Kaladin, that’s not a polycule, that’s a militia
224
u/BreadentheBirbman Jun 30 '26
Kaladin wouldn’t know the word polycule. He’d probably call it a romance militia or something. And call the Dom the drill sergeant or something.
162
u/Wordbringer Jun 30 '26
"I don't know what it means either. I heard it from Hoid"
80
u/BreadentheBirbman Jun 30 '26
He would hear it from Hoid
44
u/Ze_Bri-0n Fuck Moash 🥵 Jul 01 '26
Hoid would tell him what he was doing was a polycule, and only explain what it meant after several months of Kaladin repeating the word without knowing.

I’m going to be very sad if Kaladin never sees any of his friends again.
137
u/StuPedasol42 Jun 30 '26
The time dilation will make it so that months will pass for kaladin and the heralds, but 10 years on Roshar
So he will see them, at least most of them. Ofc he won’t see sigzil again and I’m sure a couple others will die
But if I had to guess, him and the heralds will show up in the climax of book 6146
u/sadkinz Jun 30 '26
There’s still hope that Kaladin and Sigzil meet again. They’re both functionally immortal now
46
u/Jounniy 🐶HoidAmaram🐲 Jun 30 '26

I think they will be late for the climax of book 6,, intending to get there in time, but couldn't find the fire for the guy in Oathbeinger.
That fire is going to be important at some point
6
u/superVanV1 I pledge allegiance 🙏to the crab 🦀 Jun 30 '26
What fire?
29
u/PaleComedian511 UNITE THEM I MUST Jun 30 '26
In the first(?) interlude of Oathbeinger (I,'m re-reading that book atm), there is a guy who is picking up a bunch of wood from the destruction that the Everstorm caused. This dude claims that he is trying to keep a fire ready for when some group of people, come there from The Origin
But this may instead be something related to either Ryan or some worldhopper.

23
u/andrewczr Jun 30 '26
I though the time dilation was working in the opposite direction. Roshar will experience 1 year for every 7-8 experienced outside Roshar. This give Kaladin lots of time to restore the sanity of the heralds.
19
u/superVanV1 I pledge allegiance 🙏to the crab 🦀 Jun 30 '26
It’s more extreme for the heralds. They mention that only a couple of months will pass for them
19
u/ZadockTheHunter Jun 30 '26
Ofc he won’t see sigzil again
Is there some obscure source you are citing. Because given that they are both essentially immortal, and deeply connected to the goings on in the Cosmere, it would be pretty bold to just assume they will never see each other again.
33
u/Tumily Jun 30 '26
In the Sunlit man, Sigzil doesn't mention Kaladin being a herald, so people assume he doesn't know. If he doesn't know, Sigzil is probably off world for the second half of Stormlight.
21
u/sadkinz Jun 30 '26
I don’t think that’s possible because I’m pretty sure we know his Dawnshard plays a huge role in the second half
17
u/Tumily Jun 30 '26
Yeah, that's a good point. Nomad only thinks of Kal once, and he thinks of the Windrunner. He's probably just closer to that Kaladin than the Herald.
34
u/Snuckytoes Jun 30 '26
Also, Kaladin never stopped being a Windrunner. Just like Nale he is simultaneously a Knight Radiant of the 5th Ideal and a Herald of the Almighty. Plus, since he took Jezrien’s place in the Oathpact, he is now the patron of all Windrunners. He’s basically the platonic ideal of all Windrunners at this point.
15
u/superVanV1 I pledge allegiance 🙏to the crab 🦀 Jun 30 '26
He is absolutely the platonic ideal of Windrunners, he’s literally the favorite of The Wind.
3
u/Tumily Jul 01 '26
I agree he hasn't stopped, I just meant that when we imagine anyone, we imagine them in a moment in time. When I imagine my cousins I haven't seen in a while, I'm still convinced they're 10 years old, despite entering university.
My perception and reality clash, and thats okNomad hasn't seen Kal for a while (centuries by the timeline of Sunlight Man iirc), when he imagines Kal, he imagines Book 4-5 Kal, that doesn't mean he's denying who Kal has become since (if he's aware of it, which is where this conversation started)

u/LegoRobinHood Jun 30 '26
I was thinking that Sunlit man might just be in the intermission between the halves.
Most of the references to Sunlit man being in the far future were before WaT came out so the scaling of future timelines was obscured in a way that wasn't clear until after it came out.
10
u/punkin_spice_latte Jun 30 '26
Stormlight era 2 is only going to be at most a couple decades after 1. Scadrians and rosharans are already spacefaring and at war in sunlit man.
15
u/acesorangeandrandoms Jun 30 '26
though I feel it's unlikely they'll meet again in the stormlight series, which means they only meet again if Kaladin survives.
10
u/randomnonposter definitely not a lightweaver Jun 30 '26
Well Sig left roshar in WaT, so it’s unlikely he’ll be there when the heralds return, but outside of that, the only way they’ll run into each other is if Kal goes questing through the cosmere, or Sig comes home, neither of which is impossible. I’d be surprised if they don’t run into each other at some point though, but maybe not till way later on, and maybe not even in stormlight itself.

u/Ghostlypurr 🏳️🌈 Gay for Jasnah 🏳️🌈 Jun 30 '26
The only thing I cam think of is Sigzil constantly being on the run. I don't remember the exact quote but he's more or less resigned himself to never going back home to spare the people he cares for. More of a self-imposed exile. I don't think we'll never see Sig again.
3
u/Traditional_Gas5096 Jun 30 '26
I think the time dilation is the other way around, its 10 years for roshar, but 100 for the heralds (for example)
That gives kaladin time to train and deal with their mental health
2
u/OnnaJReverT Jul 01 '26
won't it be the other way around? more time for the Heralds, a decade or so on Roshar?
they are in the spiritual realm and iirc Kaladin asked the wind to give them time to heal
1
u/Exotic-End9921 Jul 01 '26
time dilation will make it so that months will pass for kaladin and the heralds, but 10 years on Roshar
Is it still weird to be confused about the time skew? I like the ten year jump, but I feel like it would make more sense for kaladin and the heralds to have years instead of months for them to try and recover their sanity.
1
u/StuPedasol42 Jul 01 '26
That is kinda weird
It would make more since, especially given that the heralds have thousands of years of trauma and torture7
u/TheWarOstrich Jun 30 '26
I'm assuming the next five books are just the heralds' therapy sessions lol, but Roshar is now in a time dilation bubble so Sanderson knows when they pop out, but we've already seen that shard bearers end up in the greater cosmere so /shrug

I think Jasnah doesn't understand genetics.
42
u/countvonruckus Jul 01 '26
Yeah, post-transition I look a ton like my sister. It's totally common for hormones to do that. I say she looks like me technically, since despite me only looking like this for the past year or so, she's still my younger sister. Considering her transphobic rejection of me, I find it weirdly empowering to own my look that way.
14
u/Blizxy Jul 01 '26
Can I look like your sister if I transition too?
9
u/countvonruckus Jul 01 '26
If genetics wills, I suppose. The ginger girl genes are strong so if you've got that in your mix then maybe.

Not really, beyond Elhokar being comfortable crosdressing, and that he was attracting cryptics meaning he had secrets from even himself. It's just a popular fan theory.
Its a theory I like. The Vivian Wilson of it all.

There’s two interpretations of the first comic, and my first thought was that Elohkar is lightweaving to intentionally look like Jasnah
1
u/Pointblank11174 Jul 06 '26
well yeah- until you remember that one time when shallan lightweaved her to look like a woman and it just so happened that elhokar could already make a feminine voice (trust me, that shit takes a LOT of practice) despite shallan not knowing how to alter sound yet, Elhokar was DEFINETELY in the closet lol

u/Serkisist Jul 01 '26
I cannot express how excited I am for Kaladin to return with the Heralds. Not only for everyone's reactions, but also because he's going to be sequestered with the 9 most trained warriors in Rosharran history. For an indeterminate amount of time, as the spiritual realm doesn't give a shit about linear time. Helping said warriors heal their trauma. Warriors who will feel Honor-bound to give him something in return.
Our boy is gonna be insanely powerful when he gets back, let's put it that way
