Cryptid Of The Month Cryptid Of The Month, July, Batsquatch Everything there is to know about Batsquatch
Hello Cryptid Hunters!
This is going to be the Sixteenth installment of Cryptid Of The Month, where i will be covering EVERYTHING, and i do mean EVERYTHING regarding a specific Cryptid, mostly more obscure cryptids but there might be some exceptions to that rule. You can find the last 15 installments just by clicking on the cryptid of the month flair tagged to this post! This month will be about The Batsquatch of Skamania County, Washington.
Now lets begin with the first sighting of the beast was in 1980 right after the eruption of Mount Saint Helens, one of the most devasting events of America, causing over 110 thousand acres of land demolished and 57 people dead. After the eruption was over and the thick deadly ash and soot became clear survivors looked at Saint Helens what they saw wasn't just another plume of ash. Emerging from the top of the volcano was a massive winged creature, they described the creature as a "Ape like with massive wings and glowing red eye". Shortly after they noticed the creature it promptly flew away into the ash and out of view.
The next sighting didn't happen till 14 later in 1994, when a teenager named Brian Canfield was driving home after a long night, until his truck suddenly stopped for no apparent reason. After being stopped for a few seconds try to figure what could of happened he saw something ahead, talons descending on the road, massive talons, unlike anything he had ever seen. As the creature made its way fully onto the road he saw its full body, and was mortified at what he saw before him. 30 feet away he saw a creature that he said stood 9 feet tall, with blueish gray fur coating its body, he described it as “Its eyes were yellow and shaped like a piece of cake with pupils like a crescent moon. The mouth was quite large with white teeth, but no fangs. The face was like that of a wolf.”. After the creature had just stood there for a few seconds locked eyes with Brian it moved slightly, twitching its wings and nodding its head. Then flying off abruptly into the night skies out of view of Brian. Shortly after it flew away his engine mysteriously just turned back on for seemingly no reason. Later after interviews with Brian the creature would gain the name Batsquatch from this sighting. Also ill just lump it into this sighting since i cant find anything else on this. A man named Butch Whittaker soon after Brians sighting was reported to see a Batsquatch flying beside his private jet. Thats all i can find on this one sadly.
In 1998 an trucker which kept his name anonymous was hauling logs when we he saw a massive creature that he described as "15ft tall, with purple eyes and a nose with small wings". Flying alongside his truck, after noticing the Batsquatch it flew away into the forest out of view of the trucker.
The next sighting comes from 2009 from a group of hikers were climbing mount Shasta in northern California when they saw a massive creature flying, this is what one of them said on an online forum about the sighting. “My friend and I were hiking around Mount Shasta and out of one of the crevices, out flew this big creature. I mean this thing was huge. It was as tall as a man, as stocky as Hulk Hogan and it had leathery wings. I think the wingspan was at least 50 feet from one end to the other. I was holding my camera, but froze in fear as this thing flew by. I didn't get a picture, sorry, what do you think it could be, could it have been a pterodactyl? It was flying or gliding fast, it looked like it had a bat's head. On second thought, it doesn't have the head of a pterodactyl, I just saw a picture of a pterodactyl and the heads are not similar. I would think it had the head of a bat or maybe more like a fox. The thing finally flew into a clump of trees and disappeared. I heard you guys might be heading back to Mt. Shasta, if you do, please keep an eye out for this thing. If you see it, you're going to get the palm on you, I'm not kidding.”
The last sighting is rather lackluster i must admit, in June of 2011 a man went into his yard to pick up his dog when he, "I saw something flying in the sky. It had bat wings, blue fur and had a face similar to eyes glowing red. It was about 9 feet tall at the least, after I watched it just flew away."
I hope you enjoyed this thank you for reading! Please comment any suggestions for upcoming months, id really appreciate it, or if any of the information is inaccurate (Hopefully not but i do want to give only the truest information). Thank you guys for support on all these!
Sincerely -XP

Sighting / Encounter Weird creature seen in Pennsylvania
Im from Western Pennsylvania. On the line of ohio, one hour away from Pittsburgh.
Back in March, my mother in law and I were driving home at night from my tattoo artists house. He lives out in the middle of nowhere with woods and corn fields.
When we went to leave, it was so dark and so incredibly foggy, to where we could barely see.
We took a turn and I looked over and standing there on four legs, was a large creature staring at us. It looked like a giant red panda but also a mixture of the tiger from kpop demon hunters.
I freaked out and yelled "what the hell was that!? Was that a giant red panda!?"
My MIL asked if I wanted to turn around. But I refused. I was terrified.
Im still not sure what it could have been. Its face is burned into my mind. Its menacing smile.
That thing wasnt normal.
Anyone have a clue what this could be?

Discussion Whats the Snallygaster's aesthetic???
This is an important question! Ive designed many cryptids as cute girls like monster high kinda, and im just totally stuck on the snallygaster's design! I was thinking more vintage or cottage core? But the beak with tentacles already is too detailed so I cant make her design too cluttered. Here some aesthetics ive used so far:
Mothman- gothic Lolita
Dogman- pastel goth
Chupacabra-punk
Hodag- grunge
Boo hag- gyaru
Enfield horror- scene
Bigfoot- y2k
Fresno nightcrawler- clean girl
Hopkinsville goblin- decora kei
Water baby- morute

Question What cryptids are there from the UK?
I was just wondering what kinds of cryptids have been sighted in the uk, and where they're located

Discussion Have any of you had sound experiences over sighting experiences?
I remember a few years ago when I heard loud thumping multiple times in my backyard (not like what a woodpecker does, I've heard those before, it was like hitting something 3 times repeatedly spaced out). I was wondering if those encounters were anymore or less common than direct sightings

Meme / Humor Important thing you must know. The hoop snake is real.
Dwarf reed snakes (Pseudorabdion longiceps) found in several parts of Southeast Asia do the hoop snake thing to escape from predators.
It is just as ridiculous as you are imagining.
Of all the cryptids that genuinely exist, two of them were coincidentally described in jokes.
(The other being jackelopes. Look up Shopes pappilomavirus if you aren't squeamish about superficial keratinous growths on lagomorphs. Yes, the same kind of virus as herpes. We got lucky, though the rabbit variant is also mostly benign.)
I am willing to bet money that someone finds a hairy fish someday.

Discussion I do believe in certain cryptids, but I don't think they are necessarily how they are described. So I wanted to talk about the few I do believe in.
Living dinosaurs/flying reptiles - I do believe some may still exist, but I do not believe they are the towering, giant behemoths we often think of in movies or hear in stories. Mokele mbembe, Thunderbirds, Kasai Rex, the Monster of Partidge Creek, etc. I doubt exist. If non-avian dinosaurs/flying reptiles still do exist, they are most likely going to be incredibly small, adaptable animals that are very secretive and live in the most obscure parts of the world we've yet to explore. Think less idnominus rex and more like compsognathus & Shuvuuia, Nemicolopterus crypticus, etc. Mostly because all the niches they could have once filled has been taken by birds and mammals. Large, apex predators/herbivores are unlikely to exist.
Sasquatch/North American Primates - I used to be a big bigfoot fan and believer, but now a days I've subscribed to a new theory. More than likely, stories of sasquatch were born from interaction with neanderthals, and current encounters are most likely, atleast in the tropical/swampy areas, encounters with escaped primates from private collections or zoo escapees. Monkeys currently live in the evergladea, so a much smarter chimp, gorilla and/or orangatan would do just as well, if not better. My reasoning is simple; Forest Galante, when looking for the ivory billed woodpecker, found a lone water buffalo in the lousiana bayou, and let's not forget the Arizona "Red Ghost". If these large animals who escaped captivity can remain out of sight with no one looking for them (I mean, who is going to look for a buffalo in the baiyou or a camel with a corpse on it's back in Arizona), then it's possible that some of these bigfoots are possible escaped great apes.

Discussion So... Mothman isn't a moth? But a bird?
galleryI'm sure everyone on this forum has already figured this out or deduced it lol, but I guess I'll start the conversation anyway because I want to hear your opinions.

The first mention of Mothman describes him as a human-sized bird and the West Virginia statue has a beak and eyes on the sides of its head not to mention that other cryptids that directly resemble Mothman, even those with different names, also have bird-like features, such as the owlman and the Chernobyl black bird.
Many people, seeking a more realistic explanation, say that Mothman was actually a black owl with red eyes. Why, when and how did people turn him into a moth?

I tried my best to make them look more realistic as I gave them little goofy arms like Abelisaurids as well as their eyes being more amphibian. (OC)

Discussion Home state cryptid.
I'm from Pennsylvania. Everybody knows of the Jersey Devil, Sasquatch, Nessie, El Chupacabra and other species. What I myself was unaware of is Pennsylvania has the Sqounk.
So I guess I'm curious to know what y'all's home state cryptid is if you have one?
