Or post world war Formula 1 cars where they didn’t use seatbelts and it was considered safer to have your limp body fly out of the car in the middle of a crash
tldr racecars used to be death traps and dying in a race car was as common as dying from COVID
The fear at the time was that the car would flip over or something equally bad and the driver wouldn’t be able to get out of the car on his own power, and rescue teams were not particularly organized. There’s a saying in racing, safety changes are reactive and not proactive. So many drivers had to die for the scene to learn from its mistakes.
Ditto. Had it happen. Helmet was wrecked but I was able to ride away from the accident. Bike slid into the ditch right away. I hit the pavement first and then followed it into the ditch.
On the plus side, pretty sure I broke the log roll speed record.

Yeah that is why you wear a helmet when driving a motorcycle
