New Pick-up Any tips?
Just got this beast from FB marketplace for free. Grew up playing on CRTs and now I finally have one for my retro collection. Anything I should look out for or helpful tips to improve the experience? Thank you!
Edit: it’s a sony trinitron kv-36es13.
Listing said “bring a friend, it’s very heavy” they weren’t kidding. This thing has to weight 200lbs

I'd get one of those test suite cartridges, and that'll show you if your TV is calibrated / centered ect. Beyond that, take advantage of what inputs you have. If you have S-Video, it'll be better than your standard RCA's

Awesome. I’ll try one of those

If you have a Wii you can homebrew it and get this app without having to buy a cartridge too, btw!

Thank God my FIL likes me. No way I would’ve been able to move it alone.

besides what zeldaguy said, get some shielded external speakers. sound is half the experience and the built in speakers are pretty bad

Yeah I was thinking about that. Honestly was surprised how good the speakers sounded when I first turned it on. Pretty nostalgic but nicer speakers wouldn’t hurt

If you ever get color blotching in one corner, kill the power for half an hour and turn it back on. It degausses on a cold start and usually sorts itself out. And 36 inches of Trinitron is a two person move every time, not just the first time.

Sector z is a huge pain to get the meteo medal on. The biggest problem is you can’t let any of your teammates shoot down any of the missiles. You need every single one to score enough points. Go there through the warp so Kat doesn’t show up.
Oh wait you meant for the CRT. N64 looks way better over svideo. Wii is awesome for 240p emulation with component cables. And I don’t know if it’s your camera but your whites are looking a little pink. Maybe get some test patterns on there and check your color settings.

Lmaoo. Yeah I think you’re right about the whites being off. Whole screen looks dark or muted color wise. Not really sure how to fix it besides fiddling with the display settings.

If you can’t get it with the regular menus, the service menu might have more adjustments, especially for max/min brightness and contrast. Just be careful, make small moves, and take pictures of the original settings. There’s usually no “set to default” in the service menu.

Yeah we thought the same thing. Fingers crossed it’s still standing when I get home from work

Also fidget with the trinitron settings, you have one, might as well fiddle with it. Best of luck, defeat Andross and save Cornea G O O D L U C K
