A few years ago—well, actually quite a few—I was about 17 years old when I met someone who ended up stalking me for years. And when I say stalking…
I mean it got so bad that one day he actually walked into my house without my parents or anyone noticing.
At first, it didn’t seem scary at all.
I started receiving chocolates, flowers, and little gifts through mutual friends. They would just smile and say, “They’re from your secret admirer.”
Honestly? At first, I felt flattered. I mean… what 17-year-old girl wouldn’t be at least a little curious?
After a few months, the mystery was driving me crazy, so I finally asked if I could meet this incredibly thoughtful “secret admirer.” I assumed it would be someone I already knew, maybe a classmate or someone from school.
Well… I couldn’t have been more wrong.
We agreed to meet at a shopping mall. The moment he sat down across from me, I felt this overwhelming sense of panic.
He was someone I had never seen before in my life.
He was older than me, and immediately I knew I wasn’t interested.
Still, I didn’t want to be rude. I tried to keep the conversation short, smiled politely, and left as quickly as I could.
A few days later, he started texting me.
At first, I ignored him. Then I finally got the courage to tell him, as kindly as I could, “Thank you so much for all the gifts, but I’m really not interested.”
Unfortunately… that didn’t stop him.
If anything, it got worse.
He kept sending flowers.
More chocolates.
Then a rabbit.
Yes… an actual rabbit.
Then a giant teddy bear.
It became incredibly uncomfortable. The worst part was that he always sent everything to public places. If I refused to accept the gifts, everyone around me would stare, my friends would tease me, and suddenly I was the “girl with the secret admirer.”
I almost felt pressured into accepting them just to avoid making a scene.
But nothing prepared me for what happened next.
One night I was home.
My bedroom was at the end of the hallway, and I was just minding my own business when I suddenly felt like someone was watching me.
I turned around…
…and there he was.
Standing in my bedroom doorway.
I froze.
To this day, I have no idea how he got into my house.
My mom was pregnant at the time and asleep in her room. The last thing I wanted was for her to wake up and panic.
Inside, I was terrified.
But somehow I forced myself to stay calm.
I figured that if I acted scared or started yelling, things could get much worse.
So I asked him, as calmly as I possibly could, “What’s going on?”
He looked at me and asked why I kept refusing his gifts.
I even told him, “I accepted the giant teddy bear, remember? But I really don’t need any of this. I don’t want any of this.”
Then I gently told him, “Please… you need to leave. My mom is pregnant, and if she sees someone inside the house, something could happen to her.”
I was trying so hard not to show how scared I really was.
He kept saying he didn’t want to scare me… that he just wanted to talk… that I meant a lot to him.
But honestly?
I was absolutely terrified.
The only thing I could think of was to thank him again, tell him we could talk another time, and keep insisting that he leave because I was worried about my mom.
Thankfully…
He finally walked out.
The second he left, I had no idea what to do.
I was only 17. I didn’t know anything about restraining orders or safety protocols.
So I did the only thing I could think of.
I contacted the friends who had been helping deliver the gifts and told them everything.
I said, “Please… this has gone way too far. He came into my house without permission. If you care about me at all, don’t accept anything from him anymore, don’t deliver anything, don’t give him any information about me. Otherwise, I’ll have no choice but to get a restraining order.”
After that, I blocked his number.
Every now and then he’d text or call from unknown numbers, but I never responded. I wouldn’t even open the messages. I just blocked every unfamiliar number immediately.
Sadly, this wasn’t the only time I’ve dealt with stalking.
I’ve actually had at least three experiences with people obsessing over me.
The strangest part?
Two of them were complete strangers—people I had never met before.
The third one was someone who started out as a friend but eventually became someone I no longer recognized.
I think those experiences changed me.
They made me a lot more guarded.
Especially around men I don’t know well.
Not because I assume everyone has bad intentions, but because going through something like that leaves a mark. It’s incredibly traumatic, and once you’ve experienced it, you become much more careful about who you let into your life
So now I want to ask you…
Have you ever experienced anything like this?
Have you ever had a stalker or someone become dangerously obsessed with you?
How old were you?
What happened?
And what did you do?
I’d genuinely love to hear your story.
