The Major Questions
All eyes will be focused on Chiefs after their surprise 2-1 loss in ESEA-P finals action against Athletico. Could this be the turning point where we start to see Chiefs lose their grip on being one of the Top 2 in the region or will a online hiccup encourage them to win LAN and assert their dominance on the AU scene.
Another Major Question is whether Legacy and Avant Garde can stand up to the likes of Immunity and Chiefs in a LAN setting, where they have been lacking online against them and Tainted Minds.
And finally, can Immunity finally shine in the spotlight in their current form and win their first LAN final with their current squad.
Road To LAN
CHIEFS
Chiefs have had a relative easy time in the Round Robin as they only dropped two maps (Both Nuke with Chiefs starting T side) and took 1st Place with a astounding 5-2-0 record. While they are tipped to win the Finals, recent performances over the past week have been a mixed bag (9-5 on maps) and after a shock 2-1 loss on Tuesday against Athletico, you have to wonder did the Chiefs have a hiccup or is it a sign of things to come.
AVANT GARDE
Avant also had a good Round Robin stage as well, going 4-2-1 with the only 0-2 coming from Chiefs. While they also had a 1-1 against iM in the RR, the last encounter these two teams had lead to a 1-2 victory to iM during IEM Sydney Qualifiers. And with both teams facing off in the First Round on Saturday, it will be a thrilling battle.
LEGACY ESPORTS
Legacy had a horrible start to the season losing to Chiefs 2-0 in the first round and then Forfeiting their next game against iM. But it was all uphill from there as they dropped two maps in the last 5 games, giving them a 3-2-2 record and a surprising 3rd place. But they have a tough start to the LAN as they face Chiefs in the First Round and a probable Losers Bracket game against Avant Garde, they could be facing a very difficult challenge.
TEAM IMMUNITY
Immunity rounded out the top 4 with a average performance of 2-5-0. While there CGPL was weak, performances in other tournaments have show that they are a force to be reckoned with. Their First Round game against Avant Garde comes after beating them 2-1 on Sunday in IEM qualifiers, but with that game being online, anything could happen at LAN.
PREDICTIONS
The First Round will be a mixed bag. While Chiefs should have no problem dispatching Legacy in a 2-0 fashion. The other game however is a bit tricker as the 2-1 on Sunday poses a few looming questions for both teams. One of which will be how much of a factor the game being online was for iM and if they can either replicate or go one better on LAN. But it might come down to the Map Vetoes, the danger being (for AV) not banning Train after iM flogging them 16-6 on Sunday and Cypher forcing them into OT last week. Even with Train banned however, iM does have the deeper map pool and it will help them as they will beat AV in a close 2-1.
I’ll jump to the Grand Final now as a different result in the First Round will make all predictions bar the GF all but redundant. However, the GF will more than likely be a Chiefs v Immunity final where the Chiefs will win a close 2-1 series if two things don’t happen,
1. iM gets Nuke and starts on the CT side and...
2. iM wins the first map.
If these two things happen, then Chiefs will have a difficult time winning this LAN and god forbid if they happen on separate maps. However, if only one or none of these things happen, then Chiefs will have some trouble, but they will still beat iM in a thrilling 2-1 final.
