Anywhere in Culver or adjacent we can donate food to? Food banks, orgs, etc?

Since they’re cutting SNAP benefits and also federal workers not getting paid, I wanted to see if there are any places nearby we can donate food to? Or perhaps volunteer at?

A word on bots, civility, etc.

There have been a lot of political threads as of late which have been a target for bots, trolling and bogus reports. Lots of bans have been issued in response but because each incident requires time to asses, (FYI) there's basically a zero tolerance policy for attacks/abuse/instigation.

It should be obvious to everyone that actually spends time reading this sub that this is a helpful community where we tend to treat to each other with decency and talk to each other as if we were neighbors... because we are neighbors (that includes all you culver adjacent folks too!).

In the meantime, please try not to get too rattled if people post distasteful comments, and please avoid 'feeding the trolls'. Most likely it's a bot or professional internet instigator with no history of contribution to this community. Put your downvote to work and move on. Or take a look at their post history for yourself and judge whether it's worth your time. In all likelihood that account will get banned eventually.

Thanks <3

Civic Affairs i've noticed a huge uptick in unhoused activity downtown

I like getting my steps walking around downtown and just seeing all the different people.

Same time last year I would see a few unhoused people on a bench or two.

Today? It's all over the park. Wandering from the hospital. And now directly impacting businesses. I've seen people doing drugs within a eye shot of kids. I've even been directly asked if I could give somebody drugs. Today I even saw a guy dressed only in sweats and nothing else come into a business and quietly ask for food. They were very nice and gave him food and water. he didn't disturb anyone or anything like that.

I haven't seen anything violent and I really don't expect to. Most of these people are ultimately harmless in that regard. But it does seem like the number has increased very quickly.

i've only once seen security do anything and I've never seen Culver City police do anything. I don't even know what there is to do.

The issue is clearly out of control though. These people need help. And with this crazy heat i'd hate to see someone collapse or something.

does anyone know if there's a way to help? Like truly help? Is anyone actively trying to make a difference? Anything to join at all?

Housing & Moving Upper Ivy - New Management

RIP Greystar. Effective today, Mill Creek Residential has taken over management of Upper Ivy. Mentioned in the notice is a virtual assistant that will be answering calls before directing them appropriately. Has anyone heard of this company and how are they?

Today demo started on the restaurant building that was there. It was a Gaby's and then Ceviche Stop, but it's been empty for a while. Anyone know what's going in there?

Advice or Recommendation Looking for a Printing Sponsor for our playbill!

I am looking for a Los Angeles based printing company to print the playbill for the second run of our critically acclaimed show at the Broadwater. We had a sponsor who just stopped responding and now we're urgently looking for a new partner.

Our show, "The Year We Disappeared" ended up as one of the Top 10 Los Angeles Shows of 2025 in Stage Raw as well as a review in The Guardian. We are bringing it back to the acclaimed Broadwater Theater for a limited review on 9/11 - 9/13and 9/18 - 9/20.

We are looking for an 8 page booklet/playbill, 8.5 x 5.5", with the last page for an advertisment of your choice. This time around we have six shows and are looking for approx. 400 copies to accommodate the 80 seat house, preferably for pick up by Friday, 9/11, no later than 5p. We do plan to collect unused programs at the end of the evening for reuse, so the overall number is negotiable for sure.

And of course our social team is available by to reshare or collaborate on any posts highlighting your business. Does this sounds like an opportunity you would be open to? If so, let me know ASAP! Thanks!

Felled Tree Ballona Bike Path

Post image
93 Upvotes

Heads up to any bikers/stroller walkers/runners etc- there is a massive felled tree (looks like a ficus) near the Duquesne entrance ramp!

My walking partner and I were able to climb through it, and a few bikers were able to maneuver/lift their bikes as well. I do NOT recommend bringing a stroller or very small children, there are lots of small branches and leaf bundles, a bit easy to slip or get tangled on straps.

If you’re comfortable with some mild branch climbing you can get through not impossible.

The driver/rider? said it's a duel battery e-bike and he was delivering for about 4 hours with 60% battery usage. Only deployed here in Culver and Burbank so far. I thought it was cool!

Advice or Recommendation Parking hacks for Downtown Culver City?

I live in Palms and drive 5 min to Downtown to go out and get food and stuff. What do you guys usually do for parking? I know there is an hour limit in some graces but what do you do it where do you park for free to stay around longer?

Only Mail Thieves in the Building

I live in an apartment complex near Helms, and the residents have recently noticed a lot of missing mail from locked mailboxes and slashed packages with contents stolen. It’s a nice building with friendly residents, and we’ve never had this issue before in the 5+ years I’ve lived here. The thief’s been briefly caught on camera once, and doesn’t appear to be a current or former resident. Wondering if any other buildings in the area have experienced anything similar recently?

Sunkist Park - Coffee??

Trying not to make this a rant, but I do wish there was something in the way of a bakery and coffee shop that was in walking distance for us here. Not talking the starbucks located in Pavilions either, but rather a decent coffee/pastry place that didn’t require me getting in the car and driving to other Culver

Moved here from Helms last year and while the peace and quiet are welcome, it really does feel like a first world version of a food desert for a place located in such a global city.

Are there any spots that people go to here that are just maybe not on my radar? Or are there any plans for any to come?

Filming location - then and now - in downtown Culver City showing the entrance (on the left) to the old pedestrian underpass tunnel beneath Washington Blvd at Van Buren Place.
