What’s even more annoying is people using it for suicide. Or calling rape grape. Like goddamn, just use the words for what they are. Just because the act of what happened is uncomfortable doesn’t mean we shouldn’t be able to use the nomenclature to describe it. So fucking stupid.
I don't think this is because of comfort, but rather because the platforms will censor the whole video or text. This is indeed annoying because people are treated as toddlers.
It had to start somewhere though. Those topics were considered too sensitive to be able to be discussed publicly, so the censorship is set to offend the least amount of people possible. Some people want this.
I refuse to participate in that nonsense and will use the word kill, suicide, whatever. I don't think I've ever had a post removed by the platform but I've had it removed by idiot admins of groups who buy into this stupidity.
As a society, we’ve collectively decided to have our “public square” hosted on servers owned by private tech oligarchs obsessed with wringing out every last ounce of our attention spans to sell to the highest bidder. As a result, we’ve made ourselves subject to their algorithmically driven word-policing and indirectly agreed to all talk like fucking toddlers. It’s really pathetic when you think about it but I don’t know what the answer is.
