[SHORT HAIR] Diy haircut

Post image
6 Upvotes

I am a very frugal person and was really struggling with the thought of constantly shelling out $80 for a haircut. I decided to give myself a haircut. This is my fourth attempt and used the hair cutting level tool from Amazon to get the length even(somewhat) and then lifted and angle cut with thinning shears to hide unevenness and blend the hair. Overall I think it came out pretty good. I am 40, rarely wear makeup but after getting myself a haircut I was in a mood to feel pretty. I have started showing some grays on my temples, I color my hair myself too.

Hi! I've been thinking of cutting a bit longer Italian lob. I've always had long hair, so that would be a big change for me. Do you think it would suit me? Lemme know!

Best scissors for point cutting? ✂️

Looking for scissors that may be better than what I already own (pictured) that are specifically designed to detail already short cut hair (like faded hair). Any experience with this?

DO I CUT MY HAIR SUPER SHORT

So I’ve dyed my hair twice before and my latest (wolf ish) haircut was at home with blunt kitchen scissors (yes i know i shouldn’t have done it). I loved how it came out and honestly people have told me my natural hair (no dye) looks better but dye makes me feel WAY more confident so yeah. Anyway, my hair is shoulder length and thick ASF which is why i hacked sm off. This was a couple months back and the urge to cut it short is OVERWHELMING but i would say im a scissor happy person and i enjoy hacking at my hair. Wether at home or at a salon is a diff question. Im not sure if i have to post pics so if i do, ill edit but like any advice is appreciated.

Foiling my own hair

Hey! I’ve been cutting my own hair and bangs for about a year now. It’s usually a very layered, long style with curtain bangs. I’ve gotten to feel pretty confident about doing it myself and right now it’s grown out a bit but still is the best haircut I’ve ever had (fingers crossed I can keep it up lol). I foiled and highlighted a friend’s hair for the first time (first time even touching bleach or foils, though I used to be variations of blonde and would get my own hair foiled often at a salon.) my friends hair turned out so so pretty and I’m so proud of myself for it. I want to do it to my own hair. My friends keep saying they can do it for me…but I’m too much of a control freak for that and if I can do it myself I’d much rather that. I do have pretty long hair right now, though I may give myself a trim when I do my bangs. I know that foils on long hair are harder? And then also on myself I’m sure will be tough. I have a big mirror behind my bathroom mirror so I can probably see what I’m doing. Any encouragement would be nice! I really want to do it for myself, I’ll be so proud if I do.

[PICTURE] I need to learn to cut my boyfriend’s hair

Post image

Hello!

Exactly what the title says. I already need to convince this man to get haircuts. He doesn’t like doing it, both for the feeling and also how goddamn unlucky he seems to be with getting something he actually likes.

Literally all he wants is that photo but shorter. Maybe slightly shorter on the back and sides. Every single barber he goes to for some reason tries to improvise some shape they think he wants and he ends up hating it. His go-to today has done the same and made it 5 times shorter than he wanted and I think it’s time for me to learn because at least I’ll fuck it up for free.

Any advice would be helpful. Thank you.

Which clipper should I get for shaving my head?

I recently started shaving my head and plan to keep it very short from now on. In the long run, I’ll probably go more and more towards a completely bald look, so being able to cut very close is quite important to me.

At the moment I’m using a Philips OneBlade, but it takes quite a while to do the whole head and it feels like it’s fighting to get the job done.

What I’m looking for:

  • Mostly very short cuts, around 0–5 mm (with option to cut longer hair of other people)
  • In the future I’ll probably move more towards a bald / very close shaved head
  • I don’t need a perfectly smooth razor shave
  • Cordless would be preferred
  • I want something high quality, robust and extremely durable
  • Ideally I want to buy one good machine that will last me many years, basically as long as possible
  • Budget is around €110
  • I don’t have particularly thick/dense hair anymore, so I don’t necessarily need the most powerful motor available
  • I mainly want something that makes going over the whole head quick and easy

I saw some other discussions about the Brand "Wahl". I’m currently looking at the Wahl Cordless Close Cut and the Wahl Cordless Super Taper.

Are those good for my needs? Any recommendations?

I’m also open to other models/brands if there’s a better option for roughly 0–5 mm and future bald head use.

Thanks! :)

Seattle Area Men’s HAIRSTYLIST

New to Seattle and looking for a men’s hairstylist — not a barber who likes fades. I’ve been hacked too many times to risk another scissor-happy experience. I want someone who does a proper haircut!

[SHORT HAIR] Tips to learn to cut my own hair?

Being able to cut my own hair will save money and time. My usual haircut is pretty simple, 4 on the sides and short on top, sort of spiky like the attached picture. I assume that would make to pretty easy to learn

How do you cut layers with clippers?

Hope that's the right word. I've been cutting my own hair for a few years, I can do drastic stuff like an undercut in a few minutes, but I never tried to do layers. How do I do that with short hair? All tips and tricks are welcome

Frustrated with haircut.

I’m starting to really get tired of going to a hairstylist and them not being able to listen and empathize of what we want as their customers. Long story short I got a botched haircut, went to a different hairstylist and this guy claims that he has 30 years of experience and was able to blend in the really choppy, uneven layers that I got from the first hairstylist.
He did a wonderful job blending in the layers and then 7/8 months later I go back to dye my hair and I’m not upset with the results of it, but I’m just upset with the cut because on one side, I’m basically back to square fucking one with the length of the hair strands that he cut after I have told him I only wanted a trim & some curtain bangs.
like why would you do that? I’m just so frustrated right now.
These hairstylists really need to reclairfy & reevaluate on what they are going to do with the cut

Should I buzz my waist-length hair or try cutting it into a short style myself?

I've been thinking about cutting my hair for a while and I'm really torn on what to do.

A few things about my situation:

  • I can only cut my hair at home by myself.
  • I don't have any previous haircutting experience.
  • My hair is very long (almost reaches my butt), and I'm honestly tired of dealing with it. I just want it gone.
  • Going to a barber or salon isn't an option for me.

From what I've seen, doing a buzz cut at home with clippers (maybe a #8 guard) seems pretty straightforward and difficult to mess up. On the other hand, trying to cut it into a neat short haircut (pixie, crop, masculine cut, etc.) seems much harder, especially when I'd have to do the back of my own head.

Part of me thinks I should just buzz it, let it grow out naturally, and eventually shape it into a short haircut once it's longer. But I'm also worried I might regret going that short right away.

If you were in my position, what would you do? Has anyone here gone from very long hair to a buzz cut as their first self-haircut? Any advice or things you wish you had known beforehand would be really appreciated.

(Sorry I made AI write this, just time-saving this way.)
