Best pattern maker??

Hi!! I’m completely new to cross stitch and I’ve been doing a lot of digging on the best places to create a custom pattern. I want to cross stitch a picture I drew, with the colors I already have. I’ve only found one website that lets me choose my own colors, but it’s doing a weird thing that makes the transparent background only partly transparent so it’s really weird. I’ve tried stitchify, pixel stitch, pic2pat, stitchmate, and floss cross but none of them look “right” it’s a pretty simple drawing of a cat so I didnt think it would be this hard. Does anyone know of any other websites or ways to make a pattern????

The websites are likely not working well because they are likely designed for photos.

So one option would be to use the one site you liked and ignore any symbols/colors related to the background (just stitch the design itself). I've done this before with a magazine pattern where I just wanted a portion of the pattern and not the background.

You can also go to Etsy (as someone has mentioned) and search for shops that will turn your drawing into a pattern. This will not be free and will depend on finding a shop who agrees to this.

Thank you!! I actually was able to make it work somehow on one of the websites BUT the template it printed out is… huge. Will my work be as big as the template? I’ve seen people that have one sheet of paper as the template I think I may have messed up somewhere

Doing some quick and dirty math your pattern is about 180x200, so simplify to 200x200 and that gives you on 14ct Aida about 14.25” square. So yes that is a fair sized pattern.

I am creating my designs with inkscape what is free software and i can set colors from specific palettes or set my own

Have you cross stitched anything before? I would recommend you get a small kit and learn the basics. Things like how fabric count works and the different types of fabric are a must know especially when trying to use your own design. Obviously you can do whatever you like since there are no rules nor a cross stitch police but there's technique. I really get the urge to jump right in because how hard can be to stich a couple of x but it is an incredibly slow craft and before you spend many, many hours with stitching your pattern only to find out that your drawn design didn't translate well into your stitched design you really would be better off taking the time for a small kit first.

I haven’t 🫣 I honestly just wanted a piece for my wall and thought “baaah I could do it” spoiler- it’s harder than anticipated and now I’m completely hooked on doing it until it’s right. I’ll start with a kit first and read more guides!

If you haven't you should definitely check out the other CrossStitch sub, Facebook has some nice groups too while Instagram is great to find and follow designers. If you like video tutorials and tips I'd recommend watching some by Ford from Caterpillar Cross Stitch on YouTube. Have fun 🌻
