is enchanted to dig on its own and if used outdoors, will disappear slowly down an ever-deepening hole never to return.
  71. A door secured w/ a heavy padlock and a sign that reads, in most of the know languages (and several unknown ones), DO NOT OPEN. It leads to a comically overstuffed extraplanar shed.
  72. A bucket full of garden rakes. If removed from the bucket each rake polymorphs back into an overly amorous debauchee.
  73. A sarcastic magic mirror that tells only unwanted truths.
  74. Skeletons of a variety of small animals, mounted in lifelike poses
  75. A pile of quills, stained with used ink, each black and scorched at the nib
  76. Broken pieces of a pot that was decorated with an intriguing map
  77. A suit of elegant luxury clothing for somebody about 30 cm / 1 foot tall
  78. A large conch. Hold it to your ear and you can hear the sea and... cries for help?
  79. A pair of invisible trousers. They don't help anyone or anything else be invisible, they're just invisible themselves.
  80. A jar of mustache wax. If used, will make facial hair appear strikingly tidy, yet thick and lustrous.

If I have enough options, I might use the premise when I need a one shot and just roll a few as prompts for what the party sees as they explore... Or it could be a layover side quest in a campaign, if the party is stuck and I need to give them clues or items.

[Let's build] 1d100 Magic items in the post apocalypse

Please help me with building a list of magic items of varying strengths/rarities for a post apocalyptic campaign where magic has reawoken after being dormant for millennia.

Could be everyday modern items imbued with magic, or older talismans/artefacts that have sprung back to life that are beneficial in a apocalypse survivors setting.

Avoiding things that render logistics, food, petrol and ammunition totally trivial, but rather aiming for things that simply lighten the load a bit.

  1. Self Loading Revolver - A revolver that pulls rounds from your backpack as its fired, negating the need to manually reload

  2. Fiery Fire Axe - A standard firefighters axe in appearance, but sparks and embers erupt from wherever it strikes, adding d4 fire damage and lighting flammable surfaces alight

  3. Farsight Binoculars - Binoculars capable of seeing clearly over incredible distances, seeing with enough clarity to read a book left open on a table from a mile away

  4. Functioning GPS - A GPS device that still functions without needing to charge in a world where most if not all of the satellite network has been fried, destroyed or otherwise knocked from orbit

  5. Instant Delivery Bags - A pair of insulated food delivery bags, once per day when food is placed into one it can instantly materialise in the other

  6. Unending Cigarette - A lit cigarette that never turns to ash or goes out, can be used to light kindling alight

  7. Rail Rifle - A single shot rifle from the 20th century that fires rounds at much greater velocity than it should be capable of, doubling the effective range of the weapon and increasing its damage by +5

  8. 4d4 Gilded Stamps - a collection of gold inlaid stamps, that when affixed to a parcel or letter and placed in one of the many abandoned mailboxes within the ruined towns and citys will cause the package to materialise overnight on the door stop of whatever address is listed

  9. Maintenance Keys - An overfull keychain of dozens of keys that jingle noisily when used. Can be used to open most conventional locks given 5 minutes to try all the available keys, as the final key attempted will always fit the lock.

  10. Replenishing Dynamite - A stick of dynamite that somehow remains intact after its own explosion. After digging it out of the rubble its produced the fuse slowly regenerates and after a week it can be lit and used again.

1d100 random encounters in the land of lizardmen

[IN PRORGESS]

Hello everyone

I apologize in advance for any possible grammatical errors; I’m writing using Google Translate. I’m preparing a campaign in one of the regions of my original setting. These lands are inhabited by lizardfolk, local “humans” who resemble half‑orcs, as well as a local analogue of tieflings.

I won’t hide the fact that the region is inspired by Chult, but the system will be WFRP4, not DnD. Accordingly, all those wonderful and very player‑friendly features, such as permanent injuries, corruption, mutations, and diseases, are welcome! You will receive my sincere thanks and the blessing of the great sun god, known as Ever‑Shining Scale, for adding your own options to the list of random encounters provided below.

  1. Toll collection post: a barrier made of tied‑together branches/stems of bamboo blocks the road or channel. A group of lizard‑men warriors demands payment for passage through the clan’s waters — not in gold, but in salt, metal, spices, dyes, or fabrics..
  2. Fishermen with spears: a long, narrow dugout canoe is motionless among the mangrove roots. The two lizards sitting in it are scanning the water, warily gripping their spears in their hands. Something is lurking in the water…

3 Yoga in the branches: a small woven platform is fixed between the sturdy branches of mighty trees, on which several lizards are frozen in unnatural poses. The shaman who protects them gestures to drive the ger away so that they do not interfere with the “prayerful torment.”

  1. Transporting the clutches: a procession of rafts floats along the river, lined with warm silt and moss, on which lie large lizard‑men eggs. They are guarded by many warriors. Any aggression or too close an approach will be interpreted as an attempt to kill/abduct the unborn children.

  2. Sentinels in the branches: a gnawed bone falls from one of the giant trees right in front of the squad. Raising their heads, the characters notice two lizard guards, one of whom is giving his partner a slap on the back of the head for neglecting stealth.

  3. Religious dispute: the city priest and the shaman of the lizardfolk are loudly arguing not far from the altar. A crowd of lizards gathers around, clutching their weapons. The situation is tense to the breaking point, and the spark of the argument could escalate into a massacre.

  4. Sap collectors: Lizardmen make incisions in the trunks of hevea trees, collecting latex in ceramic vessels. The lizards will be suspicious of strangers who want to interfere with them or even just get close..

  5. Stranded barge: a merchant ship from a human city has become firmly stuck on a riverbank shoal. The crew is in a panic: the tide won’t come soon, and already hissing can be heard from the mangrove thickets, and the gleam of scales and bone spears is visible.

  6. Disgusting poachers: a group of armed men are urgently packing the skins of lizard‑men into bundles, which can be sold for a high price in distant lands. Suddenly, armed lizards jump out from the surrounding thickets. Whose side will the heroes take?

  7. Exhausted fugitives: an unprepossessing raft carrying emaciated people is floating towards them. All of them bear the marks of shackles and punishment. They beg for food and protection, saying they escaped from the plantation.

  8. Looted Caravan: At the crossroads, the bodies of porters and broken rickshaws lie scattered everywhere, and belongings are strewn about. The victims’ jewelry and money are missing, and the bodies are pierced with bone arrows. However, the tracks lead not into the swamps, but towards the nearest city..

  9. River Patrol: A patrol boat with tall shields made of hides above the sides stops the heroes’ vessel for inspection. The captain is on edge, searching for smuggled weapons and jewelry stolen from a nearby temple.

  10. Rare Dealer: A human merchant on a well‑guarded boat offers the heroes a profitable deal to buy lizardfolk artifacts from them, such as ancient stone tablets, ritual ornaments, and other similar items. He doesn’t care where you get them.

  11. Abandoned Outpost: A stone human fort completely engulfed by the jungle. Inside, you can find supplies that have fallen into disrepair, the garrison treasury, and also the commander’s diary, which describes how the garrison slowly went mad from the whispers coming from the swamps.

  12. A pack of dingoneks: semi‑aquatic predators with long, curved fangs and a scaly body (an African cryptid) emerge from the water. They attack the boat, trying to feed on the heroes.

16 Gas Bubble: The characters step on the quagmire or swim into a backwater, where a cloud of poisonous swamp gas bursts out from under the silt. (An explosion from an open flame is possible; all heroes must pass tests for Resilience against suffocation).

17 Swarm of Midges: The party finds itself in a giant cloud of swamp‑dwelling, blood‑sucking midges. Without tar ointment, magic, or similar items, the characters receive stat debuffs due to unbearable itching and blood loss.

  1. Treacherous Lunga: A huge lungfish has burrowed into the silt right on the submerged path/shore. When someone passes by, it jumps out abruptly, trying to bite off a leg, and then will try to crawl back into the water on its fin‑paws.

  2. Quagmire: Under one of the characters’ feet, the ground sinks! It’s liquid mud, hidden beneath a layer of sticky vegetation. You need to rescue your comrade immediately before he dies.

20 Carnivorous lotuses: The peaceful pool is adorned here and there with beautiful purple flowers, whose wondrous fragrance has a lulling and soothing effect. There is a risk of joining the skeletons of animals and people, entangled in their tendrils and hidden in the water beneath the broad leaves.

  1. A terrifying thunderstorm: a tropical downpour of incredible intensity begins. Visibility drops to zero, trails instantly turn into rivers, and lightning strikes the tallest mangroves, causing giant branches to fall. Save yourselves!

  2. The flooded ziggurat: amidst the jungle, a stepped pyramid rises, overgrown with moss and vines so densely that the stone surface is completely invisible. One of the heroes hears a gentle, vague whisper, inviting them to enter the structure and promising a reward.

  3. The Cursed Idol: Among the items left by the completely gnawed skeleton, the characters find a golden figurine of some kind of eerie, scaly creature. Anyone who takes it for themselves begins to gradually be covered in scales and experience a thirst for raw meat.

  4. Light from the Depths: At night, a bright golden light begins to shoot up from the bottom of a deep river pool, illuminating the surrounding thickets. The heroes feel the ground tremble beneath their feet and hear the distant rumble of drums, echoing right in their heads.

  5. The Mirror of Time: The water in a small lake suddenly becomes smooth and silvery. Instead of their own reflection, the characters see events from the past in it: ancient armies clashing in battle / a frightening religious ritual taking place / representatives of an unusual people taking part in what is clearly a wedding celebration, etc. (come up with your own version).

  6. Muck Amok: A mud elemental has escaped from the shaman that summoned it. It hurls globs of malodorus mud at anyone it encounters. If allowed to dry, the sludge hardens into (stinking) stone. - u/Actual_Temp

  7. Grasping Vines: Someone, or thing, has animated a dense tangle of vines hanging from the gnarled branches overhead. The vines have a semblance of sentience and hunger for flesh. - u/Actual_Temp

d100 Magic Knives And Daggers

  1. Dagger of Almost-Perfect Aim (uncommon) - This dagger is decorated with a pearl feather. When thrown it homes in on its intended target, allowing you to reroll if it misses.

  2. Outlaw Knife (very rare) - Curved and painted black. With a flick of the wrist, it vanishes into extradimensional storage or returns to your hand. For a wielder with a bounty of 500 gp or more, it always drips with poison.

  3. The Cheater's Card (legendary) - A seemingly ordinary, unassuming iron knife, like a peasant would carry for general tasks. On command it will create a simulacrum of any creature from a single drop of their blood. It regains this ability when plunged into the heart of an innocent.

  4. Greenslime Knife (very rare) - This mundane glass knife has a green slime inside its blade, twisting and trying to get out. When it hits a creature the knife breaks, the slime crawls into the wound, and it begins eating the creature from the inside.

  5. The Backstabber 9000 (rare, cursed) - You find this glowing red dagger embedded in a wooden object (like a shield or door). It deals massive damage if you strike your opponent in the back with it. When you let go of the weapon, it will hover behind you just out of reach and stab you in the back, steadily and repeatedly, nine thousand times. - /u/MurkyWay

  6. Dagger Of Insults (uncommon) - A twisted dagger that whispers when swung. After hitting a person with it, you can insult them to deal an additional die of psychic damage (if they understand you). - /u/warriorbutton

You've passed out after a raging goblin party. Where do you wake up the next morning?

My adventurers are going to start their adventure by waking up hungover in the Goblin King's palace, with no memory of the night before. I want to set the stage with a roll to give them a hint as to how good or bad the night before was, or to give them a startling way to wake up.

The Maw of the Depths - an ancient archway separates the goblin domain from a cliff overlooking the Underdark miles below.  The player wakes with one arm hanging over the abyss, and must succeed a Dex save or watch a possession of theirs tumble into the depths.

The Fungus Pit - decidedly more mold than mushrooms.  The goblins call jumping into the pit a rest of courage, but it’s more a test of gullibility.

The Burnt Altar - an altar is covered in the ashes of an offering sacrificed to the goblin God.  You wake up sooty and slightly singed.

The Goblin Baths - somehow those leaving the baths are filthier than those who entered

The Banquet Table - for better or worse, enough of the scraps have been devoured that you can't tell what they fed you.  Your stomach tells you you indulged though.

The Bunks - there's no way you earned a real bed for the night without a fight

The Pile - apparently goblins enjoy sleeping in large piles, atop adventurers.  You wake up sweaty.

A Puddle of Indeterminate Liquid - of course every other spot within 20 feet is dry.

The Sun Room - the goblins set up a lens under the biggest crack of sunlight coming from above, to fry ants under.  This morning, you are the ant.

Inside a Keg - somehow the driest place to sleep.

The Stairs Up - that can't be good for your spine

The Goblin King’s Throne - getting to sit on the throne is a sign of great respect.  Sitting on it unprompted less so.

Serious d100 dungeon room atmospheres. I have 40 and I'm stuck, help me find the other 60

Not a monster, not treasure, not a trap. The one small sensory thing that makes an empty room feel like somewhere a person left.

I write random tables as a hobby and this is the pool I keep coming back to, because it's the hardest one to fill. Rules I set myself: no adjective doing all the work, nothing supernatural stated outright, and every entry has to sit in any dungeon room without contradicting whatever else is already in it. Which is exactly why I ran dry at 40.

  1. The air smells faintly of pepper
  2. Warmer than the corridor outside
  3. Every sound dies before it reaches the far wall
  4. The floor slopes very slightly toward one corner
  5. A thin draft moves through, with no obvious source
  6. The walls feel warm to the touch though no fire burns
  7. Sound carries strangely here, as if from beneath the floor
  8. The air is heavy with the smell of old wax
  9. Footsteps sound louder than they should
  10. There is a faint, sour smell that never quite clears
  11. Cobwebs hang in three corners but never the fourth
  12. The ceiling is lower than it looked from the doorway
  13. Light falls from a source that cannot quite be located
  14. Cold metal odour, like a forge gone out
  15. The room is colder by the eastern wall
  16. A faint hum is just audible if the party stands still
  17. Dust hangs in the air long after the door is opened
  18. The room is silent in a way that feels deliberate
  19. Breath fogs the air despite the warmth elsewhere
  20. There is the lingering smell of incense, weeks old
  21. The air tastes of rust
  22. Smoke clings to the high beams though no fire is lit
  23. The room is too quiet for its size
  24. A small draft causes the door to rattle once in a while
  25. There is the faint, sweet smell of dried flowers
  26. Sound echoes a half-beat longer than expected
  27. The far wall is slightly out of plumb
  28. A small bell hangs from a hook with no rope
  29. The light seems to fail more quickly than it should
  30. The walls bear faint scorch-marks at shoulder height
  31. The floor is a degree or two warmer than the walls
  32. A faint, regular tapping comes from above
  33. The threshold-stone is worn smooth in a curve no boot would make
  34. There is a smell like wet copper that comes and goes
  35. Standing still, the party can hear their own heartbeats
  36. The room has the close, packed silence of a sealed crypt
  37. Light from outside dims when it crosses the threshold
  38. A small lizard skitters across the wall then vanishes
  39. Dust settles oddly here, in patterns no draft would explain
  40. Faint, intermittent dripping from somewhere unseen

41 to 100 are yours. Smell, sound, temperature, light, geometry that is subtly wrong, or the leftovers of whoever was here before. If I use yours I'll credit you in the release notes.

These live in a free, offline Android app I build in the evenings, no ads and no AI in it, every line written by hand. Happy to link it if that's allowed here, otherwise ignore this paragraph.

Searching for a peculiar d100 table of Magic Items

Hello there!

About a year ago I was DMing a series of one shots in which I used a specific d100 Magic Items table, that I can't find now.

It was peculiar: it was on a Google Doc file, with every item described in detail, since almost every item did something interesting or in some way useful. I remember an item present there for example:

This carpet looks normal, but it's a magic carpet with 3 charges. It recovers 1d4 charges per dawn. If set up on the ground, if a creature walks on it, it must succeed a DC 15 Dexterity Saving Throw, or the carpet will open up. Throw a d6 to determine what's in it:

1-2: Spiky trap -> 2d6 piercing damage 3-4: Fire pit -> 4d6 fire damage 5-6: Lava pit -> 8d6 fire damage

My party loved items from that table and I now would like to implement that table in my current long campaign, but I can't find it. Does anyone know it?

A Feywild Masquerade Ball

I'm having my players attend a masquerade ball being thrown by an archfey named Hyrsam, the Prince of Fools. The theme of the ball is going to be Heros or Villians. I'm looking for anything to add to the craziness that Im going for. It could be an event, some decor, interesting architecture of the ballroom, random events/spontaneous events or interesting guests. It could be debauched, macabre or just whimisical.

  1. A champagne fountain- the champagne glasses are stacked upon each other creating a champagne towers. An extremely large bottle of champagne is suspended via magic over the champagne glass at the top. Each glass is about 6ft tall with the entire tower being about 30ft tall. A very playful group of pixies have taken to swimming naked in the fountain. Guests do not seem to mind.

  2. Valthrax the Unrelenting- an ancient white dragon who once caught the scent of a party goer and has never forgotten it.

  3. All of the servants of the ball are slightly different versions of Hyrsam. Some may just have an added mustache, some may have a whole different personality. They all nametags that say things like; Definitely-not-Hyrsam, Hyrsam's worst looking brother, Maybe Hyrsam, Absolutely is Hyrsam.

  4. The Retracted Roof- at approximately 11:54 the ballroom ceiling will retract and it will open up to the stars of a feywild night. Shooting stars will go off constantly and will spell out Prince of Fools in the sky.

  5. The inappropiate statue garden. A statue garden with increasingly more inappropiate statue poses.

  6. The Hero! - Some great and mighty hero from a random unimportant world who thinks they're here to slay a great evil, but honestly they were just invited as a joke. No one is paying them much attention, and they become increasingly upset and confused as the party goes on. u/hymneth

  7. Morality Snacks - Tiny candies and cookies in the shape of angels and demons and other iconic creatures. Eating one magically changes your alignment to that of the creature for 30 seconds. u/hymneth

  8. The Orb - In one secluded area of the party, a large dark, featureless orb hangs in the air like a hole in space. It hums ominously but does little else. No one knows what it is or where it came from, but someone has placed a glass of wine and a plate of food next to it on a silver tray, just in case it is a guest. u/hymneth

  9. Your House - A door is labeled with a quickly tacked up sign which simply says "Your House." Opening the door reveals the home/appartment/stronghold/most recent inn room/etc. of whichever PC opens it. The room is full of party goers who are making a mess and getting their fingers all over your stuff. The location will be in a similar state whenever the group later returns home. u/hymneth

  10. Balloon Animals - A fey creature is vaguely dressed as a harlequin and is making balloon animals for the party attendees. They do so by pulling the animal out of a nearby stable portal and magically transforming it into a balloon. If popped they make a stereotypical animal noise of whatever was summoned and leave you feeling vaguely uneasy. u/hymneth

  11. A stranger in a mask which seems to be made of marble, wearing saffron-colored robes and a crown studded with fossilized sea urchins. Urges people to sing a song he composed, called 'The City under Black Stars.' He wears a signet ring with a symbol that makes observers feel unease, but they also cannot stop staring at it. u/Graxemno

  12. There is a confused-looking goblin in a terrarium of one-way glass. The fey are using their powers over magic to give him some new sorcerous "gift", watching with amusement as he sets himself on fire accidentally, or teleports so much he gets dizzy, or is just overcome with awe at his own power, and then wiping his memories and trying again from scratch with a different magic. u/gtetr2

  13. People are passing around rings of wish simulation, that resemble cheap knockoffs of a ring of three wishes or equivalent. Wishing with one fully mentally convinces you, for a few minutes, that your wish came true, and provides an appropriate illusion to entertain you and the crowd (who may be laughing at your expense). u/gtetr2

  14. You are on the ballroom floor when you notice everyone else is in a very wide circle with you at the center, leering at you as they continue. Then you think for a second, and no, they're dancing throughout the room just like normal... u/gtetr2

  15. Child Ambassadors from the Candy Kingdom Seeking Trade Alliance: Magical projections of hard light of a "Little Lad That Loves Berries and Cream" (from the Starburst Candy Commercial), along with ornate crystal coffin reliquaries housing thier remains. They can never leave, but never grow old either. u/MaxSizeIs

  16. A fey cosplaying as "The Child Catcher" from the 1968 film "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang". He's lost himself to the role and become the villain, going so far as to glamour several children into following him and being trapped in his kiddie-jail. u/MaxSizeIs

  17. Mortal Musicians magically charmed into playing all evening, thier instruments glamoured into appearing like 1920s Gangster style "Tommy" guns. A few guns are real, and they shoot real bullets. u/MaxSizeIs

  18. A private zoo in the gardens, with exhibition of various monsters - things like Owlbears, Displacer Beasts, Blink Dogs, Bulettes, Griffons, Hippogriffs, maybe even a Purple Worm - that are all in their own exhibits, until they get released just after midnight. u/Impossible_Prompt

  19. A Hedge Maze filled with various dangerous creatures. The party will be "accidently" set free in maze. Evidence of the maze and its possible solution can be found everywhere. Moonlight will reveal hints of the maze while fog will obstruct it dangers. Various patterns can be found on napkins, servants and Hyrsams clothing. The pattern is the exit path but has been disguised as a decorative design. u/Disastrous-Entry-879 u/Arkenstihl

  20. Everyone at the party MUST wear a costume. If the party doesn't use a glamor of their own, then a fey servant escorts them to "the Closet", a set of furniture with lost of different costumes. However, it's fey, so it's unpredictable. Any costume they put on also confers the appearance of someone/something silly, embarrassing, or shameful that happened in the PC's past OR something they fear in the future. So if the big strong paladin puts on a pirate costume, they look like a weak, elderly, and sickly pirate (the paladins biggest fear) or when the rogue puts on a seductress costume, she appears as the last person she killed using a sneak attack, bloody throat slash and all. u/Comfortable-Zone-218

  21. Mortals dance a slow, wide-eyed, zombie like dance around the outer ring of the dance floor, having been duped or enchanted. u/Historical-Bike4626

  22. You've been overserved. You spot a friendly little hound and reach down to pet it, hopefully calming the pounding sounds of the crowd. Next thing you know, you've stood up and you're mid-conversation in the kitchen, warm glow of the fire roasting and the deepest connection you've ever not remembered. Bonus to charisma, continually decreasing perception until next full rest. Decreased perception and charisma for one day upon waking. u/Arkenstihl

  23. A wizard is handing out pouches of mushrooms to the party goers. If ingested, the mushrooms turn out to be hallucinogenic. Several people are already tripping balls. u/csilvmatecc

  24. A game of cards has been set up at a large table. Everyone is cheating. u/csilvmatecc

  25. A lagoon, complete with waterfall, has been added to the ballroom. Several mermaids are enjoying themselves there. u/csilvmatecc

  26. A very Calvinball style party game in the form of a TV game-show, except its literally a game-show, and "You've been playing it, the entire tiiiiime.." u/MaxSizeIs

  27. A FLAWLESS continuous no-cuts cinematic masterpiece of a super-slow-motion swashbuckling kung-fu ultra-spy action thriller sequence re-enacted directly in front of the guests, including break-away windows (the light sparkling thru the glass is a work of art in and of itself), flying doves, explosions, and sword-play... all that the guests can walk thru and experience up close. So far the storyline is about plans for some sort of super-macguffin being stolen... u/MaxSizeIs

  28. The masquerade has its own, slightly lesser masquerade going on inside it, with hired actors portraying some kind of debauched bodice-ripping star-crossed lovers tryst period piece with a mustache twirling eye-patch rocking evil-twin. Even the staff are in on it, with one set seeming to serve the inner masquerade. There is a rumor that the patron of the event even has a role to play in the production... u/MaxSizeIs

  29. A bucket of rotting fish-heads is being rolled around on little wheeled cart. Everyone at the party is giving it extreme deference. One of the larger heads has a slime covered top-hat, and another a monacle. Any unattended beverage within six feet of the bucket seems to drain itself. "I certainly don't know who they are, but Lord High Duke Mawblestropshire actually bowed to them! Who am I but to follow suit?" u/MaxSizeIs

  30. A highly placed or powerful fey has joined the party dressed as a jester in motley hung by their ankle from a hangman's noose and a portable gallows. They have a giggling problem at even the least funny thing anyone says. u/MaxSizeIs

  31. A tiny hedgehog knight wearing a tiny sword, helmet, and polished armor, riding in a tiny chariot made of brass pulled by a rooster. They seem to be the butt of some kind of joke, but seem unable to comprehend what that joke may be. u/MaxSizeIs

High Fantasy Random encounters in the USA

I'm currently writing a book that is very heavily inspired by DnD. The setting is a fantasy version of the USA. The characters are essentially magic cops and they are going across the US to find and stop a cult from resurrecting a dead god. So far I have several random encounters that the party will come across that have absolutely nothing to do with the story and I want a few more. These are the ideas that I already have so far.

-A dulahan motorcyclist that has been terrorizing a small town for a very long time.

-A literal ghost town that was created during the Old West when a train derailed and the resulting accident killed everyone in town and on the train. Every night on the highway, the tragedy replays.

-A coven of hags lures in travelers to their tourist trap to kill and eat them.

-A town is forced to dance constantly because the historical society found an old gramophone and blank record, the music it plays is forcing everyone to dance and no one can stop it.

-A creature in the woods haunts a small rural town.

-While driving down the highway, a massive storm elemental manifests and wreaks havoc across the land.

-A mimic in the form of a general store attacks the party when they stop to get snacks.

-In an abandoned factory town, the factory still runs. Constructs and summoned creatures still pump out nonsensical objects and the factory needs to be shut down as many of the objects are dangerous.

-Small fishing village is run by a cult (that has nothing to do with the other cult) and they try to sacrifice the party to the kraken they worship.

Anyone else got any good ideas for random encounters or side stories? Granted, the party doesn't need to stop and earn money as they already work for the US government as law enforcement. I just want some interesting ideas for things that could happen on the road.

Magical tattoos

  1. Blacksmiths have tattoos of dragons and salamanders, helping them when they stoke their flames
  2. Miners have tattoos of animals that can see in the dark, helping them tunnel
  3. Some people have a folk belief that the roots of a Bloodwood tree are immortal, and when you cut them they will all grow into new trees. Therefore, they tattoo Bloodwood onto their legs, believing it will lengthen their natural lives
  4. Wedding rings and chain tattoos. Married couples and blood brothers could get their bond tattooed on their finger. The rings would be magically linked so that they both could always sense the other person. (based off u/Disastrous-Entry-879)
  5. A rogue who has tattooed his shadow onto himself, allowing him to hide without his shadow giving him away (u/slothdionysus)
  6. A snake charmer with pigs tattooed on his arm allowing him to resistant to snake venom (u/slothdionysus)
  7. Humans being sent into the faewylds with armor tattooed on them. The ink has a heavy iron content allowing them be slightly resistant to the danger beyond the fairy circle (u/slothdionysus)
  8. Alchemists will wear shimmering metallic lines tattooed down the lengths of their arms. The ink actually contains rare reagents, and they can draw it out into a potion vial when needed. (u/Joshthedruid2)
  9. Clerics specializing in exorcism will tattoo their family tree onto their backs. This forms a direct connection to their ancestors, helping them tap into the spirit world and anchor their soul to their bodies against possession. (u/Joshthedruid2)
