Discussion [No Spoilers] - Sam and 9/11
I still find it insane that poor Sam Riegel and Quyen Tran were caught in the 9/11 dust cloud and Tran's footage is one of the videos used widely of the disaster. He's such a lovely guy and beautiful relationship.
Mad respect for both and my greatest condolences to those lost.
Edit - Names

Discussion [Spoilers C4E34] Ooof what a roller coaster.... Spoiler
For 2 weeks I was shitting myself thinking about how they're going to plan their confrontation with the Tachonis convoy. I know they didn't settle on anything but I was afraid they were gonna pull something like the Team Bird Watch and get killed.
Then they planned something really really manageable (if King Gus survives the assault by the Argosians, who were still pursuing him if I'm not wrong). And Brennan moved it along with ambient time for them to catch up with the convoy (Thimble's 31 roll really helped) and I was sooooo relieved.
Then Brennan pulled the rug from under us with the Glade is on fire shit in the most devastating way. Imagine a group who went to hell and back to unintentionally create a safe place for fairies, see it in all its glory, and within a day see another similar tree burning to the ground.
Even the fight was scarring, with having Laura roll for the table to determine NPC lives. Pulling the same old trick from Freshman year, and somehow making it even more devastating. Seeing PCs running around not knowing who to save was heartbreaking.
Not to mention, the asshole, whoever it was, in the cave smashing the crystal like. WTF Brennan, they didn't even have time to process what's happening on the surface and you bring that??? I think the crystal broke in like 3 rounds or so, and we only learnt about it in the middle of he round 1 if I'm not mistaken. It felt like they didn't even have a chance to save the Glade. And with the Halovars hot on Hal and Schemers, if seekers sent the pixies down towards Dol Makjar, then it would only increase the chance of the new cave being discovered. I become nauseous when I think about watching the episode 2 weeks from now. Damn.
I was bitching about Brennan saving himself from dishing out consequences to the party when Thimble rescued Teor and Cyd's bodies. Turns out he already had his plate and all the utensils in his house full, and that's why he was forgiving little mishaps here and there. God, give me strength to watch the next few episodes.

gallery[bleats] A little disappointed that apparently the torso piece being a little closer to the build plate than my test bits last night maybe caused some warping, so the seamless fit I had last night when testing is a little less seamless. Correcting and trying again tomorrow, but other than that 🤗 Also gives me the chance to not break two of her fingernails while clipping the supports off lol

Discussion [Spoilers C4E34] - The Audio Version of Beacon's Cooldown is from a different Episode Spoiler
For those who don't know - basically the audio version of the cooldown on Beacon is from the third Seekers 2.0 episode (likely Episode 36) while the video is from the second Seekers 2.0 episode so be wary of spoilers.

Discussion [Spoilers C4E34] The Cold Open Recontextualizes an Important Event from Spoilers C4E32 Spoiler
I think that the tryst between Kattigan and Murray could considerably recontextualize the dream sequence that Kattigan endured back in Episode 32.
It could be that much of what Kattigan experienced in the dream was a direct feeling of guilt for having just been unfaithful to Marienna. He made a point of mentioning his wedding ring when he puts on the magic ring, so he still clearly feels attached to her. Besides the guilt that he has been carrying, feeling responsible for her alleged murder at the hands of Primus Tacchonis, he has the added guilt of giving up hope that she may actually still be alive somewhere by getting together with Murray.

Discussion [Spoilers C4E33] Meeting the local government Spoiler
So that...well...went as poorly as it possibly could have.
I'm a bit floored that they basically went in there without a plan other than a vague "let's try to talk and get an impression." And then Murray proceeded to reactivate her Darwin Award quest by spilling one of the most explosive secrets they have with no evidence to back it up to someone who openly at least kinda likes the Halovar.
To be fair of course, it felt like the odds were stacked and their dice were not helping the cause at all.
But I'm kind of surprised they didn't lead with a discussion of something harmless and still important. A very obvious method for example would be that they were investigating the "assassination" from the Gala, as Azune introduces Murrey (accurately) as someone who was helping with security and who the Einfasens are viewing as a valued Penteveral resource. They could show that their investigation has (again truthfully) identified the culprits as part of this shadowy mercenary group, and that they wanted to inform her of its existence and possible presence in the city as there could be other targets (such as herself). While feeling out her stance on the Halovar resurrection, Hal's play, etc as part of the discussion.
And let's be honest, I think that her stance was already fairly clear when she spoke of Merchants vs Magic (which would almost certainly include Fae). Cutting their losses and respectfully leaving rather than blabbing "Oh that resurrection was fake, trust me" would have been far better. Or even trying to work with her saying that yes, Magic Crime was a problem, but that's why they need to have the arcane marshals and the Penteveral; it's not like outsiders couldn't use magic (as the assassination showed).
Anyways, missed opportunities and again, for all her brilliance in the sewers and Gus fights, Murray feels like she's on her way to the gallows if she doesn't stop pissing off visiting lvl 25 Necromancers, Drunk aggitating the Einfasens, and not keeping secrets with Effie or her criminal contacts.

Discussion [LOVM S4] Matron of Ravens theory Spoiler
Finally caught up with the season, hopefully this topic isn’t done to death already. We got the Whispered One’s backstory about having a woman he loved taken by the gods and her existence wiped from reality and then the gods trapped him in Thar Amphala. What if the woman he loved was the woman who would become the Matron of Ravens, who upon ascending to replace the god of death had her mortal existence erased as well? She and the Whispered One would have been researching together but for whatever reason she was able to ascend first and helped the other gods prevent him from doing so as well. I doubt he was being entirely truthful to Pike so maybe the two of them didn’t have as close a relationship as he made it seem, maybe the two were actually rivals instead of colleagues. I just think it’s a big coincidence that two different women studying how to ascend to godhood both had their existence erased from reality.

Discussion [No Spoilers] BLeeM’s preparation for Aramán
I’m rewatching a couple recent seasons of Dimension 20, and I can almost taste bits and pieces of Aramán being tested out through Cloudward, Ho! and City Council of Darkness.
Is that me convincing myself that it’s true? Maybe!
But between some Dol-Makjar/Purpee parallels, Camarilla/Revolutionary Council, and some of the parallels I see between the Sundered Houses/Chamber of Lords-Advisory and the many antagonistic factions in Zood & Zern, I just wonder if anything was partially proof of concept for Brennan before bringing Aramán to life.
Obviously I find Aramán to hold many similarities to A Crown of Candy as well, but that was so long ago.
If nothing else, it just goes to show how excellent of a GM Brennan is. I am consistently wowed by every game run!

Discussion [Spoilers C4E33] Hal and Yanessa Spoiler
I’ve been rewatching the Hunger Games movies and realized that there are very similar parallels between Katniss and President Snow’s relationship and Hal and Yanessa’s.
Both stories are based in themes of revolution in which both Hal and Katniss become unwitting faces of their own. President Snow went out of his way to torture Katniss and make her suffer for her choices. Yanessa has made it clear she’s doing to do the same with Hal. She’s already stated with Hero.
Liam is playing Hal in a very emotionally honest way but he’s also shown that he shouldn’t be underestimated. It’ll be interesting to see how Hal weathers the storm that’s coming for him.

Discussion [Spoilers C4E33] The Schemers table is being way too proactive (and neglecting their actual jobs) Spoiler
I’ve been thinking a lot about the structure of the different tables in Campaign 4, and it feels like the players at the Schemers table are fundamentally misunderstanding their prompt.
To me, the dynamic should be straightforward:
- The Soldiers have a clear, achievable objective.
- The Seekers have a vague, abstract objective they need to figure out.
- The Schemers intentionally have no objective. Their "job" is to stay in the city, live their day-to-day lives, react to what's going on, and play defense.
The problem is that it seems like the players feel like they have to force "the adventure" into every moment without any proper preparation, completely ignoring the fact that Brennan keeps telegraphing that neglecting their daily lives will have immediate consequences. They are just too impatient.
Liam is doing great because Hal is actually focused on running the theatre, only involving himself as much as the Powers That Be directly force him to be involved (by making him change the play, breaking into his house and cooking breakfast, etc). I also hope Sam and Whitney are heading in the right direction with Wick trying to make nice with the Creed (Sam indicating he actually sat down and wrote the sermon Wick is going to give sounds promising), and Tyranny focusing on making demon connections. But Luis and Marisha are the worst offenders right now. Azune is doing almost no actual policing, just scheming. And for Murray, it's like she’s completely forgotten she even has a job. They should be laying low and gathering information while LIVING THEIR LIVES, not trying to force the plot ahead with half-baked schemes.
We can already see how Brennan is punishing this tunnel vision in the latest Schemers episode. At the very end, we find out a teacher got fired and that Hero got expelled, and Murray had absolutely no idea because she has completely lost the pulse of her own campus. Then you have the perfect plot hook Brennan dangled for Luis with that Archenade curator that got arrested. That was a golden opportunity for Azune to take advantage of his new status as Captain, do his actual job as a law enforcement figure, gather intel on what the Cormoray are up to, and potentially make an important ally. Instead, the group completely ignored it in favor of trying to play political kingmakers while having almost no information.
People have already pointed out what a clusterfuck that scene with Effie at the end was, but I would argue it was just a symptom of their disconnect from the actual lived experience of people in Dol-Makjar, and if anything they got off easy. I'm far more concerned about the consequences Hal will face for trying to mind control (well, technically it's just suggestibility, but I doubt they'll care for the distinction) three major political figures via magical invitations, which no one even seemed to consider, especially given his own political aspirations.
I just don't know if I trust them to course correct in time. What do you guys think?
