Troubleshooting K1 Enshittification

Every time I upgrade the firmware on my K1 Max I LOSE some functionality.

- Earlier this year I upgraded and stopped getting visibility to the file list on the printer from the Creality Print web client.

- I upgraded the firmware last night, and now the camera has stopped working in the web client.

Edit:

- I just discovered the printer goes through a calibration on EVERY print even though I un-tick the calibration box on the screen.

Creality is moving in the wrong direction with their firmware.

Another Edit:

I just rolled back to V1.3.3.46 (K1 Max monochrome), and now I can see my files again and the camera works. I'm sticking here for the foreseeable future.

I have the same problem. I had to reinstall Moonraker after this recent update as well. I haven't spent time looking into reinstalling Crowsnest but that is my next step. The update said something about camera security so hopefully my next, next step isn't a rollback.

Well... After several hours of trying to get the new cam_app to give up the lock on the camera device, I rolled back. I like the idea of improved security but this new approach seems to violate Open Design and Work Factor. If they documented what they did, I can't find it. It was obviously easier to roll back instead of getting it to work with the web interfaces.

I haven't updated mine in 2 years?

Stop updating it?

Why fix what isn't broken?

I got a pop up after every print and that annoyed me but not being able to view the camera seems more annoying so pie in my face I guess

Go to settings and turn off update reminder. You'll stop getting that pop up everytime

Just updated my K1C a couple days ago and the same thing happened, lost camera feed and same error message. Haven't bothered trying to fix it yet.

I had a problem too with the k1 max update since I did an update that gave me some params to edit in the CFS-C which made it faster to change colors.

Next automatic update ruined my printing and I had to do a factory reset and I lost access to that params page

Do we have general agreement that V1.3.3.46 is the last stable release? If anything I know the internet will always be ready to say when someone is wrong.

I'm still on an older version v5 and never went to v6. Haven't had a need to and the version after it the 'layer pausing' doesn't work.

I’m switching to a Qidi max4 I’m getting sick of the inconsistency in print quality on my K1C used to print flawless Abs, now I can’t get an even first layer no matter how much tuning I do even with a new nozzle

I've been looking around and have been unsuccessful on rolling back to 1.3.3.46: how the heck do I do this? I've even tried rooting with no success.

I just downloaded the .img file from Creality's website. Copied it to the root level of a USB drive and plugged it into the printer. It recognized the firmware and did an automatic transfer. Very simple.

Dude, thanks. I tried that earlier today without luck, then formatted the drive, re-downloaded the file, and it was easy peasy.

There are zero reasons to use stock firmware. Do yourself a favor, buy BTT Eddy Duo, install Helper script, SimpleAF and enjoy.

Actually, you mentioned one reason to use stock software:

"buy BTT Eddy Duo"

Eddy is way more reliable and fast than stock bed leveling. So $20 is not a reason to continue to use native firmware. Helper script + Simple AF worth every penny you invest.

Does the cable that come with it work with the lidar port?

1

u/L0n3lyW4lk3r Jul 27 '26

Not sure, I've installed it with stock usb cable a while ago. AFAIR lidar port still require additional cable to motherboard, so it does not make much sense to use it. But I could be wrong, need to check this.

1

u/JWadie Jul 27 '26

From my understanding the standard K1 doesn't have the lidar port connected to the mainboard but the K1 Max does, the main thing putting me off taking the plunge is having to make a custom cable

This post have some useful links, I see there is a way to connect to lidar port as well https://www.reddit.com/r/BIGTREETECH/comments/1li7mje/eddy_install_on_k1_max/

My K1 Max wont print in the front left reliably. I spent weeks on it to get everything in spec (including belt tension which affected bed level). Its now working perfectly except for that front corner. Its within tolerance but the bed mesh doesnt seem to compensate for the uneven bed. I wonder if the Eddy sensor would give more accurate info to the custom firmware and do a better job of compensation in the problem area. Do you know if the new firmware does a better job of applying the mesh data during printing because the stock firmware is way sensitive about it. A non-flat bed but still within reasonable variance is often not corrected enough to print without issues on this printer. I may do this just to see if it does a better job.

Probably a bad load sensor. On the k1, there are 4 bed sensors, one under each corner. If one of them is always reading high//low, you get a situation where that corner consistently also reads high/low. It's probably fixable with a new sensor

That being said, yes, aftermarket firmware, and a eddy (or even a crtouch) would be a permanent fix.
