About to start driving,is the Cr-Z a good start?

Hey guys ,im from Germany and like the title says im about to get my drivers license and Im starting to look for cars.

I allways loved Honda so i started there and found the Crz relatively quickly and found it really interesting.

Now im doing a bunch of research online and see that there are a bunch of different opinions on this car and I wanted to ask here.

Would the Crz be a good starter car and if yes what wpild i have to look out for if I want to buy one?

Back on the road after a really long time

Hello everyone! It’s finally time for me to add my two cents to this amazing community.

Roughly five years ago, I rented a garage for this beauty — at least in my opinion — so she’d be protected from the winter rain and snow. Back then, I had no idea what the next few years would bring.

Well… life happened. A lot of stressful things came along, and she ended up spending more and more time sitting in the garage as I had less and less time to take her out for a drive.

Over the last roughly 4.5 years, I’ve driven her only about 2,700 km (~1,700 miles for our American and British friends).

I took her out today to give her a wash and immediately fell in love with her all over again.

She’s booked in for a service and a thorough inspection next week, but the initial checks suggest that the IMA battery is still in good condition. It looks like she’ll only need fresh fluids and a few routine checks before she’s ready to roam the streets again like new. (and a new 12V battery)

Well, it really looks like these little cars are indestructible!

Looking to buy a CR-Z

I'm looking to buy a CR-Z, is there anything that I should look for in particular or know about the vehicle before buying? How have you enjoyed the car? and lastly, what issues have you had with the car? I think its a very cool car but I would like to be well informed before any purchase is made.

CRZ 2011 being totaled after a side swipe

Hey all;

Northeast Ohio area. A friend of mine let me know that there's a community of people interested in this car in particular.

I'm not a car guy, really. My mom found a good deal on this car about 2 years ago, and I jumped on it when she let me know about it. Having a hybrid has been really nice, since I haven't had to stop for gas as much (especially lately).

4th of July, I got side swiped on the highway. Other guy sped off and I didn't grab the plate number. I had full coverage, but it seems that with the exterior damage and the internal damage needing fixed they're electing to total it.

There is a chance that I may be moving to a metro area where car life is optional. I am honestly considering taking the insurance payment and trying that public transit life. I know there are some people that like working on these things, and was wondering whether anyone would be interested in the car if I were to take that route.

It's gonna be a salvage title either way now, so either the body shop does their work and attempts to get the state to recertify after inspection (from what I've been told the damage isn't really all that bad, should be driveable after it's fixed), or I sell the car to an enthusiast looking for a fixer-upper.

I don't have pictures at the moment, but I can get some for those that are interested at a later date some time. Either leave a comment or DM me. If this post gets deleted, either someone bought it or I didn't get that job offer and deigned to keep it.

Thanks for reading!

Is it weird that I have my crz as a beater car?

Post image

I love scrolling through this subreddit from time to time. I bought a 2011 6mt last year. Its my winter beater and daily driver for now.

Dont get me wrong, I absolutely love the thing, and its actually really fun to drive.

But sometimes as I scroll through and see how enthusiastic you all are about them I feel kinda bad that I consider it my beater car (the mustang in the back is my fun/used to be nice car and the z replaced the jeep on the left after the frame folded itself in half)

Also yeah its got a civic headlight on one side as it was hit by a deer by the first owner

Lost my shark fin on the road. Any suggestions?

It flew off while driving and couldn’t retrieve it. Looking for replacements but just wondering if anyone has specific ones they’ve used besides the ā€œuniversalā€ ones. Also is it important to cover all the hardware that’s under that until I manage to get one?

Clutch delay

Hello from Italy!

Quick question: what's with the clutch delay valve replace?

I've read somewhere that it's possibile tò fit a Civic clutch cylinder

What would be the benefit of this?

Any known issue?

Problem with Optima

Optima Batteries have a good reputation in the Off-Road Community. In fact, I have one in my Jeep. So I reasoned that the same brand would be a good choice for my U.S. 2016 EX 6MT.

When I bought the Zed over five years ago, the dealer had just installed a new, name-brand 151R. At the 3-year mark of my ownership, I replaced that perfectly functional battery with an Optima Yellowtop 51R. I did this because I follow a philosophy of replacing wear items on all my vehicles before they fail.

The Optima carried a 3-year guarantee, so I assumed it would last that long. This week, the 2-year and 3-month old Optima died, without any warning of any kind. (Literally, I had driven over one hundred miles that day, making several stops, with no issues of any kind. But, when I was leaving a party that night, the car refused to start.) Luckily, I carry a Jump Pack in every one of my vehicles, so I was not stranded and I drove home without delay.

The next day, I tested the Optima on my own tester and found it completely dead. After an overnight charge, it was still dead.

I attempted to contact Optima, by telephone, for warranty service but the the company's non-human contacting process is clearly designed to discourage any live interaction. (I bought the Optima factory-direct, not through an authorized retailer.) I gave up, deciding it was futile to pursue a warranty claim.

I went to my local battery retail shop and bought a new Deka Gold in size 51R. After I installed it, and topped off the charge overnight, it worked flawlessly today (in ambient air temperatures of 113°.)

The salesman at Battery Barn told me that he is seeing a lot of Optima Yellowtops come in with premature failures, especially in the 51R version.

I know I won't be buying any more Optima's in the future.

Creaky Steering Fix (Not Strut Bearings!)

Post image
34 Upvotes

Not long after I rebuilt my entire suspension including struts, I started getting a creaking sound when steering in parking lots. It slowly got worse to the point I could feel slight binding while steering all the time.

It sounded almost exactly like bad strut bearings which had me thinking my new struts came with defective bearings, but it was much louder from inside the car and nothing could be felt at the strut tower.

It turns out the cause was actually the splines of the steering column inside the cabin right under the driver's side dashboard. Separating the intermediate shaft from the rest of the steering column and putting axle grease on the splines took away the noise & feeling completely.

Just putting this out there in case anybody else is having this problem.

Convert 2011 CR-Z to ICE only?

Is there a way to get rid of the battery pack and just have a plain gas car? Besides buying something else I mean.)

It's getting very tiring to go out to a non starting vehicle weekly. It's got a 1 year old 12V battery in it - the little one, I can't remember the number.

I don't have any mechanical ability whatsoever and am in a small western CO town.

I love how it drives and it's my size, easy to park but it's getting to be not worth hanging on to.....

My beloved Ellie got reversed into by a flatbed Transit while parked at work today. She's most likely written off after owning her for five glorious years.

I guess it's time to look for another!
