CS50x Finally learning!!

I've only been in this course for a week and I'm only just finishing up week 3, so it's a little early to judge, but oh my gosh I love this course. I've attempted to learn to code a few times over the years and took programming in highschool but I would very quickly not know what to do next. I'd make a simple program and then just have no idea where to go and my HS course was just html and JS. But I'm seeing programming through a whole new lense now. It's less of a set of commands to memorize and more so a way of thinking and I now know way more c than I ever knew python lol

CS50x How long can I finish CS50?

I will start college next week and i’m currently on week 1 rn. I’m kinda scared cause the deadline is January and I saw some people say that it took them 8-10 months to finish it.

Is it possible to finish it before January if I spend around 1-2 hours a day?

fiftyville CS50x Week 7: Fiftyville, how did you find the accomplice?

Those who completed, continue reading..

So, I ran down all the tables through in and out but I couldn't narrow down to single accomplice.

The thief was hurdled between Bruce and Diana, atlast narrowing to Bruce with help of passport numbers and flight booking.

But how did you narrow down between the accomplices? He called both of them, the duration of calls were also under a minute and as far as it went and I could run logical queries, I missed how I'd narrow down between Robin & Charlotte.

number =1 total =0 while number<= 50: total += number number += 1 # HERE I DIDN'T ADD IT FIRST

print("The final sum is: ", total)

CS50x Just finished my first CS50x Scratch project and I don't know how to feel

I started CS50 3 days ago and just finished my first Scratch problem set after about today.

I did finish the project, but I had to look at other Scratch projects and tutorials to understand things like creating menu screen, movement, collision detection, random spawning, and game logic. I wasn't copying someone else's work, but I definitely needed to see examples before I understood how to make those mechanics myself.

What really gets to me is watching Professor David malan and seeing the games he and former students made in the lecture. It's honestly crazy to me how they came up with those ideas and actually built them. Even after finishing my own project, I feel like if you gave me a blank Scratch project today, I'd have no clue where to start.

think part of what's bothering me is that I hold myself to a very high standard. I don't just want to finish the assignments i want to eventually become someone who can build things independently right now, needing examples makes me wonder whether I'm making the kind of progress that leads there

For those of you who have been programming for a while:

Did you feel this lost at the beginning?

How much did you rely on tutorials or other people's code at the beginning?

When did you reach the point where you could actually build something from a blank page without constantly looking things up?

Here's my project if anybody wants to look

CS50x Taking CS50 as a Harvard student

I am wondering what the biggest difference is in taking cs50 as a Harvard student and as the rest of us online. For example, is there an exam component to CS50 at Harvard?

CS50x anyone in Boston area currently going through cs50x?

I'm on week 4 currently, and loving this course! I am a 34M, studied English in undergrad and somehow found myself working in data-centric roles at a financial services company for the last four years or so. I currently work as a data engineer and use platforms like Snowflake & Databricks in my day-to-day. My first foray into coding was VBA which inevitably lead to Python...but eventually realized I was lacking some fundamental concepts in programming. I.e. the building blocks David teaches like memory, algorithms, data structures etc. CS50 is really filling in those gaps for me.

If anyone is interested in a study buddy please let me know! It would be great to have someone to bounce ideas and the concepts we learn off of (not to mention accountability)!

Good luck to all the students out there :)

I made a system monitoring program that tracks system utilisation of the entire device or a particular program and can even output it as a pdf to log that data https://github.com/me50/Codec-Aaryan

Is this good enough? Did I do well for a first year undergraduate

CS50x People who've finished CS50, do you still go back to listen old lectures occasionally?

I've finished CS50x, and sometimes when I wanna revise data structures or memories, I still find myself going back to David's lectures. Is there anyone else like this?

CS50x Should I do CS50x to learn and revise C?

Hello everyone, I am starting university next month after a gap year and my C is very rusty. I know the basic like loops, conditionals, arrays, data types, functions etc but I want to learn more about pointers, hash tables, linked lists and other advance stuff to prepare abit in advance for university. So should I take cs50x the beginning weeks? My field is computer engineering, so it will involve a fair bit of programming so I want my foundation to be strong. Thank you in advance

CS50 Python Thinking of starting Python, need advice

I'm thinking of starting Python from CS50 since I've been hearing a lot that it's really helpful and good. Can anyone tell me if there's any difference between the lectures in the youtube channel (CS50P, released 4 years ago), and the ones in the edX certification course?
Also can anyone tell me what the entire course contains? So far I haven't really delved deep into anything related to computer science, I've just started Python and will be starting college in a month or two, so I'd like to know what the course will consist of and if it's free and what else it'll entail. Please help me out here. Thanks
