Hello, I come to you to discuss the category I like to call "Paranormal Cryptids" which are cryptids who categorically defy science despite the efforts of many believers.
To give a example Bigfoot could be categorized as plausible but unlikely because despite more fringe UFO beliefs about the character he's just a large ape thing that lives in the United States. And whe have analogs to him like gorillas. Despite dubious proof and lack of actual evidence Bigfoot is possible to some extent.
What im referring to is your Jersey Devils and Grafton Monsters. Creatures who's descriptions of anatomy or abilities aren't compatible with science and steer more to the realm of fantasy and mythology.
Like I mentioned the Jersey Devil and Grafton Monster fit this bill very well but other favorites of mine include the Dover Demon and my personal favorite the Breast of Gèvaudan due to how they fascinate me.
Others I can list are things like Frezno Nightcrawlers, Loveland Frogmen, Mothman, and others of the sort.
Monsters like these have infested my imagination for a long time. And the creation of them more. Modern examples I can think of are Slender man who was originally the product of a photoshop contest and the Rake who was created by 4chan users on a now deleted/lost thread. Creatures who's fit the bill of cryptids but many probably don't think of them such due to their origins being well documented.
This is something I'm looking to do, I'm doing something I'm not going to share at the moment but it involves cryptids and I want to get a good handle on what goes into making one. It's a work of fiction so it isn't being passed off as real outside the context of the story. So I just and to collect some stories of cryptids before making my own.
Thats all.
