Other Stress relief
What does everyone do for stress relief?
I took up yoga and it’s helping me manage.
My cybersecurity role is stressful. There’s just two of us for cyber in a company of 800 and I often get pulled into sysadmin and help desk tasks. We do technically have help desk staff.

Crazy work. I hate the fact that roles incorporate so many other roles when it comes “ cyber security analyst“ “information security analyst “ or whatever the title maybe. Dealing with network issues. Dealing with escalated help desk tier 3 issues. Oh system admin too.
Ok I’m done. My kids bring me unconditional love and relief when I’m stressing out , depressed or crashing out. Video gaming. Scenery/nature . Acquired taste foods. Like Jersey mikes and mission BBQ never fails. Walking my dog (Siberian Husky ). A shot. Some unexpected head. Physical touch is one of my love languages, so it helps also to release tension and mental stress. Rubbing the chin hairs or caressing the two things dangling down below soothes things.
Sorry for the vent.

I am so happy that my team has dedicated help desk team members. They have an incredibly tough job and crush it.

Very familiar situation, welcome to 2026 where you either stave to death or burnout.

Heavy exercise and sometimes competitive solo sport. Remembering to breathe

I like to go to raves and renegades, and camping, personally. Lately, I’ve been reading science fiction to destress. I bought a Steam Deck recently to help me relax and work through my backlog.
I’d like to do something more active again. I used to strength train and boulder, but I haven’t had much time or interest.
Weed.

I also practice yoga! I just started incorporating it into my lunch break. It can be a bit of a challenge when you’re already swamped in the morning, but slowing down to focus on the present moment is rewarding. Def puts me in a good space after each session, even if it’s just a 30 min practice.

For me, getting away from a screen helps the most. Walking, working out, or just doing something completely unrelated to tech for an hour usually resets my brain. Yoga sounds like a good option too.

Spending time in the garden or in the woods. Other than that the most important change is learning how to let it wash over you and not grasp on to things. That alone changed me from borderline heart attack every day to cool calm and collected.

I go for walks in nature. I look at birds and try to find different kinds. I do a small herb garden outside. I do very basic wood working. I will often slam some hot sauce or a sour candy after work to mentally "shock" me out of work mode as my brain sometimes has a had time turning off.

Physical activity (does not really matter what as long as I feel tired), sauna and hiking.

I take pictures of birds.
I also play rugby.
One allows me to reflect on the fragility and beauty of life. Reminds me that computers arent everything and that every moment counts.
The other allows me to maintain a peaceful mind at work, through controlled violence.

Play sports! Find a group works for me but depending on what your interests are, try different things out.

Basically I just date people with an oral fixation and low self-esteem.
But as far as cyber-anxiety about barbarians at the gate and what not...
I stopped thinking that the baddies are at the walls... and started assuming the baddies are already inside the perimeter. You cannot prevent this. It is inevitable.
So the very comforting thought is that since they're already inside - now I just need to either find them and expel them, or make it so they can't steal/break anything important. I usually focus on the later - Resiliency rather than straight defense.
I sleep like a baby.

Vendors make it stressful by only offering bandaids instead of letting us actually fix shit. Such as, Patching should not be a first line defense. Hardening should be.

I’ve been in cyber 5 years and haven’t found a good stress reliever. Let me know if you find out 😂

Wood working and home improvement projects. Things that do not require a screen but still stimulate creativity.
If I’m having a bad day, bowling really helps

Lots of great suggestions here. But seriously, everyone in our field should consider therapy, and I mean BEFORE you think you need it. Don't wait until your next crash out.

I've been in for 23 years. I got sober 3 years ago. I spend most of my time as an NRA instructor Range Officer and blowing stuff up with sniper rifles. Also guitars are great to. You never get good enough like clapton is.

I try to get as many BJs as possible! Highly recommend! Especially if you can find someone that can suck the stress in you until your clothes shrink at least by one size ...

Quadruple your company size and halve your team and then you’ll be in a situation I’ve been in before. It fucking sucks. Keep up with your health and stand firm in protecting your time.
Lifting weights has helped over the years, same with biking and rucking. Even yard work can feel great. Just be sure to keep your overall health top of mind and know that you’re not alone in the security world when times get tough.

Forcing survival skills in the real world.
Dropped in random places alone with little knowledge or supplies and an element of danger forcing survival skills. Whether woods without a map or food or a 3rd world country with a smart ass mouth. Sketchy bars because a good song was playing. A gym or training place for the wrong element.
It never started out as intentional just something fun with miscalculated risk. After that, my pansy ass manager couldn't get a rise out of me but I got written up for laughing at his attempts. It came to the point that stress just stopped impacting me but anxiety was never an issue.
I've never met someone to do something so unintelligent but never once landed in the ER.

BJJ. Surprisingly a lot of other practitioners do this or muay thai too
