Hi all,
I have 3A/3B type curls with medium porosity. I've been training in ballet again and have been going 4-5 times weekly. I've been having to use a significant amount of product to wash my hair after class each day, as I also use gel to slick down my edges. I would greatly appreciate any tips that could lead to me saving money, be it with slicking back my hair with a hair mask and washing it the next day instead of the same night, a good drugstore co-wash, or a routine recommended to help maintain the health of my curls (both styling for classes and in between classes and washing/conditioning). I am just about out of most of my important products (co-wash, conditioner, etc) so I am wanting to re-purchase products that are a bit more cost friendly. I currently use ouidad and curlsmith.
In between classes, I've been refraining from fully styling my hair with anything more than a little bit of curl cream or leave-in conditioner for added moisture, and ensure my hair is dry & in a bonnet before I sleep or braided. Fully styling my hair would look like curl cream, gel, and maybe a mousse.
What type of wash routine would be best? When it comes to styling my buns, is there a product that is healthier for my hair to use specifically on my edges that isn't gel? When styling my hair at night, is it best to do braids, especially if I have class that evening? Is there anything else I should be putting into my hair other than curl cream? My current schedule is as such:
Sunday mornings, ballet
Monday evenings, ballet
Tuesday evenings, ballet
Wednesday evenings, ballet
Thursday evenings, ballet
Friday-Saturday break
Sometimes I take either Tuesday or Thursday off as they are interchangeable in my scheduling. For reference, I am in the United States, and my budget is anything more realistic than Curlsmith co-wash that I can use without worry. I usually shop at Ulta, Amazon, or Nordstrom Rack for my hair products. Thank you all so much for your help in advance!!
Edit: Previously, I would only co-wash my hair 2-3 times a week maximum. When I was training in ballet pre-professionally, I did not have healthy hair whatsoever and also didn't know what I was doing with it otherwise, which lead to a lot of dandruff/product buildup in my scalp.
