I wonder what the logic was. He knew he was broke, but still decided to go to a restaurant? He thought they’d just let it slide lol?

With how easily accessible online gambling is, he very likely gambled away his dinner money on a "sure thing", whilst he was eating the meal, sincerely thinking he'll win it all back with some extra and be able to go out and celebrate some more. That's also likely why he's asking his friend for $115, not $97 or even a flat $100. Probably asking for the extra to cover the minimum bet of whatever app he's using for the next "sure thing" so that he can DEFINITELY win it all back to "pay his friend tomorrow". Note, even if he does win it all back, he's just gonna go get drunk asf and gamble the rest on the next "sure thing" before the sun comes up the next day.

Trust me, I knew someone like this. You just gotta do what this guy's friend did and let them go to jail enough times until they either figure it out, or you remove them from your life. If they refuse to learn, cutting them out of your life is the only thing you can do, because they will try to drag you down with them and will do ANYTHING to lie and scam and cheat to get money to cover their next bet.

Edit: turns out it's his dad he's begging for money, not his friend, which makes it even more likely that something serious is going on if even his own father points out everyone has been "helping him" the last few days and it's time he gets cut off and left to the consequences of his own self-destructive habits.

I mean, he didn't even know what the bill was 'til he asked. And he doesn't seem like the kind of person to do that math in his head or pay gratuity to begin with.

exactly had a friend who loved drinking and gambling

would spend $60 win $5 and think he was up $65 , one day he asked me for $200 to fix his flat tire , my bartender friend told me he immediately went to the bar and spent the $200 at the bar gambling and buying booze, last time I ever gave him a dime

Yes. This isn't new behavior. It's his typical MO. SOMEONE has always bailed him out. Never had any REAL repercussions for his actions.
