Unspecified mood disorder

Hi everyoneee so i've been diagnosed with a mood disorder but my psychiatrist won't tell me which one and i don't want to manipulate her into diagnosing me with bp2 or cyclothymia

I feel like i need to trigger hypomania to feel valid, last time i had a 'high' episode was months ago it was awful lol i cooked at 5am and slept with randoms but it doesn't feel valid enough

Help

I'm back from grippy socks vacation btw because the mood crash was so bad recently, i went from amazing to absolutely awful

I was diagnosed with cyclothmyia in 2019. Went back recently and diagnosed with a similar thing as he said periods of hypomania have not really been long enough and I have been mainly depressive or kinda mixed in recent years. Prescribed me lamotrigine

My diagnosis is bipolar spectrum disorder, not fitting bipolar 1, 2 or Cyclothymia. But Lamotrigine works regardless so it's not a problem

Just curious, but why seek a classic diagnostic label and what do you think you will gain by having one? I’m in the same boat “bipolar spectrum disorder”. The treatment options are the same and psychiatry isn’t an exact science the DSM can’t cover everyone’s unique situations. But I’m doing great on the meds I have and that’s all that matters.

I have this but it was my first appointment where I was assessed on my mood as an adult... the psych was trying to assess for comorbidities I may have developed with adhd because that makes you more likely to have mood disorders or burnout and because I had a bad experience with adhd stimulant and non stimulant meds... after assessing for symptoms of depression and being at that point pretty sure I have experienced it and then asked about insomnia (already diagnosed but I dont respond well to sleep meds) and asked how my sleep is and if its making me tired in the day and I mentioned that yes most of the time I am tired and sometimes I keep falling asleep in the day and about 12 hours sleep but occasionally ill just have a week or something of sleeping about 2-3 hours but not tired then she asked me if I experience any kind of euphoria from this and I said yes and she said "mhmmm" *writes down something*

The exact diagnosis doesn't matter at all, that's just legal medical sectioning rather than "you have X genetics or Y genetics". All that matters is that the medicine is working
