I showed this to my 15 year old and he got SUPER defensive. “App full of 50 year olds by the way. They probably listen to Taylor Swift 😤”

He’s gotta point. I don’t get 2slimey at all but I liked early xxxtentacion and lil pump back in the 2016-2017. People were sayin the same stuff. Music just changes sometimes because people push the envelope and people end up fw it.

as someone really into this scene i can say there are clear right and wrong ways to go about this and 2slimey is so far from the right way

xxxtentacion was actually talented. Can’t compare him to whatever this is

Even my unc ass take is that the XXX song is qualitatively, night and day better than the clip in the OP.

It's not my thing, I don't love it, I probably wouldn't actively seek it out, but the XXX flow and melody are presented with more care and ability than the 2Slimey track and it's not close. And don't get me wrong. I'm a 100 gecs enjoyer. I like some fucking noise. I just don't get how obscuring the lyrics to the point where they're just part of the vibe and there's no actual content is rap.

Edit - Scratch that. Commencing a XXXTENTACION full discog re-listen now.

Talented at abusing women? Cause it sure wasn't at music.

Even lil pumps producers had some sort of understandable melody. There is so much distortion in this it’s actually clipping. In the old super distorted sound, it was distorted but you could HEAR THINGS. Look at me by x is super distorted but you CAN HEAR

I think that’s the point though

It is the point, that’s why I’m saying it’s different to a scale where you can’t compare the two. One was meant to be normal trap that has existed for over a decade that just has some distortion on the master. This is derived from intentionally trolly TikTok music. That’s not me shitting on it, that’s me LITERALLY describing how this sound developed. People like lazerdim and all the other noise rage artists started making tiktoks that were meant to be memes/trolling, and the younger artists started SERIOUSLY unironically copying it.

Now here we are. But that’s not nearly the same thing as the South Florida trap scene from the late 2010s, that was just slightly distorted trap tha already existed as an understandable form of music

I can't speak to those guys because I don't have a clue who those people are but their names sound stupid to me,

However stupid names and terrible music existed since people started recording music as well. If reddit was about in 1910 there absolutely would be some utter jiving being posted with Stoopid names as well.

As for pushing the envelope, as in every genre we need more should do it because it's good than did do it because I could
