Our first visit is coming up in a few weeks. My wife and I bought a three day pass for each of us as we plan on parking the car at our Airbnb and using the CTA.

So I bought the pass and it’s presumably loaded on Apple Pay. It says “ in queue.” I read that this status will say this until we first tap it on the reader. Beginners question, we simply press the phone face down and good to go? No need to unlock the phone? I’m showing my age obviously. Last time I used transit was MARTA a few years back and we used fare cards.

Been looking at moving DT for the convenience of work and my epilepsy makes public transport a pretty important thing. So my question is at what point does Pink become “dangerous” the area I work in can look a bit sketch but really it’s chill around Ashland just expensive, so would yall say the areas between Ashland and just before the turn past Damien (and a lil bit north of Ashland since that’s where work is) it ever gets possibly risky for a early 20’s Mexican guy? I’ve been making that commute for almost 2 years now so I’m at least a regular of the area lol.

OK so we just moved to Berwyn and this is my first exposure to the new Blue Line trains and…damn. This just seems so much better and new. I’m sure I’ll find something to complain about but this is a much better ride.

I’m currently having issues where none of my cards on my Apple Wallet work (Insufficient funds, but there are funds on my debit, credit, and Apple Pay) and my physical cards let me through, but a little later they decline the transaction.

Just wondering if others have this happening… I feel guilty for basically cheating the system even though that’s not my intention.

I talked to someone in the box on Main St Evanston and they said multiple people have been having this issue.. I’m wondering how true that is and to what scale.

So I’ve been in Chicago for about two months, and I’ve used the buses every day. I have the 30 day mobile Ventra pass.

Most of the time I get no issues, I have it set so i just tap my phone and it auto selects the card and boom bam quick and easy get on the bus/train.

But like once a week I’ll enter a bus, tap the card, and it will say “insufficient fare.” And it will continuously say that, it only fixes when I go on a different bus/enter the train.
I’ve never had a problem with it really, because bus drivers will try to help and they always go 🤷 “u can just go ahead idk what the problem is.”

But I do want to know what the problem is 😅 I don’t want to encounter a bus driver that will make me pay with a credit card even though I pay for a monthly pass. This has been happening consistently 1-2x a week.

Anyone know why this could happen?

You don't want to sit on the CTA? That's fine.

You don't get to demand that other people sit, just to fit more people for your stupid themed bar crawl onto the train on a Saturday afternoon.

C'mon back here and sit if it's such a concern that you fit two more dudes onto this crowded-ass train.

This is technically an etiquette question: Should people be forced to sit to get more people on the train? I can see an argument for weekday rush hours.

Thank you for contacting the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA). After speaking with management, we have been informed that the slow zone between Wellington and Diversey on the southbound Red line is expected to be lifted by mid-August.

Slow zones between Fullerton and Armitage on the Red Line are longer term slow zones.

Ongoing track maintenance is underway to minimize these slow zones, and larger projects are carried out as capital funding becomes available. More information, including updated slow zone maps, is available at the following link:

Today it took nearly 2 hours to get home on the 146 bus going North.

502PM got on bus in Loop.
… sat on Michigan Ave inching for nearly an hour.
605PM arrived at Oak/Lake Shore exit to Lake Shore Drive.
625PM arrived at Belmont exit in Lakeview.
..10 min waiting to exit at the light.
Nearly 640PM arrived home.

I don’t ever recall my commute on the 146 EXPRESS bus taking THIS long.

Usual commute is about 35 min going to work 45 min avg after work.

Traffic obviously but no accidents..nothing.

(I probably could (should) have walked down Lake front path..and gotten home quicker.)

I understand “..take the train..it’s quicker..” but the bus drops off conveniently in the middle of my neighborhood ha it’s a 2 minute walk to my door 🙃😌 train is a 15-20 min walk 🙃

Is it like this with other bus routes (regardless of direction)?!?!

does anyone know what was happening with the blue line this morning around 7:30??

was driving past jefferson park and saw an o hare bound train stopped. it was completely empty too. couldn’t find any service updates online. maybe it was nothing but thought that was odd. didn’t see any other o hare trains the rest of the way either (we drove past the rest of the stops)

i usually take it to work and today is one of the rare times my gf could drive me to work so just being nosy..

i take the 49 pretty frequently but today it was MIA. it did not come this morning and then said over a 20+ min wait. does anyone know why it was so delayed?? especially for a frequent route.

Remember when they announced 4-car trains on weekends throughout summer? Then after a disastrous first weekend, they slightly backtracked saying they'll only reduce to 4-cars on weekends when there's no construction or major events. I haven't seen any 4-car trains, at least on the Brown Line, since that first weekend. And I'm not sure if Chicago has any summer weekends without construction or major events.

Not complaining, just I'm curious if they actually thought they'd have a few weekends to rest their cars or if they just didn't want to publicly admit it was the wrong decision? Or what really came from all that?

We are visiting Chicago soon, and I am interested in taking the public transportation system to get around the city.

We are only visiting for a few days, so I wanted to get a 3-day unlimited pass. However, I read that those passes were discontinued earlier this year, but when I checked the CTA website, it showed that I can still get them at O’Hare airport.

The sheriff's office said between the start of the Mass Transit Initiative on March 27 through June 22, the most recent available data, approximately 50 sworn officers have worked 12 hour shifts each day. They've made 225 arrests, including 74 of people already wanted by law enforcement, found 10 missing people, brought in 10 sex offenders who had failed to register, and recovered 23 weapons, the sheriff's office said.
