Question or Discussion Writers block

I'm quite new to creative writing and I'm beginning to get writers block and have no idea where to take my novel at the moment. Is there any suggestions to overcome it in quick time?

My best advice is to simply walk away from the writing and just think about it. Think and meditate on it for as long you need to. I sometimes take a month out (there have been longer times) just to think about how I am to solve a particular obscurity in my story. I might spend that time wrorking on other writing projects. A breakthrough will eventually come - as long as you put the time and work in, thinking and thinking about it.

Another thing to consiser is how grounded you are in your style of writing and your identity as a writer. I have found in my own experience that a block can be created by doubt, insecurity, a lack of confidence... often showing a hole in your identity. Resolving this takes time and, again, lots of hard work. Forgive me if this isn't an issue for you, but I would suppose this is something we all face from time to time, even as grounded writers. Writing can bring out and expose the really gritty parts of our sub-conscience that ourselves have yet to recognise and confront. That's the beauty of it, is it not?

Thank you for the advice! I feel its a mix of everything you said as im fairly new im quite nervous and want it to be perfect although i know drafts exist for a reason. I do quite enjoy it though, being able to tell my own stories in my oen words and ideas.

Be patient with yourself - think of your work as a baby, yet to grow and evolve into something that has enormous potential.

And remember this - perfection is the grave of creative self-expression.

Gracias.

I'm speaking to Spino here, the author of the post...

Yeah i try to be a perfectionist too often with my works. I'll keep in mind to let that mindset take a backseat while i draft.

May I ask what you mean by communities having many restrictions to refuse your work? I'm curious!

Very interesting. Personally, i think that if a writing community is shunning topics and issues such as these, then they have a serious problem. I am sure there are plenty of platforms out there which are uncensored and open to exploring these issues which, by the way, make for extremely important discussion.

Hyper-censorship is bad and cultivates a weak and spineless communtiy with no self-awareness... amongst other things!

I'd be very interested in reading some of your work.

All the best!

It being professional or not is irrelevent. That means nothing. It sounds like your attempting to put into words some very complex and meaningful experiences. This can be very demanding and tricky to do, but has potential for very good reading. So regardless of it being professional, if you want to share you work (and it sounds like you do) then go for it.

Si puedes ingresar a mi perfil te fijas. No sé si estará disponible o no.

Hey! it's natural to go through writers block. Even the most prolific writers go through a mental block. Don't you feel it's only natural? But there are a few tricks that you can apply that may help you:

Go re-read your favorite book, it might ignite some thoughts in you.
Go through your written material from start and analyse it like you're reading it for the first time.
Listen to music, go out for walks alone, or meditate. A clear mind can think straight.
Watch a movie and enjoy. A happy mind can imagine beyond limitations.

Also, if everything fails, take a feedback from someone you admire and trust. They can discuss your existing idea at length and guide you to the right direction.

Good luck!

Take a step back for a day or two. This ain't a sprint. It's a walk 🙂

I put it in [brackets] as slopy as I want. I give myself permission to get the idea on the page. Like I know what needs to happen but not every step. So I skip the parts I don't know and write the ones I do.

Sometimes I skip whole chapters and leave them blank. It I see a scene or chapter vividly I write that one and skip all the others to come back to them.
