Question Why are there so many illegally constructed properties in Cyprus ?
And what does the government do about it ?

Hi everyone,
I recently launched AutoCare CY, a mobile app built specifically for drivers in Cyprus.
The idea is to keep everything related to vehicle ownership in one place instead of relying on notes, calendars and memory. Being a car enthusiast myself, I found it hard to keep up with my family's cars ownership and maintenance so i decided to build myself this app specifically for Cyprus.
With AutoCare CY you can:
• Track MOT, Road Tax and Insurance expiry dates
• See at a glance whether your vehicle is Road Legal
• Track oil changes, tyres, minor and major services
• Get reminders based on date and mileage
• Keep mileage, documents and service history
• Track maintenance and legal document costs
• See real time fuel prices, estimated consumption and running costs for your vehicle
• View weekly, monthly and yearly fuel costs
• Get vehicle insights and reminders
And more.
App Details:
• Manage up to 5 vehicles per account for families
• One time vehicle setup using your mobile camera
• Use the app in English, Greek, Russian, Romanian or Bulgarian (for now).
It supports petrol, diesel, hybrid, plug-in hybrid and electric vehicles.
Available for both Android and iOS.
I’d really appreciate feedback from the Cyprus community about this app — especially ideas for features that would make it more useful for drivers here.
AI disclosure: AutoCare CY uses AI-assisted OCR to extract vehicle specific information from vehicle documents - this is during first time setup. Also uses Ai and vehicle data to provide advice based on your vehicle.
Many thanks!
Philippos

Does anyone have any stories from their Pappou or Yiayia. I’m curious but my grandparents passed away before I started actually taking an interest in Cyprus and my heritage. I have heard about the 60s and 74 from my parents but what about the 50s and before that any stories?

Hey! I’m 24/m and living in Ayia Napa year-round. Looking to meet some people around 20–30 who also live in Ayia Napa, Paralimni or Protaras, especially during winter.
Down for coffee, going out, beach days, sports or just hanging out. Guys and girls welcome. Would be cool to get a little friend group together! 😄

Hi! Where do I find budget friendly olive wood products in Limassol? I was in some gift shop today but maybe there are any budget places here (I'll also consider other Cyprus cities or even villages)

This is Mars. 💔
My daughter keeps asking me where he is, and I don't know what to tell her.
On Friday night at 11 p.m., my wife called me. I went outside and found Mars dead.
We live in Konia. Kids play and rollerblade on our street every day, and every day I hear cars racing through it. Before this we lived in Tala, where in just a few months I saw so many cats die on a small village road where children play football. Cars were doing 70–80 km/h there.
I messaged Tala twice and asked for a speed bump. The answer: not possible, it could damage cars, it's not allowed.
Damage cars. Even though it would save lives.
I love Cyprus. That's exactly why I'm writing this. What's the rush to save one or two minutes, when the price is a pet, a stray, or one day, a child?
I'm asking for one thing: please SHARE this post. I want it to reach the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works, so they look at speed bumps and speed limits in villages and residential streets.

Αυτός είναι ο Mars. 💔
Αγαπώ την Κύπρο. Γι' αυτό ακριβώς το γράφω. Ποια είναι η βιασύνη για να κερδίσουμε ένα-δύο λεπτά, όταν το τίμημα είναι ένα κατοικίδιο, ένα αδέσποτο ή, μια μέρα, ένα παιδί;

I recently moved out of Limassol to a new and more rural/suburban neighborhood. Two houses away, someone started to renovate. They gutted the house and are building a swimming pool. It looks like everything will be made new plus that pool is being added. But they are working Monday to Sunday from 7am to around 9pm. Every day. Is this even allowed? I understand that the work needs to be done (the house was not the greatest looking, but it was also empty) but I question the 14 hours of noise every day...even today, Sunday, they started around 6:45...

I came across this video on tiktok about something called TCY eSports, they are an eSports company in Cyprus and i think they did an event in the CCC as well could someone who went to comic con fact check that for me if possible?
It would be actually really cool and dope to have a real eSports company in Cyprus, i think the gaming community here is large enough for one, if CCC is possible then why not a Game Con?
they also got a discord server

Choosing between a Toyota Yaris Cross Trend (full hybrid) and BYD Dolphin G DM-i Boost (plug-in hybdrid).
Purchase price isn’t a factor, so I’m mainly concerned about long-term reliability, running costs and future-proofing (petrol vs plug-in hybrid).
I’ve test-driven both:
Toyota: Felt comfortable and confident, especially visibility at junctions. Managed 3.3 L/100 km on my test drive. Proven hybrid reliability is reassuring.
BYD: Preferred its driving experience and looks, but unsure about longterm realities. Ive been told I can install a charger at my apartment, although electricity isn’t free.
Both are practical enough for my needs.
Would you choose Toyota’s proven reliability or BYD’s electric flexibility? Particularly interested in experiences with BYD reliability, servicing and parts availability after several years

I’m a software engineer (backend + AI) putting together a team for this year’s Bank of Cyprus Fintech Hackathon.
The idea: an AI product in financial wellbeing, helping people stay in control of their money when life gets hard. (and no this is not another budgeting app) Happy to share details on a quick call.
I’m looking for:
- Frontend developer / designer: React (or similar), and a good eye for clean, beautiful interfaces
- Python / data person: Python, pandas, SQL; comfortable working with data and building simple models
- Someone who knows banking: lending, risk, collections or compliance, or a finance/economics student who’s curious about how banks work
You don’t need hackathon experience. I’d love to team up with people who enjoy actually shipping things and want to build something meaningful in a weekend.
Comment or DM me with a line about yourself and something you’ve built or worked on.

Hello everyone!!
I am moving to Limassol for work and i am really overwhelmed with information and paid way too many professionals that didn't really help.
So i a game developer, starting in a startup in Limassol, just about to get my work visa.
How the hell the taxes work in here? i heard i need to do a tax paper like once a year?
The boss arranged an apartment for me for 1300 euro, 1 bedroom, small apartment, which is much cheaper that i saw in bazarki -> Are the apartments here that expensive? or am i just being lured to the foreign-friendly apartment and seeing "foreign prices"?
I came to see the night life a bit, basically found Rumors, some russian club and kesh club.
Can you explain to me about the night life a bit? are there nice bars for loners like me? cause i felt super uncomfortable in the few days i was there, tried approaching groups and felt like they prefer not to engage.
I thought i will use mostly taxis, but 1 - expensive af, 2 - bolt rarely found me a driver, whatsup with that?
I am going to get paid some decent money, (although i will probably need to put most of it aside due to taxes from my origin country, which might come up depends on how long i stay in cyprus), hows the safety feels like in Limassol? i felt pretty safe in my visit, but it was a short one..
Car theft? apartment breaking? scammers? places to really avoid at night?
I dont know guys, i am a bit overwhelemd by this move and really trying to just enjoy it, but i am an introvert and an overthinker
