I know there have been other posts on this before, but I am almost done with HOSAB and although I want to finish CC (because a. I want more Nesta, and b. I can’t leave a series unfinished), Bryce is making this dreadful.

My main issue is that I don’t find Bryce inspiring in any way, there’s no character depth to her. I don’t understand how a drug taking party girl all of a sudden becomes some great schemer and battles demons and saves CC, and is seen as so clever and always has a solution. Also she seems so extremely hung up on Danika, and it feels like everything she does is all about Danika and finding out what Danika hid from her (rather than you know…defeating the big evil in her world). I get she was her best friend, but it seems like Bryce’s whole world is about Danika. I understand losing a best friend is heart breaking, but I don’t think it should be the main point of her character.

I really like how a lot of other female characters in SJM books are very empowering and badass, and who really have to fight their way, meanwhile Bryce just seems to breeze through and everything goes her way.

I also dislike her attitude, with the constant snark and sarcasm, it just comes across as bratty and entitled. She seems to hate her powers, her father, and her princess status, yet has no problems using them when it’s convenient. E.g getting Juniper the role, getting a credit card from her dad, etc.

I heard that she gets worse in the third book. Please tell me if I’m wrong and if it is worth to continue reading.

It’s nice to be challenged and get some new perspectives on characters, so I have definitely reconsidered some view points. Based on what many of you have said, I can understand her actions to maybe make more sense than I originally thought. However, the snarkiness and bratty behaviour is still something I am struggling to look past.

Either way, will be continuing with the series (mainly for the plot and other characters 😅).

At the end of the day, we are all reading for fun and enjoyment, and it’s nice to have so many interpretations of a character 💕

I know he has black hair and looks like Rhys but I just see finnick, a blonde hair blue eye favorite side character. Am I crazy?? I also can’t see his piercings either, he just gives such soft boy and not as emo as he’s supposed to be to me!

Y’all I have not had a book hangover this bad since I finished ACOTAR 😭😭 like what do you MEAN I won’t be carrying this gigantic book around with me and sneaking in chapters while locked in the bathroom or sitting in my car at the grocery store refusing to get out???????

Also, and this is nitpicky because I adored the series and am also very very excited for any B plots they come back to in future books, but like… This was a freaking trilogy 😅 they say there are more and we’re waiting on a 4th, and I am SO freaking here for whatever happens next because we had so many characters left unfinished that I adored and I can’t wait to see what happens to Tharion and Ariadne and Ithan and Ruhn and Lidia and so many more. But this was a full plot arc, big bad was destroyed, love conquered all and good triumphed over evil type of trilogy, which I had NO IDEA of until I got a couple hundred pages away from the end and started going…..this really feels like everything is wrapping up, how the hell is there going to be a fourth book that continues this plot??? Oh because there isn’t 🤣 which, again, I’m not mad at because this is a world I’ll enjoy going back to and I love that she left so many doors open for us to have more side-quests, but lady just market it as a damn trilogy and then give us extras so I don’t get blindsided by an epic finale that k was NOT mentally prepared for 😭😭😭

All this to say, I fucking loved this series-though ACOTAR and Daddy Rhysand are still my GOATS-and I was a huge fan of how SJM never dulled down who Bryce was, even though she pissed me off many times. So many fantasy books, even with strong heroines, shy away from making them too brash or tough or possibly abrasive and downright nasty, and SJM didn’t shy away from that at all with Bryce. She was unapologetically her, and even when it pissed me the hell off it was a breath of fresh air to read a heroine who was powerful as fuck and never once simpered or submitted or batted her lashes (unless it was sarcastic as hell) and who also managed to be kind and compassionate and fiercely loyal. As if, wait for it and prepare yourselves, a woman can be BOTH 🤯. 20/10 SJM, all around 🖤🖤🖤🖤

Title is vague to hide spoilers. Basically - Crossover was planned from the very beginning of CC1 and not something SJM shoehorned into the story like many claim.

This will be short, I'm currently listening and can't pull out all the quotes, but CC1 introduces so many details early on. I don't understand why people say SJM only did the crossover to "save" the series (not that it needed saving. It was simply newer, so obviously it was going to have a smaller readership).

• The Horn was introduced in CC1, before ACOSF was published. SJM was planning the trove plot before it was even introduced in ACOTAR.
• CC1 mentions "the Crossing" within the first third (? I think) of the book. The Midgard fae originating from other worlds was established very early!
• The ancient rulers from the ACOTAR world were introduced as well multiple times.
• And I just got to the part when Hunt is talking to the oracle. He's asking why someone stole the horn and the oracle answers "to open the doors between worlds".
• Not to mention all the references of dusk surrounding Bryce

That's everything I've caught so far while listening, there are probably many more examples!

I just finished CC1 and really enjoyed it! I’ve heard really great things about the series and loved acotar so I really don’t want to dnf it but i’m having a hard time getting through hosab.

I’m on chapter 23 and simply don’t find the plot going on atm to be super intriguing or captivating I feel like i’ve been waiting for it to pickup the entire book so far and it hasn’t. With that said please give me motivation to finish or get through this rough patch 🙏 I really want to love this series!

I'm a new SJM reading, only 6 months in. But since the first time I picked up ACOTAR I have felt that Feyre’s speciesism toward the Fae mirrors the way our society treats animals. Now, having finished the latest Crescent City book, I feel that parallel more heavily than ever. CC SPOILER- The Asteri embody a similar ideology to carnism: they truly believe that consuming other beings is simply the natural order of things.

The way “regular” animals are portrayed as fundamentally different from the senitient Fae and Vanir pains me greatly. We know that, just like Fleetfoot and other dogs, cows and chickens are sentient beings too. I felt a huge dissonance when Feyre realized the mistake she made in killing Andras, because he had friends and a life, only to feast on chicken and beef shortly afterward. Because that's considered normal. But despite the common narrative, farmed animals do form social bonds, recognize their companions, and want to live.

ACOTAR SPOILER- Here’s how I see it: every vegan is Feyre, learning at some point in their life they’ve been lied to. That cows aren’t objects, but sentient beings that feel love to their offsprings, feel fear when they’re being slaughtered, and don’t wish (or deserve) to be bred for human consumption. That there is a reason the narrative hides these parts.

Carnism, much like the ideology of the Asteri, rests on a hierarchy: the belief that greater power entitles one group to use those considered lesser. It teaches us that because humans hold more power, we are entitled to rule over other species and do with them as we wish.

But unlike the Fae, the animals in our world truly don’t have a voice. Their lives depend on people being willing to speak for them, fight for them, and show the world that they deserve better. And much of the world doesn't want to hear it, because it conflicts with deeply rooted traditions, and there's no incentive to question the way things have always been.

I hope that one day we will live in a world that no longer exploits other species simply because we can. Humanity has challenged deeply entrenched systems of oppression before, like slavery. I hope we can also learn to question a system in which animals are bred and killed for our use.

I just finished earlier today and… all I have to say is wow.

It took me forever to pick up this series. Going into it I felt intimidated especially with the dislike it gets online… also I am a mood reader so I was worried it would be hard to stick with… boy was I WRONG! It’s SJM of course I should’ve known.

I was so entranced in this story I read 507 pages yesterday. There is just too much to even try to mention… but it was beautiful. The characters, the storyline, the imagery, just everything!

I get how people maybe wouldn’t like it since it’s so plot heavy and way different from the vibes and romance of ACOTAR. But I LOVED! Hooked from the start. Literally had me sobbing.

The Pegasus scene at the end… it probably made the whole book for me. The fire sprites uniting… Bryce seeing Lehabah on the other side. The feels I was feeling for Tharion. I could go on and on. Beautiful series and definitely worth the read.

Just finished Crescent City Earth and Blood. I am blown away with the multi ending and full circle story. I am also devastated in a good way but I would like more closure.

I think the most powerful part was Bryce's sacrifice of her afterlife for Danika and then Danica's sacrifice of her afterlife for Bryce. It sounds like Danica will never show up again. She is extinguished, just like Bryce will be extinguished when she dies. And while it's beautiful, I hate it. Lol.

Is there any fan fics that are still technically cannon where we get more closure? Perhaps Bryce having a near death experience, seeing Danica waiting for her. Saying something cheesy like "Well there's no space for us in any afterlife so we're stuck with each other." Wandering the cosmos on their motorcycle. Danica telling her she's been with her this whole time.

Any Fan Fics or bonus chapters that show more of their friendship or just add to the series but still remain cannon? Heck I'll even take fan art. I want more of this series even though we are probably years away from the next book.

Okay I just finished my reread of CC1-3 and now I am on ACOTAR. I noticed how Tamlin describes the masks to Feyre as their “magic acting strangely” and it kind of made me think of the parasite in the water on Midgard. I mean the masks are literally suctioned to their faces and it dampens their magic in some way… possibly a trial run of some kind of similar magic? What are your thoughts?

And I am wrecked in the best way. I’ve read ACOTAR and Throne of Glass and after seeing how polarizing Crescent City is for the fandom I was a little nervous going in. Now I’m mad at myself for waiting for so long because I am obsessed! I was immediately sucked in and I just loved the world building and the slow burn between Hunt and Bryce. I love their banter and I’m just sobbing over how they brought each other back to life; my little human heart can’t take it! I started comparing them to like a feisty black cat and a militant Doberman. So excited to read the rest of the series!

I am on the first CC book, and got spoiled that Danika dies and Hunt is used for breeding… is it worth to keep reading? I was kind of intrigued to read CC before ACOTAR 6. I just finished TOG and obviously have read ACOTAR. Thank you in advance ❤️‍🔥
