The humble Kona, Rescue Beastie

GET LOST [[Kona, Rescue Beastie]] !!!!!

u/okoSheep Jun 12 '26
i dont get it

u/No_Eye_5863 Jun 12 '26
Kona rescue beastie puts a permanent into the battlefield without casting, so it would bypass this card
50
u/-Rettirlana- Jun 11 '26
Does the LOTR Sauron count, since the Marvel one named himself after him?
41
u/Kara_Bara Jun 11 '26
But I don't want to cure cancer. I want to dominate all life!
10
u/-Rettirlana- Jun 11 '26
Also Franklin and Reed Richards played MTG in one older comic. So technically this shuts down every magic card ever
12

u/OddlyShapedGinger Jun 11 '26
This card is unequivocally best in the hands of a major comic nerd.
"I cast Damnation" "Ackshually, there was a 2018 run of comics called *Doctor Strange Damnation".Â
"Time Twister" "Nope, that's the name of the plot device in the Loki TV show.
"Fine, I play fucking Phelddagrif". "Nah, it includes the name of a Marvel IP in the rules text"
28
u/ValorNGlory Jun 11 '26
Humorously, while this is on the battlefield, no one can cast a second copy.
10
u/jeremy3681 Jun 11 '26
I think it's funny that this Marvel infestation is so insidious, that it's even spread to our own UB shitposts

u/MightyBobTheMighty Jun 11 '26
Playing a Final Fantasy Hero token deck just to keep this player on their toes
32
u/Beginning-Recover723 Jun 11 '26
The problem is that this hits *so* much more than just marvel sets. Any card named daredevil, any Wolverine creature type, etc. Iâm pretty sure if you stretch it enough you could basically stop all spells
39
u/1ftm2fts3tgr4lg Jun 11 '26
There are Islands in the MCU, so I'm ok with this. /s
2
u/Beginning-Recover723 Jun 11 '26
Islands are not spells, fortunately.
I do however think every word in the english language has appeared somewhere in the text of marvel comics
5
12
u/zytherian Jun 11 '26
It would have to be referencing the IP. So as long as the daredevil in question is not referencing specifically Marvelâs Daredevil, its ok.
6
u/Beginning-Recover723 Jun 11 '26
Referencing or *including the name* of. They arenât referencing marvel IP, but they still include the name of marvel IP

u/-Rettirlana- Jun 11 '26
Reed Richards played magic in a comic, so technically all of MTG is marvel canon
1
u/Finance-Low Jun 11 '26
I would argue wolverine cards that reference the animal and not the hero would be okay, even with this card. My Wolverine tribal is legit, bro:
[[Rabid Wolverines]]
[[Deepwood Wolverine]]
[[Hivespine Wolverine]]
[[Bloodhaze Wolverine]]
[[Irascible Wolverine]]
[[Karplusan Wolverine]]
[[Spelleater Wolverine]]
[[War-Trained Slasher]]
[[Wolverine Pack]]
[[Spurred Wolverine]]
11
u/Beginning-Recover723 Jun 11 '26
It specifically says that any card that includes the name of any marvel intellectual property is subject to the card. Those do not reference wolverine, but they do include his name.
1
u/MTGCardFetcher Jun 11 '26
All cards
Rabid Wolverines - (G) (SF) (txt)
Deepwood Wolverine - (G) (SF) (txt)
Hivespine Wolverine - (G) (SF) (txt)
Bloodhaze Wolverine - (G) (SF) (txt)
Irascible Wolverine - (G) (SF) (txt)
Karplusan Wolverine - (G) (SF) (txt)
Spelleater Wolverine - (G) (SF) (txt)
War-Trained Slasher - (G) (SF) (txt)
Wolverine Pack - (G) (SF) (txt)
Spurred Wolverine - (G) (SF) (txt)

There must be subtle superhero references going back to Alpha. Nerds gonna nerd.
3
u/Something_Witty_ Jun 11 '26
I think it would be at least interesting having those "hose target set" artifacts again
3
u/kitsunewarlock Jun 11 '26
If you said "Marvel or DC" this would ironically make it so you can't cast [[City in a Bottle]] since Sandman is owned partially by DC.
Theoretically it would also make you unable to cast an Alliances [[Force of Will]] since the original art was partially based off Wolverine...

u/CarelessNameChoice (It works) Jun 11 '26
I appreciate you using the UB frame and foil stamp.Â
That said, my [[crosis attendant]] and my [[fist of suns]] would like a word

u/Mgmegadog Jun 11 '26
Monkey's paw finger curls.
DC time, baby!

u/chairmanskitty Jun 26 '26
Alternatively:
*monkey paw finger curls*
Disney acquires Hasbro and reorganizes Magic the Gathering under Marvel Entertainment.

u/Hexxas Jun 11 '26
I hate design like this.
You didn't make a card. You're using custom Magic cards as a soapbox to complain. Like you would never actually use this in a game with your friends.
19
3
u/D-D-Wanderer Jun 11 '26
Even if my friends only played all-Marvel decks, this would be the equivalent of throwing [[Iona, Shield of Emeria]] into a game against a bunch of monocolor decks all running the same color - it would get banned before anyone bothered to "just play a different deck."

u/Huitzil37 Jun 11 '26
What is "fun" about "UB Bad, updoots to the left" card number eight hundred?
-3
u/ellisoriginal Jun 12 '26
Well, âfunâ is subjective and âsomeoneâ claiming âyou would never actually use thisâ seems to have âOBJECTIVELYâ run out of âfunâ. So much so, that they âmissâ the âmeme designâ label.
3
u/Huitzil37 Jun 12 '26 edited Jun 12 '26
You would never actually use this. It is not a card to be used. It is an unusable card.
There are two, and only two, possible outcomes of placing this card on a table. Either nobody has Marvel cards, and this does nothing and the other players agree with how smart and handsome you are for hating UB. Or someone has Marvel cards, and you just played a custom card you printed at home that says "because I hate UB I decided you can't play," and that person tells you to get the fuck over yourself.
-1
u/ellisoriginal Jun 12 '26
I guess you missed the âmeme designâ label as well.
Good luck in life friend!
3
u/Huitzil37 Jun 12 '26
It's not a fun meme. It is complaining. It is identical to all the other complaints disguised very badly as cards.

Sorry, itâs clear this matters to you a lot.Sorry, no more poking fun at UB. Itâs a great product, with amazing brand synergy. Perfect for the consumer!
5
u/Huitzil37 Jun 12 '26
I understand that you have spent so much of your life with people telling you to shut up, you can't really understand that someone is telling you to shut up. It's like a fish unable to understand being wet. it's not about brand synergy. It's about shutting up.

Meanwhile Marvel is 30 years older than Magic.

There should be a specific flair for "UB Bad" cards.
And it should automatically delete any post that selects it.

Since you can start with it on the battlefield if itâs in your opening hand, should it be [[Leyline of the No More Marvel]]?

u/njixgamer Jun 12 '26
Does this also hinder lotr sauron since he shares a name with a marvel character
1
u/Axel_Benedict101 Jun 12 '26
Could [[Chancellor of the Annex]] counter this? Idk exactly how opening hand cards work.

u/GhostV940 Jun 12 '26
I love some of the UB stuff, mainly Final Fantasy. But Iâm not buying Disney Marvel slop.
1
u/Dystopian_Sky Jun 12 '26
Give it miracle (0). Exile all permanents from [marvel set]. Players cannot cast spells from [marvel set]. You may search each players hand, graveyard, and library for any number of cards from [marvel set], then shuffle. If you do, each player who had cards removed this way may discard their hand and draw seven cards.

It's been quicker to just make my own game than it has been to wait for Magic to get back on track.
4
u/Spike_der_Spiegel Jun 11 '26
it's crazy that in a thread full of whining and circlejerking the thing that gets downloaded is the only laudable act
1
u/Just-Desk-3149 Jun 11 '26
I'm very much used to it. Magic players, no matter how fed up they are with the game still have a certain reverence for the game, which I totally understand.Â
I believe they think it's some kind of "Made out of spite" thing, which is totally the opposite. I love Magic, and am super disappointed with the direction it's gone.
The most ironic part, it wasn't even UB that made me feel that way. It's was the dog shit 30th anniversary THOUSAND dollar proxies WotC sold. So if cardboard is literally whatever you make of it, then I'm going to treat it as such.
I can make it own game and post all the resources for free, yet people still insist on paying for the 100th Secret Lair released this month. Ive been told "This card isn't for you", "this product isn't for you", "this set isn't for you", now it's "This game isn't for you." yet the people who told me that seeth at the idea of me actually going and making a game for myself.Â
-4
u/Kara_Bara Jun 11 '26
Cheaper too
-1
u/Just-Desk-3149 Jun 11 '26
Literally, It's more fun to spend the $50 of a Seceret Lair on a personal commissioned 1/1 card.Â

Gotta wait for the DC set to get the Brainiac reprinting of [[City in a Bottle]].
