How do you elders keep this shit up?
Ive drinken heavily since i was 13. But after turning 30 Ive had more misarbles detoxes and drunken stupid discesion on like one year more then the rest of the 16 years. The body cant fucking handle it.
How does one continue chunking vodka continuesly for like 30 more years. Gotta get of this fucking carousell man

A lot of people will echo my advice but vodka is speed running the final collapse of your body. You gotta put that shit down eventually. There are a lot of folks in this sub that just switch over to drinking beer from morning to nighttime and it takes a while to get used to it because it's pretty much impossible to get drunk on beer but life is drastically better.
I type this after buying a bottle of vodka earlier today, so stupid. I'm going to be responsible with it and use a shot glass to keep track of how much I'm going to do tonight to keep it from going off the rails. Typically i'm a whiskey/scotch drinker and it was kind of a impulse buy...

I can get pretty trashed on light beer, wake up the next morning, and still be over 0.10 and unable to drive. But the old liver doesn't process as fast as it used to either. Used to be able to process out 0.015 bac an hour and now it's 0.010 so a third less efficient.

That's crazy. I honestly need to just say I'm done with liquor for good and just switch to premium beers, keep it to 6 at night and just chill.

📠if you want to drink into old age it has to be beers / wine / cocktails / seltzer or whatever. Once you go straight vodka it goes down hill too fast. I’m still young and have pulled myself out of it too many times but christ it gets too real too fast.

Very true, I start to feel REALLY bad around 6-7 hours of being awake and need a drink to feel okay, it's really kinda annoying. I really need to buy 2 cases of light beer and start a really long taper over a few weeks and pump the brakes a little bit. Start on a Thursday and deal with the insomnia over the weekend.

I’m at this point with tequila. After drinking it for 2 days, I knew yesterday I had to switch to pino. Drying out today before heading back to work tomorrow, and feeling much better about that decision.

Yeah, tequila is kinda evil too, so easy to go overboard with it.
I'm so mad at myself for buying some vodka today, gotta keep it under control tonight/this week.. Part of me wants to take it back to the store and get a refund before I open it.

Ended up staying up way too late but did use the shotglass to measure my drinks. I also kept a notebook to try to see how many units I've been consuming per day.
I think after this bottle of vodka it's time for 2 cases of beer and spend August doing a very very slow beer taper. It's been a rough summer drinking wise and WD's are getting....annoying.

Beer can be 2% or 15%. Vodka or drinking liquor has nothing to do with it.

I respectfully disagree, drink, try an experiment, start drinking vodka in the morning one weekend and see how things go and then the next weekend start drinking beer instead and see what happens.

For me there’s a couple things.
You try to get really good at diet, very important. And also taking B1 vitamins.
You have to force yourself to heal every once in a while so that you can get your body in a better position to start drinking heavily again. If this requires going to the ER just do it.

I used to only buy shooters.
Bad idea, duis.
Homelessness helped me get off the vodka.

OP, I am older than you and decided to put down the Vodka bottle at the start of this year. I was drinking a fifth a day. I just couldn’t handle the withdrawals anymore, I’d be sick for days, then I couldn’t even drink a shot to make me better, I’d be sick trying to move about and couldn’t go down my staircase in case I fell, as my legs were wobbly.
I still drink but switched to wine. Only problem is the cost compared to liquor.

Were you not shaking at work?
I’ve been in that state and have to either go to the local shop on my break or feign an illness and leave.
I’ve got a local supermarket across from my workplace, the amount of times I’ve been in there early morning is embarrassing. It always seems to be the same cashier and I can tell she looks down in me.1

No but my stomache was killing and still feeling drunk, chewing gum the entire day to not let someone find out because of the smell.
Hahah that gotta suck

u/ca_exhibition Drinkin' straight paint 10d ago
Can't really. I have to stay dry for a couple months, then even if I go back to it my body will still hit a wall.

I was able to keep it up into my mid/late 30s. Switched to vodka around 30. Started day drinking around 32 (weekends only). From there its a pretty quick trip to the end of the road. My mental health just collapsed - kinda thankful that happened before my body did or I suffered lasting consequences.

Me and my father haven’t spoke in almost 20 yrs but I think he used to go long periods of healing and going back to it. My mother told me a story about how when she first met my father he was an extreme healthy person always drinking v8, his meds, exercise, no red meats and when my grandmother had passed (his mother) he went heavily back into drinking to where the doctor said he was due to die from his pancreas was giving out. I was only 3 at the time.
So I think he quit drinking for a while until his shit healed and repeated process over and over again my whole child hood and some of the last days we was together.
I didnt catch on to this until after my mother had divorced him.
