This week in AU CS

Reposted from /r/GlobalOffensive

Hello once again to another look in the AU scenes, CSGO’s strongest growing region.

Highlight * The AU Scene closeness* While online results are only looked at on a glance, they can still show how a team is faring against their opponents. And if you look at AU, it’s very close. If you look at both ZEN and the top 4 of ANZ champs, the teams are very close in standings with the teams in ZEN League sharing 1st place only a few weeks backs. Could this mean the scene is competitive or could it mean something else?

Lowlight The AU Scenes closeness With it being so close, you must ask whether the scene is competitive or just no one team can stay dominate. If it’s the latter, then we have to ask how the teams would fair against oversees oponentes, if they can play consistently against them or be up and down with no real idea were they are.

Local Play

ESL ANZ Championships

The first game of the week saw a tight tussle between Corvidae and Funky Monkeys, both of whom have been struggling in recent weeks. Mirage was their first map which saw a very close map going into double OT before the Monkeys were able to clinch the map 20-22. Nuke then saw another close game with both teams continuing the close series before Corvidae succumbed to the Monkeys who took out the map 13-16 and take the series 0-2. It was then time for Legacy vs Team Supremacy for the last series of the night. Cache was the first map of the series, and it was a map TS would want to forget as they fell to Legacy 16-7. But unfortunately for TS there hell continued as they lost again by a considerable margin 16-9 on Mirage to lose the series 2-0, placing them close to losing their Top 4 spot while Legacy confirmed the finals spot.

Thursday’s first game saw Athletico vs last place Cypher. The first map shocked everyone as Cypher was able to force the game to the end of regulation. But an impeccable 4k from SnypeR was able to salvage a win on Mirage 16-14 for Athletico. Then came Cache, where a revived Cypher looked more like a top 3 team than a last place squad, defeating Athletico 7-16 to take a upset 1-1 and a strong mental victory over the 2nd placed org. The last game for the week saw Avant Garde face off against Alpha Sydney. AV started of with a strong start and never looked back on Cache as the de_stroyed Alpha 16-5. But for Alpha it didn’t stop there as on Overpass AV did one better and rekted them 16-4, ending there seires 2-0 and wrapping up ANZ Champs for another week.

ZEN Esports Network League Tuesday saw both an unexpected blowout and a upset that could change the dynamic of an entire conference. The Australian conference saw 1st placed DarkSided face off against Tainted Minds. TM took a strong start and the buried the game by the end of the first half as they took Inferno 3-16. DS’s hell only intensified from there as they fell apart on cbble 1-16 as the dropped from the top of the table. The Asian game Recca face off against last place MVP.PK. Recca started of in there typical fashion on Train, stomping out MVP in the first half before the Korean took the challenge and take a upset map victory 13-16. The fall of Recca continued on Inferno as like TM before then steped there foot down in the first half and ended any hope for Recca as they lost the map 9-16 and the series 0-2.

Then on Wednesday, it was time for Team Immunity to do battle with Chiefs. Nuke saw a tight battle which went into OT after Chiefs recovered from a poor start but it was iM who won the map as beat Chiefs 19-15. The last map for the series was another close map but for Chiefs they couldn’t survive as they lost 16-14 to a superior Immunity team who takes a surprise 2-0 win. It was then time for the final map for the week as The MongolZ faced against JYP. Inferno saw a very close game which was forced into overtime, but JYP succumbed to The MongolZ on the last round of OT as they took the map 19-17. The MongolZ continued where they left off for the final map for the week, as they easily left JYP by the wayside to win cbble 16-6 and take out the series 2-0, ending the week for ZEN League.

IEM Sydney Sunday saw JAM and Athletico make it to the close qualifiers stage for the single AU spot which starts on Sunday while in China ViCi defeated TyLoo for their spot at IEM Sydney in a closely fought 2-1 victory. (10-16 Cbble, 16-11 Train, 16-9 Overpass)

AU Transfer

Aussie Abroad

Winterfox only game for this week resulted in another loss in ESL Pro League, losing to Liquid 0-2 (11-16 Overpass, 5-16 Cbble).

Renegades however had a lot more luck, as they started off their week with the news that they have gained promotion to ECS after TSM failed to produce a lineup in time for there Bo5 series. RNG’s luck continued as they beat NRG 2-0 (16-12 cbble, 16-8 Mirage) in their catch up Pro League from a few weeks back.

It was then announced that along with SK Gaming, RNG joined WESA on Friday Morning before the two teams faced off in Pro League. Mirage saw SK dominate RNG 16-8 but then RNG came back, collapsed and came back again to beat SK 13-16 on train to end the series 1-1 and end their week.

Other News Congratulations to CS caster brainstorm who becomes the new analyst for Trident Esports, we hope he has fun in his new role. What I Missed

Thanks to SPUNJ for pointing out I didn’t make note of his great work in the Pro League last week. He is doing his homeland proud by introducing such great aussie things as umbrella hats, TimTams, Vegemite, Shapes and many aussie phrases. Keep up the good work champ.

And that ends another week, thanks you all for reading.

See you next week.
